View 14 RepliesI just got my invite to Google voice and I was super excited, but then I found out there were some issues with Sprint playing nice with GV. I have a couple of questions for any of you using GV with sprint network. FYI, I have the any mobile any time plan. Questions:
1. I understand that sprint treats GV as a landline call, does this mean that it will eat my minutes with every call? also, is there a workaround for this? 2. should I get a google number or keep my number 3. if i get a google number can people still call my old number? 4. I read a lot about call forwarding and some *28 and *73 options, but i couldn't wrap my head around what to actually do. I know sprint dropped some 20 cent charge, but I also read that in some situations that charge still applies. 5. can you cancel out of the service after you have signed up.
Is this possible without rooting and paying for the service from Sprint

View 4 Replies View RelatedHey i just joined the forum because i recently upgraded from a samsung moment to a htc evo and i am loving it to death. I bought the phone of ebay and i have the 7 dollar monthly insurance plan on sprint and i just wanted to know that if i break or damage or lose the phone will i be able to get it replaced. Oh and how do you cancel sprint TV subscriptions?
View 8 Replies View RelatedAs a prospective buyer of an EVO and current ATT customer I was thinking of setting up a new account with Sprint (new #), and if I like the EVO port to Sprint. Would they port my existing number and cancel the new number they would give me when I set up the account?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI've been lurking for a while. I seem to be having trouble rooting my phone, all the one click programs for the CDMA Hero seem to be only for sprint builds, I got my phone through a smaller network (CREDO Mobile) and every root program I've tried seems to fail.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen traveling near my home area I encounter areas with no Sprint service. The phone roams into Verizon network which is very strong in my area. Beginning last week when I attempt to make a call when roaming on Verizon I get a message stating Verizon can not verify this phone number unable to make call. I contacted Sprint about the problem. They suggested a few things i already did, update PRL and profile etc.... which did not help. They told me there was nothing they could do because they cant guarantee service on their phones when roaming. This baffles me because phone roamed fine on Verizon for 6 months all of a sudden it doesnt. Any ideas on how this can be fixed? About 30 percent of my home town has no Sprint coverage so I guess I am just SOL.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI rooted my phone about a moth ago. Install FRESH ROM 1.1. Everything was going great the first couple of days, apps were running so much smoother the lag had completely stoped, but the last couple of days my phone stared lagging again much more then before rooting. I did a soft reset and a hard reset but it wont help at all.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been around these forums since the Hero came out. I was lurking then and became a member when I bought a Hero 2 weeks later. I enjoy my Hero although yes it is slow at times. I love watching my SprintTV on my phone and listening to Pandora. I have read that if I but a custom ROM on and SetCPU and a few other goodies, I can speed the phone up a lot and have a better experience. I also hear that I can tether without having to use PDANet.
1. Can I still use Sprint TV?
2. Is the speed boost really worth installing a Custom ROM
3. What is the benefit of just Rooting the phone and keeping the Stock ROM?
4. I see this voids the warranty, but if you put the stock software back on the phone, does sprint ever know that you rooted if you take it in for service?
5. And can some of you that have done this process list out the top 5 favorite features you got out of this. Makes these actual results, not just what you heard about.
I just bought an EVO and like the features however its just to bulky of a phone for me . So I am going to go with the HERO.
I was told by sprint that if I upgrade to the 2.1 with the HERO I may have issues, that it was not designed for this upgrade in mind. Should I stick with the previous release?
Another option is, should I root the phone ( which I have no idea what that is) so I can get the 2.2 version when it comes out or maybe stick with the 2.1 version and with the rooted phone it will work properly.
I'm so confused, I consider myself pretty tech savvy but coming from a BB I'm new to all of this. Any help would be appreciated. I am also concerned about battery life. I understand how to turn off all the unneccessary crap like Wi-Fi, GPS, Messenger, etc when not in use, but will rooting the phone or upgrading to 2.1 or 2.2 help with that issue as well.
Im new to the whole android marketing and I don't know really alot about phones and everything but I have been reading about people commenting on rooting there phones and I like to have the best things and up to date phone, so if someone can please send me any directiongs or steps for rooting.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been lurking the rooting scene and other places for quite a while, but have only just joined up in these forums. (I'm no forum nooby been on and been active on dozens of forums)
I have to admit, this most likely has been answered before, but I have been extremely busy lately due to school.
The question: I have refrained from rooting my Hero (I am a linux user in case any one wanted to know ) due to time constraints, I have yet to root it. I will probably attempt this weekend.
