View 5 RepliesMy wife and I both got Milestones about a month ago. So far so good; we're trying to keep up with the kids on technology. Anyways, we discovered we're unable to receive texts with pics, but are able to send them to iphones users (who can receive them). I asked about it at the Telus store, thinking it was a setting or something, and she said "smart phones can't receive pics by text, you have to email them". Doesn't really sound right... The choice to send a pic by text is an option in the menus, and it seems from reading the forums here that at least in the US, it's possible with the droid. So is this a Telus issue? No big deal, we're just wondering what's up. Even our daughter with a non-smart phone can send/receive pics by text.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am in the process of getting the Milestone after many years on the WinMo 6.1 platform (HTC TyTN II), and am very excited at the prospect, but even though I have modded that phone a LOT, I am unfamiliar with the Android OS and Milestone, and was hoping someone could answer a few quick questions, as I'm getting conflicting info reading the posts here...
1. I wanted to get the unbranded / factory unlocked version of Milestone, but looking around I find all those versions are 3G 900/2100 bands, which would not work on NAM 3G 850/1900 networks. Is there a NAM version that can be purchased directly from Motorola?
2. The Telus version seems to be using a custom Telus bootloader. Does that mean this phone has any kind of custom Telus software, startup/shutdown logos showing Telus? I cannot stand customized carrier crap on smart phones and want nothing to do with them
3. I also read a post that says it's now possible to root the Telus Milestone. If I did, does that mean I can put another SBF that has stock Motorola software, and erase everything from Telus?
If I can wipe out all the Telus crap and turn one of theirs into a "clean" Milestone, that would be awesome!
Weird, first time I tried to go to www.rogers.com, and everytime I do browser takes me to http://bell.mobi/primary/. So I own a Telus unlocked Milestone running on Bell, my home page is google.com, I can got to telus site but almost every link I find that is on Rogers, it takes me to that bell site? I found one link that actually brought up the rogers page but as soon as I try to follow another page on that link same thing?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm new here and I was wondering which Motorola Milestone to buy. I'm here in America and am trying to decide between these two. I currently have AT&T as my carrier: Motorola Milestone NAM 3G 850/1900 (OEM) (Unlocked). Motorola Milestone NAM (Telus) (Unlocked). Now the Telus one and the OEM one seems to support the same frequency bands for AT&T 3G (HSPA 3G 850/1900). My only question is, what is the difference? I'd like to buy the OEM one because it's cheaper, but I'm wondering if there's more of an advantage to buy the Telus one. I read somewhere that I may have to fiddle with the APN settings to get 3G to work if I get the OEM one. Is this true and are there any other problems with buying the OEM version?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently did the Telus OTA Froyo update and now I am wondering if I can still root my phone? Did I screw the pooch buy installing the update? And it would seem most of the benefits of rooting were addressed in the update but I am interested in overclocking, better apps and partitioning. Seems like even with the update I still can't move all my apps to my SD card as I thought I might be able to and I've been told that is the dev's problem and not Google but with rooting can more be moved to my SD?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI searched other WiFi tethering posts and couldn't find the answer. If I get a droid 2 rooted, will the WiFi tethering be free? And will it be unlimited? Or does Verizon stop me or add charges for going over a certain number of gigs?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got a Telus version of the HTC Hero. Coming from an iPhone, I've been through some of the 'root/jailbreak' scenes, so most things are familiar. However, making the transition to the Anrdoid OS, there's many things I'm not understanding. Currently the Hero is running 1.5 (can that be updated). I tried running Instant Root and it failed. So I tried the Gold Card method (Eh, not too bad) and no luck with that. I'm not sure where to start, since the guides mentioned in the stickies for root don't work for me. I'm just a confused newbie with the Android customization scene.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI hate to start a new thread but I searched the forum for an answer with no success. I'M a SWAC customer and my fiance is my sponsor. She is concerned that if I root my Evo and get free Wifi tethering she will possibly get fired if Sprint notices the larger amount of data usage. Has anyone ever heard of a Sprint employee getting fired over rooting their phone? I want to root but not at the expense of getting my fiance fired.
