I just connected my rooted hero to a network and noticed it does work but gets hot fast and losses power faster than it can charge. I heard about usb (wired) tethering but haven't been able to find any tutorials on it. Can someone tell me if usb tethering would make a difference in terms of heat and battery life, and if so explain how it works or where i can get it from?

I am using fresh 2.1.2 - what do I need on my computer (drivers?) - to be able to do WIRED tether? I am trying to use the wired tether that is built into the Fresh Rom 2.1.2.

It says that Sprint will charge $30/month for using this feature, yet I see it available in the system settings. So if I turn it on, i'll start getting charged, or will it simply not work? I'll post the video when I am done but I just can't see to find an app. (And pdaNEt wont work. It has to run by itself. I dont have a way to install software on the other computer.)

I know this sounds crazy, but the absolute #1 thing I need is Internet sharing and tethering capability; even more so than a phone itself. I must be able to connect my phone to my laptop, either by usb or bluetooth, and have it working in less than 30 seconds each time. I currently run Ubuntu 9.4 and Windows Vista/XP. My windows mobile phone works with all of these, and quickly.I have searched and searched but have found nothing as to wether the Sprint version is capable of thethering.

View 18 Replies View RelatedTethering - using PdaNet, works flawlessly. I have used it on forums and to watch videos. I am getting speeds between 1.5 and 2.0, not bad at all.
NESoid - works great, just make sure the background apps aren't running. Use the search and back buttons for A and B.
Apps - I switched from the iPhone 3Gs and found that any usable App from the App Store can be found in the Android Market.
I have not had any of the problems listed. All I have done is replace the messaging app with handcent's. I do a soft reset every now and again, but that is all the changes I have made.
Sprint and Android together = Awesome - I pay $60 a month with my discount and get unlimited to any mobile, 450 land line minutes, unlimited data and text message.
I recently flashed to the Fresh 2.1.2 rom, and i'm having trouble using the "Wireless Tether". I've uninstalled the one that came with the rom, and i've installed a fresh new copy from the Marketplace. But every time I've tried hitting the "tether" button, it says "Unable to start tethering, please try again!"
My superuser app isn't doing anything, this might be the problem. Whenever I open the superuser app, it's a complete blank screen.
That's the notification that came up when i was testing my wireless tethering just now. It came up in my notification bar in a red shield. i have tested it before without this warning. running fresh 1.1

I am trying to go wireless and get rid of my DSL I have tried US Cellular tethered, abysmally slow. I tried Verizon, fast enough, very expensive for what you get. Now I am trying Sprint with a Hero and a Samsung Moment to use as phones etc, plus tether to our laptop and desk top to use as a modem. The Sprint store personnel tell me that it can be done, just not something that Sprint will tell me how to do. One of the young ladies tell me that there is an AP that I can download to do it. She uses her Hero as a modem all the time. What would I need to do?

I changed the ssid so that it's something that I can remember and be unique... I turn on wifi and mobile network... is that right?
Go back into the wireless tether program and push the tether button. It then takes me to the SU request screen and does nothing...
Normally when something needs root it pops up to allow access but it does nothing.. . Just wondering what am I doing wrong and why is this then turning off my wifi when I go back to check the widget it shows that the wifi is turned off?

View 20 Replies View RelatedI installed the wireless tethering app today and decided to play with it for the heck of it, I was able to set it up, and when I went to my laptop and hit refresh I was able to see the network, I then tried to connect and it would not connect, as it said something about a 13 key ascii so I checked to see and checked the password and still could not connect got the same error message, i then decided to disable the encryption and then refresh the network and tried to connect again, I was able to connect but was not able to open a page up, now i don't know if that was because my reception was not great but still would not open a web page, any suggestions, another note, it rebooted the phone about 3 times and froze the phone once, I am on the AOSP Mod ROM V 0.9.7. I know the Cat mentioned he got his to work, just curious if it was with this Rom or the CM6 one, any input would be great, just want it as a backup incase of in a bind.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a serious problem with my HTC Hero. Basically, all of a sudden I got this icon of a pair of headphones in the notification area. I checked what it meant on the manual and it means: Wired Headset Connected.There were no headset connected when it appeared and never before because I have never put any headset in the phone. I thought that by restarting the mobile I'll have it solved..but no..the icon remains there. The major problem is not the icon in itself but the phonecalls. When I call someone or someone calls me, there is no sound in the ear speaker because the sound output is basically going into a headset that does not exist. I tried putting the factory headset in and out to refresh the icon however this does not sort out the problem neither. There is no setting to switch this thing on or off and I have no idea how it came up. I tried all settings even during an incoming call or so but nothing..there's this flag that keeps indicating a wired headset. I don't feel like formatting the phone because it's not fair!! (and i dont have the damn time to play around..it costs good money so i pretend it works fine he only way I can have a phone conversation is either by putting the call on speakerphone (obviously losing privacy) or by carrying a headset around with me all the time.
