View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm heading to Halifax, Nova Scotia for a week and will be bringing my Hero with me. I'll be calling Sprint customer support to see what options are available for voice and data, but I trust the advice of folks in this forum.
Is there any international voice and data plan that i can sign up for so that I don't end up paying sky-high roaming rates? I really don't want to have to keep my phone in airplane mode the whole week. Any advice from travelers to the "Great White North" would really be appreciated, eh?
I hate to start a new thread but I searched the forum for an answer with no success. I'M a SWAC customer and my fiance is my sponsor. She is concerned that if I root my Evo and get free Wifi tethering she will possibly get fired if Sprint notices the larger amount of data usage. Has anyone ever heard of a Sprint employee getting fired over rooting their phone? I want to root but not at the expense of getting my fiance fired.
View 4 Replies View RelatedOkay, so I've read things about rooting your EVO and one of my favorite aspects is the mobile hotspot/tethering thing you can get for free. I looked through the forums to see if there's an easier way of accomplishing this than rooting my whole phone. I've taken a few computer classes, so I have a decent knowledge base, but rooting just seems way over my head. Anyway, is it possible to do this without rooting the whole EVO?
View 6 Replies View RelatedRooting sounds like a great thing, but right now the only thing I want is WiFi tethering. I found the following instructions to get free WiFi tethering on my Incredible using verizons hotspot app that came with with Froyo upgrade a few months ago.. So far , it works fine (although I do have to reset the wireless adapter on whatever machine I want to tether to the phone, but that only take 2 seconds).
1. Dial ##778
2. Go into edit mode
3. The password is 000000
4. Once in go to M.IP Default Profile and edit DUN NAI from yournumber@dun.vzw3g.com to yournumber@vzw3g.com.
5. Then hit menu and press commit modifications.
6. It should then reboot.
7. FREE WiFi!!!

View 3 Replies View RelatedI searched other WiFi tethering posts and couldn't find the answer. If I get a droid 2 rooted, will the WiFi tethering be free? And will it be unlimited? Or does Verizon stop me or add charges for going over a certain number of gigs?

View 18 Replies View RelatedWhen I do wireless tethering, how much can I use without Sprint looking at us like we're doing something we aren't supposed to be? I don't plan on using it much but my husband is out of town and instead of paying for internet at the hotel, he's going to tether.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've been lurking for a while. I seem to be having trouble rooting my phone, all the one click programs for the CDMA Hero seem to be only for sprint builds, I got my phone through a smaller network (CREDO Mobile) and every root program I've tried seems to fail.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI tried wireless Tethering via Bluetooth with the PDANet App and it was an utter failure...i'd get a connection but it was up and down every 5-10 minutes...I can get a solid connection when tethering over USB with PDAnet...But that sucks as it only seems to work with the Charging cable that came with the Eris and not the HUNDREDS of other usb cables i have laying around....
So everyone said...'ROOT!' Its easy to wirelessly Tether when you 'Root!'
you can even use your phone as a hotspot...
So i thought 'Cool, i'd really like to be able to use it as a hotspot!'
I used this rooting system Universal 1 Click Eris App Apk - No PCs, No Scripts Needed, EASY
Noted i now have a new app called 'SuperUser Permission'
Downloaded 'Wireless Tether' from the App store...Set all Permissions on the phone
my Netbook detects NOTHING!
WTF am i doing wrong? It still works under pdanet...ALL i care about is using my phone as a Wireless/wifi hotspot, thats it!
Tethering - using PdaNet, works flawlessly. I have used it on forums and to watch videos. I am getting speeds between 1.5 and 2.0, not bad at all.
NESoid - works great, just make sure the background apps aren't running. Use the search and back buttons for A and B.
Apps - I switched from the iPhone 3Gs and found that any usable App from the App Store can be found in the Android Market.
I have not had any of the problems listed. All I have done is replace the messaging app with handcent's. I do a soft reset every now and again, but that is all the changes I have made.
Sprint and Android together = Awesome - I pay $60 a month with my discount and get unlimited to any mobile, 450 land line minutes, unlimited data and text message.
the title is basically the question.. does anyone know?
View 36 Replies View RelatedI just connected my rooted hero to a network and noticed it does work but gets hot fast and losses power faster than it can charge. I heard about usb (wired) tethering but haven't been able to find any tutorials on it. Can someone tell me if usb tethering would make a difference in terms of heat and battery life, and if so explain how it works or where i can get it from?

View 18 Replies View RelatedI recently flashed to the Fresh 2.1.2 rom, and i'm having trouble using the "Wireless Tether". I've uninstalled the one that came with the rom, and i've installed a fresh new copy from the Marketplace. But every time I've tried hitting the "tether" button, it says "Unable to start tethering, please try again!"
My superuser app isn't doing anything, this might be the problem. Whenever I open the superuser app, it's a complete blank screen.
That's the notification that came up when i was testing my wireless tethering just now. It came up in my notification bar in a red shield. i have tested it before without this warning. running fresh 1.1

View 2 Replies View RelatedIf I download the pdanet tethering app to my htc hero, will my ipod touch be able to work off my phone?
I know it's probably a stupid question but I am new to all of this.I know there is a free version and paid version of that app.....which should I get?
I am trying to go wireless and get rid of my DSL I have tried US Cellular tethered, abysmally slow. I tried Verizon, fast enough, very expensive for what you get. Now I am trying Sprint with a Hero and a Samsung Moment to use as phones etc, plus tether to our laptop and desk top to use as a modem. The Sprint store personnel tell me that it can be done, just not something that Sprint will tell me how to do. One of the young ladies tell me that there is an AP that I can download to do it. She uses her Hero as a modem all the time. What would I need to do?

View 48 Replies View RelatedWhen traveling near my home area I encounter areas with no Sprint service. The phone roams into Verizon network which is very strong in my area. Beginning last week when I attempt to make a call when roaming on Verizon I get a message stating Verizon can not verify this phone number unable to make call. I contacted Sprint about the problem. They suggested a few things i already did, update PRL and profile etc.... which did not help. They told me there was nothing they could do because they cant guarantee service on their phones when roaming. This baffles me because phone roamed fine on Verizon for 6 months all of a sudden it doesnt. Any ideas on how this can be fixed? About 30 percent of my home town has no Sprint coverage so I guess I am just SOL.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI am trying to use the wireless tether and it's not working at all.
I changed the ssid so that it's something that I can remember and be unique... I turn on wifi and mobile network... is that right?
Go back into the wireless tether program and push the tether button. It then takes me to the SU request screen and does nothing...
Normally when something needs root it pops up to allow access but it does nothing.. . Just wondering what am I doing wrong and why is this then turning off my wifi when I go back to check the widget it shows that the wifi is turned off?
My husband is in Iraq. I know you use your phone as a modem and use the internet off your phone on your computer. but he wants to reverse it. he wants to use his computer's internet on his phone.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have been a Blackberry and Windows Mobile user for the last eight years. I am 55% sure that I want to get the Hero but I am not 100% sold. I am also considering the Pre. I know this sounds crazy, but the absolute #1 thing I need is Internet sharing and tethering capability; even more so than a phone itself. I must be able to connect my phone to my laptop, either by usb or bluetooth, and have it working in less than 30 seconds each time. I currently run Ubuntu 9.4 and Windows Vista/XP. My windows mobile phone works with all of these, and quickly.I have searched and searched but have found nothing as to wether the Sprint version is capable of thethering.