View 4 Replies View RelatedOkay, so I've read things about rooting your EVO and one of my favorite aspects is the mobile hotspot/tethering thing you can get for free. I looked through the forums to see if there's an easier way of accomplishing this than rooting my whole phone. I've taken a few computer classes, so I have a decent knowledge base, but rooting just seems way over my head. Anyway, is it possible to do this without rooting the whole EVO?
View 6 Replies View RelatedRooting sounds like a great thing, but right now the only thing I want is WiFi tethering. I found the following instructions to get free WiFi tethering on my Incredible using verizons hotspot app that came with with Froyo upgrade a few months ago.. So far , it works fine (although I do have to reset the wireless adapter on whatever machine I want to tether to the phone, but that only take 2 seconds).
1. Dial ##778
2. Go into edit mode
3. The password is 000000
4. Once in go to M.IP Default Profile and edit DUN NAI from yournumber@dun.vzw3g.com to yournumber@vzw3g.com.
5. Then hit menu and press commit modifications.
6. It should then reboot.
7. FREE WiFi!!!
I am using Motorola Milestone UK version with AT & T. G Mail and Yahoo etc work fine. Data plan also work perfect wih At&T 2G. AT&T 3 G can not use with Milestone because 3 G band of AT & T is not supoerted by Milestone.
However, real problem is that when I call anybody, he always finds my voice breaks on Milestone. When I switch to speaker they find my voice perfect. I can hear their voice clearly. Any body has same problem.
Secondly, I would like to dowload "Car Home" app which is available with Droid. It is not available in Market place. When I try to see how it is intsalled in my friend's droid, it shows 0 KB. Does this app is part of Android for Verizon. When I dock the phone in Car dock, as I dont have Car home app so phone does not pop up Navigation window which is part of Car Home. I can use Google Map manually. This is not big problem.
Can I find an app that will make my HTC Legend able to act as a wifi router, without rooting the phone?

View 9 Replies View RelatedHere is something interesting about the Milestone. Enable Airplane mode, put it on the charger over night. Wake up to find your Milestone drained. This happens with my Blackberry Curve as well. Airplane mode drains the battery faster than its being charged. Has anyone else seen this? Or am i just getting lucky twice?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Motorola has begun to behave strangely. I think they lost the battery too quickly, so I have yesterday installed Netcounter and a Task Manager to see what it may be due.
Since yesterday, it downloaded 53 MB of data, including 28 MB today. It's too much, because I have hardly used it for anything but standby. There obviously mail pops up on it, but I read them on my PC. I have not used Google Maps, Web browsing or other things.
WiFi is off, but my battery is at 50% (this morning at 7:30 am, it was at 100% - now 4 hours later it's 50%).
Last night the Milestone was warm on the backside, but not where the battery is placed, but closer to where the sender/radio is placed.
Conclusion: Some programs must be running all the time,
1 hour ago I closed all programs using Task Manager.
But now, all these apps seems to be running (according to task manager):
*Netcounter
Phone Portal
Calendar
*Handcent SMS
**Alarm Clock
Music
Settings
Email (ikke google mail)
Maps
Media Gallery
Bluetooth file transfer
Smart Alarm clock
Messaging
Facebook (jeg bruger ikke facebook widget)
MyBackup
Corporate calendar (ikke google kalenderen, men en kalender der kan synkronisere med outlook)
**CalWidget
*Gmail
AK Notepad
Photoshop.com mobile
Practically all programs. I have only used programs marked *
** = programs I can understand if they're running, i.e. widgets
Why does all my programs start? And which are using the Internet?
I looked at settings -> about phone -> battery usage:
android.process.acore: 71%
Facebook: 6%
display 5%
Android system 5%
Phone idle 4%
Cell standby 3%
Google 3%
Android os 2%
Cell Standby should be >90% since I've not using the phone today.