I bought the hero Oct. 11th, the day it came out iirc, and I have built up quite a hefty sum of applications.
After the rooting process, I plan use the gumbo kernel, and fresh1.1. One of the reasons that have held me from rooting is what happens to those apps? I will flash Fresh1.1, so they will be deleted. Is there a way to extract all the applications from the nandroid backup I will make before flashing Fresh 1.1, and put them on the SD card and install them? I would love very much not to have to go and individually download each application from the market again.
I am new to this and have just rooted my phone (Htc Hero). Is there a difference b/w rooting your phone and unlocking it? If so what and how do I do it? I am on sprint and am not even sure if unlocking it will do anything since it is CDMA.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIm am wanting to delete all the sprint apps without rooting(I dont think I can root my phone yet because I just bought it).
I have read that Root Explorer can take the apps off, but I havnt seen anything definite about deleting the apps if im NOT rooted.
Hello all I am very new to the droid world coming from iphone/pod. Can anyone explane what it means to root the phone? is it anything like jailbreaking? what is the benefit of rooting?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI did a search and couldn't find anything on this.I am still using the stock 2GB microSD card, and looking to root. Can I root with my current card (which has 650MB-ish available), and after rooting just purchase a new card and swap it out. Or would it be more advantageous to purchase the new SD card prior to rooting?
View 2 Replies View RelatedHow can I maximize the customization of my Hero? Like lock screen, home, and anything that I can change the appearance of without rooting my phone.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI've had the issue of not being able to download MMS messages for the last few months after a few trouble free months with the Hero. It's the only problem I have with the phone. I'm wondering if anyone who had this issue has since rooted and had the problem be resolved from that. I'm on the fence about rooting. I'm generally happy with the phone as it stands. And as a long time Mac user, I'm nervous about messing around with the internal stuff. And all the rooting tutorials seem to be for the Windows user.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have read up a lot about rooting my phone, and I think I might give it a go, mainly to get rid of some of the bloatware on the sprint hero, and also for the apps2sd capability. My question is however, how will this effect my ability to update to android 2.1 in the first half of next year. Will I have to wait for a custom ROM to be made or will i be able to update as normal?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI am going to try and root my phone tonight so that I can install the new Fresh Rom. I always see people saying that you should read and read and read before you root. Do I really need to read and read and read when there are step by step instructions to follow? Also, at what point of the process of rooting are you most vulnerable to bricking your phone?

View 4 Replies View RelatedIf i root my sprint htc hero the way unlockr.com says and load a fresh, when 2,1 comes out, will i be able to update to it? i know it probably been answered a thousand times on here, bu ti havent found it. also i hear about nandroid backup. how do i do that, and does it restore to factory settings or can you you choose a specific restore point? thanks in advance. i have to say also the hero is soooooooooo much better than the moment. i had the samsung for about 2 weeks, and was wanting to go to bb, but i read all the great posts on here abou the hero, so i went with it, and couldnt be happier
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I was able to get my phone rooted just fine with the super one click method. The problem I ran into though was installing a new ROM - going through the initial set up I was not able to see any any of the text that I was typing. Trying to set up my Google account was impossible because the email field just stayed blank no matter how many times I would press a letter.
Now I had this same problem months ago when I tried rooting before, and just like this time I did try installing the ROM a couple of times. However, after it not working I gave up and installed the Sprint Stock RUU.
I have rooted and installed the fresh rom with gumbo on my sprin hero my wife has a cellular south hero and wants me to do the same for hers i was wondering if there was a simple guide to doing this the step by step guide for sprints hero was cool and easy to use.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI know you can remove those bogus stock apps by rooting the hero but I have a slightly different question that I couldn't find in other threads. I am interested in rooting my hero just to remove the bloatware and then unroot the phone back to its original ROM. I am not a huge fan of tinkering with my electronics because it voids warranties, possibly bricks devices, and causes trouble with firmware updates, but it really ticks me off that sprint forces these apps on us and then makes them impossible to uninstall. Imagine getting a new PC and not being able to remove crap like wild tangent and the 20 free trials for programs you don't want or need. I know this isn't news to anyone here, but every time I see that Nascar app I get irritated. Seriously sprint? Nascar? Anyway, my questions are 1.) is root/unroot possible to remove bloat and return to original state 2.) has anyone had success uninstalling pieces of the bloat without rooting? I don't want to uninstall anything integral to the phone like the stock messages app, but Nascar has gots to go!
