I tried the wifi tether for the first time today.When i try to run it,it goes to a black screen that says su request,then force closes the su permissions app.anybody know what I'm doing wrong?I tried rebooting,didn't help.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been a Blackberry and Windows Mobile user for the last eight years. I am 55% sure that I want to get the Hero but I am not 100% sold. I am also considering the Pre. I know this sounds crazy, but the absolute #1 thing I need is Internet sharing and tethering capability; even more so than a phone itself. I must be able to connect my phone to my laptop, either by usb or bluetooth, and have it working in less than 30 seconds each time. I currently run Ubuntu 9.4 and Windows Vista/XP. My windows mobile phone works with all of these, and quickly.I have searched and searched but have found nothing as to wether the Sprint version is capable of thethering.

View 18 Replies View RelatedWife and I each have new Sprint HTC Hero. We also have a home wifi network using an older (pre-802.11n) Apple Airport Extreme base station as WDS main and an old Apple Airport Express as a WDS remote. When we're home we tend to turn on our phone's wifi.
As long as only one phone has wifi turned on, everything is fine. But within minutes of turning on wifi on the second phone as well, our wifi router starts to lose it. Apparent massive interference. After a few more minutes the router becomes catatonic, so much so that Airport Utility cannot even see the router at all.
A power cycle of the router fixes things for at most a few minutes, then it rapidly goes downhill again. Turning off the wifi on one phone (doesn't seem to matter which one) and power-cycling the router brings back perfect sanity until the next time wifi on both phones is turned on.
I have neither the time nor the energy to go through the inevitable denials and mutual finger-pointing with Apple and Sprint, but I thought I would make note of it here for the benefit of the community.
Tethering - using PdaNet, works flawlessly. I have used it on forums and to watch videos. I am getting speeds between 1.5 and 2.0, not bad at all.
NESoid - works great, just make sure the background apps aren't running. Use the search and back buttons for A and B.
Apps - I switched from the iPhone 3Gs and found that any usable App from the App Store can be found in the Android Market.
I have not had any of the problems listed. All I have done is replace the messaging app with handcent's. I do a soft reset every now and again, but that is all the changes I have made.
Sprint and Android together = Awesome - I pay $60 a month with my discount and get unlimited to any mobile, 450 land line minutes, unlimited data and text message.
I just connected my rooted hero to a network and noticed it does work but gets hot fast and losses power faster than it can charge. I heard about usb (wired) tethering but haven't been able to find any tutorials on it. Can someone tell me if usb tethering would make a difference in terms of heat and battery life, and if so explain how it works or where i can get it from?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently flashed to the Fresh 2.1.2 rom, and i'm having trouble using the "Wireless Tether". I've uninstalled the one that came with the rom, and i've installed a fresh new copy from the Marketplace. But every time I've tried hitting the "tether" button, it says "Unable to start tethering, please try again!"
My superuser app isn't doing anything, this might be the problem. Whenever I open the superuser app, it's a complete blank screen.
That's the notification that came up when i was testing my wireless tethering just now. It came up in my notification bar in a red shield. i have tested it before without this warning. running fresh 1.1

I am trying to go wireless and get rid of my DSL I have tried US Cellular tethered, abysmally slow. I tried Verizon, fast enough, very expensive for what you get. Now I am trying Sprint with a Hero and a Samsung Moment to use as phones etc, plus tether to our laptop and desk top to use as a modem. The Sprint store personnel tell me that it can be done, just not something that Sprint will tell me how to do. One of the young ladies tell me that there is an AP that I can download to do it. She uses her Hero as a modem all the time. What would I need to do?

I changed the ssid so that it's something that I can remember and be unique... I turn on wifi and mobile network... is that right?
Go back into the wireless tether program and push the tether button. It then takes me to the SU request screen and does nothing...
Normally when something needs root it pops up to allow access but it does nothing.. . Just wondering what am I doing wrong and why is this then turning off my wifi when I go back to check the widget it shows that the wifi is turned off?
My husband is in Iraq. I know you use your phone as a modem and use the internet off your phone on your computer. but he wants to reverse it. he wants to use his computer's internet on his phone.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed the wireless tethering app today and decided to play with it for the heck of it, I was able to set it up, and when I went to my laptop and hit refresh I was able to see the network, I then tried to connect and it would not connect, as it said something about a 13 key ascii so I checked to see and checked the password and still could not connect got the same error message, i then decided to disable the encryption and then refresh the network and tried to connect again, I was able to connect but was not able to open a page up, now i don't know if that was because my reception was not great but still would not open a web page, any suggestions, another note, it rebooted the phone about 3 times and froze the phone once, I am on the AOSP Mod ROM V 0.9.7. I know the Cat mentioned he got his to work, just curious if it was with this Rom or the CM6 one, any input would be great, just want it as a backup incase of in a bind.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI went from a stock 1.5 to 2.1 using the Sprint 2.1 RUU and all is well. I understand it's a dev build and as such is already root but when I trying installing android-wifi-tether (both 2.0 and 1.6) it all looks well except when I touch the icon to start and it fails. The 1.6 version did report I didn't have root.
What do I need to do in ADB/shell to ensure the proper permissions are there for AWT? This is the last thing I want to get working and I'm happy.
Do I need to remount the filesystem as rw? Add superuser? Not sure what's needed.
I seem to have an intermittent error when trying to start WiFi. Mostly (>95%) of the time I get "unable to start WiFi". Occasionally it works but this is rare and usually when it has been switched off for a few days. The problem occurs when I try to start via the wi-fi widget or via the MenuSettingsWireless controls path. I'm reluctant to do a factory reset unless I really have no other option.

i rooted my daughter's sprint hero and installed 1.1 fresh rom. now her phone won't connect via bluetooth with her car. it worked fine before rooting. is there a fix?

View 18 Replies View RelatedI've had my Sprint Hero for around 4 months now, it is not rooted, running stock 1.5.I was trying to check the marketplace for any updates to my apps and it brought me to the set up google account screen.I've tried signing in and It tells me that there was an error on sign in and my SIM card might not be provisioned for data. Obviously as a Sprint customer I don't have a SIM card, is there anything I can do to get things working again?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got my Hero two days ago. I was told to make sure there were to firmware or PRL updates. The Firmware said it was up to date. I tried the PRL update this morning and it said it could not be done now to try later. If problem persists contact Sprint. Error code 1012. I am not sure what PRL even is and does this sound like a problem on Sprint's end or my phone? Sorry for the dumb question, I am new to all this technology.

If my phone rings, and I ignore or miss the call, the caller will hear a recorded voice say "The number or code you have entered is incorrect, please check the number or code and try again. Message 7, Switch .."
BUT, if the phone never rings (like it cannot connect b/c of no service or in data and call never comes thru) then the caller is forwarded to my voicemail, can leave a message, and it comes thru on visual voicemail.
I have uninstalled/reinstalled the voicemail app, no such luck. I think this may be a Sprint-side problem.