Any ideas? Should I erase all and restart? Or is it because I have not updated yet (still running the 2.0 version from out of the box)
I am unable to use Gtalk, gmail, Maps, Market, Email (all pre installed) using GPRS/EDGE (Vodafone Live) on my Milestone. But All of these works with Wi-Fi connection. I installed Meeboo Messanger, this is also not working with GPRS/EDGE.
I called Motorola Customer care, they are saying that I have to take a DataPlan from Vodafone and should ask Vodafone to activate all GPRS/EDGE settings on my mobile. So I took a DataPlan (200 Rs. 100 MB), Vodafone People are saying that all available setting are already activated on my cell. But I am still unable to use any of them above. Every time no network connection found error is coming.
When i take a photo in the dark just using the flash with a close up photo of an object. Half sometimes 3/4 of the screen is black, i have a feeling its and app because i sent it back to motorola and the re-flashed the phone, it was working fine until i restored all my apps using "my backup pro" and now i have the same problem as before.I need to find out which app is causing the problem.I also find that the camera doesnt work at full flash capacity because when i press the camera button to focus the testing flash is alot brighter than the flash it uses to take the actual photo.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI just got a milestone yesterday, and I was fascinated by it. The only thing that kills me, is that it doesn't take permission to connect to the internet. I used to have a Nokia, which always had to take my permission first to connect to 3G internet network.
But with the milestone, it doesn't, and I get charged for every single 1kb used I just lost what is equivalent to $10 USD in the last 5 mins for just trying to open Google and download the SlideME app. is there some kind of hidden tasks that uses the internet or something ?
One more thing, today morning, I opened facebook after recharging my credit balance with 20 USD. And guess what ? They're all gone too for just opening the home page! if I have an active internet connection, how can I close it ?
Does anyone know where to get a good pouch style case for the milestone? I've looked through eBay, but they are all generic ones which are either too small or big.
View 3 Replies View RelatedEverything seems damn fast and it's so simple to set up. Only problem is that I have set up my work e-mail (which sits on a server and is a POP-3 account I think!...can you tell I'm not technical?!?!) using the in-built client on the phone, trouble is that it keeps crashing and has to do a force close on me pretty much every time. I've looked for this same topic in the forum but cant find anything which answers the issue. Is the next software release likely to fix this bug?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to reboot a crashed milestone when the power button is non responsive? View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got a Motorola Milestone and would like to mount it to my Linux (Suse 11.2) without the use of the media cradle. With the cradle, you pop the phone on, connect your USB cable to the cradle and to the computer, and -- very important! -- switch your cradle from "charge" to "sync". Then your Milestone is immediately recognised as a USB mass storage device and all is fine. But without the cradle? The phone charges from USB but won't talk to my Linux. There is absolutely nothing in the syslogs, so it looks like the phone is not behaving as a USB-enabled device. It seems from the above that I should switch my phone from the charging mode to sync, but does anyone know how to do it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have now been using the overclocking function for over a month and would like to report on the settings found to be most effective.
I use a combination of apps to achieve excellent battery consumption (1 1/2 days generally).
1. Screebl, set to 15 seconds.
2. Milestone Overclock, set to custom 1000 MHz @ 69 vsel
3. SetCPU general 1000/500 with charge 250/1000 and sleep 250/500
Ive found that the 125 MHz setting does not push enough juice to the radios and i sometimes get glitches with the touch panel/ dialler when SetCPUs ondemand governor is waking up to a call or 3g connection.
Also, the lowered vsel value of 69 seems to save a half day's battery as opposed to standard 1000 MHz/ 72 vsel offered by Milestone Overclock.
Screebl is a must for anyone who doesnt have it, as its simply the most effective battery manager out there. Would like a five seconds option though
How to do it?
in contact, menu button will show display option
display option>>only contacts with phones / Choose contacts to display (email acc)
