HTC EVO 4G :: Have 3G Antennas Improved In Past 2 Years?
May 10, 2010
This may seem like an odd question, but, right now I'm using a late 2008 model Samsung Rant(I cannot wait to ditch it),I seem to have good 3G signal on it, but it seems to be sluggish at the start of using data.Basically what I'm asking is, have the 3G antennas used in phones improved in the last few years? Can I expect an upgrade in that manner or has it pretty much been the same technology for several years?

I want to use my tracks to map some of my local dirtbike trails, problem is that my droid will be in my backpack to protect it from the elements. I'm wondering if there are any external gps antennas available for the droid I could hang out of the back pack?

So I bough a couple games from the Sprint store (online) a couple years ago, including Bejewled, Deer Hunter and Tetris. I have changed phones a couple times since then, and was able to redownload them free of charge because it kept records on my account of them. Now I have my Evo and cannot figure out how to get back to the Sprint store site, so I cant get these games I have already paid for. Any ideas?

There is a date calculation error in the Contact app. When I press the People icon, then long click a person and select Edit Contact, scroll down to the birthday field. If I entered the date 11/12/1935 and select Done. the date shows in the Birthday field 11/13/2009. I select the Birthday again and the date is 11/12/1935.
With some testing If I place the year on 1945 or later, the day stays 12 but if I select 1944 or earlier the day changes to 13.

I recently bought a DroidX and am looking to import 10 years of Outlook calendar info. I don't need to do a two-way synch as I am using Touchdown for Exchange synchronization and it works great (but it is not good with large calendar history files). I just need a stand-alone calendar app that has it's own data file and can import my Outlook calendar history and allow me to search.

I'm looking for a way to trigger repeated actions. I'd like the user to be able to choose the intervals at which these actions will be executed. One should be able to choose from intervals like "Every Day", "Every Month", and "Every Year". The setRepeating(int, long, long, PendingIntent) method of the android.app.AlarmManager class only supports a long value for choosing the interval between the execution of the pending intent. My problem now is, that I can not just compute the number of milliseconds that "fit into one day", since not all days have the same length (daylight saving). This is also a problem for the interval type "year" (leap years).
I had a quick look at the android.os.Handler class, but as I understood the documentation I'd need to keep a service thread running for my actions to be executed at some future time. I don't consider that a good option for my needs ;-) Is there anything in the API I could configure with a cron expression or the like? I was also thinking about scheduling an alarm with the AlarmManager for a single execution at a given date/time and then having a receiver that does the rescheduling according to a cron expression attached to the intent. But I don't know if I just got something completely wrong here and I'm reinventing the wheel with that approach

How should I move 10 years of calendar information to my Google Gmail account? Currently using Outlook 2003, HTC Incredible (no calendar info yet); old phone was Palm Centro. Ready to take the plunge but do I move all calendar data at once? Someone mentioned copying everything until this year and placing it in an archive calendar? Have no idea how to do this. And I want/need to be able to see (and search) on all my old data.

Forget about losing your car at the airport parking, shopping mall or outside the football stadium. Car Finder AR is an augmented reality app that proyects the position of your car on top of the camera view of your mobile phone. Use augmented reality view, Google Maps view or RADAR view to find your car. Just park, open Car Finder AR, go to the menu and save your current position, that's it!

I didn't at first, but I have been for at least the last week. I'm not entirely certain why, though. I used to be below 30% at the end of every day (1.5 and 2.1 OTA), regardless of how much/little I used the phone. Often having to put it on the charger when I got home from work just to make it through the evening. Lately, I've been ending my day (15+ hours off the charger) at 50-60% remaining, consistently. I'm curious to know if others have experienced this, or if it's just something weird with my phone. AFAIK, most of the data sync settings are exactly the same as they were.
Interestingly, I am leaving 3g and GPS on always, now, where I used to turn them on only when needed. Also, it seems that my mail and weather widgets are not updating as consistently, which could be leading to some increases. I have used the "end all" in System Panel a few times when the battery seemed to be draining extra fast, but I have my mail, weather, sms, etc. Excluded, so I don't know if that's it.

I removed the People widget. From the main screen, scroll right. Hold down the People widget and remove it. I was getting 10 hours daily off a full charge. Today I got up to 14. Normally I lose 10% per hour. In the morning, I was losing 5%. I was hoping to double my 10 hours and get to 20 but I did make it to 14.
I was also losing 15-20% in the first hour battery drain. After removing the people widget, I only lost 3%! Previously, I tried everything. Turned off GPS, formatted SD card, hard reset, changed from GSM to CDMA, charging while the phone was off/on repeatedly. I have hardware version 003.

I am curious to see if anyone has had improved battery life by disabling htc sense and running stock android 2.1. Since I purchased my evo I have been running sense and just recently disabled it from running by default and set it to run the original home by default. I have seen a little bit of battery improvement but not enough to come to any good conclusion just yet. To me sense makes the phone a lot better mostly because of the widgets so I'll end up switching it back after a while but I was just curious to see if there would be any major difference as far as battery life goes.

UPDATED UPDATE: Root is no longer required! Re-released in .apk format! Get it here: UPDATE: now ported to 2.0.1 by jinx10000 at Alldroid. Available here: To all those adventurous souls out there, there is a new 2.1 ROM available at Alldroid that was built from a newer Nexus One build than Greek's. In this ROM, there is an updated music player. While the update is not very significant, it does change it a little bit. -There are no longer buttons for songs, albums, playlists, and artist. They are now tabs and always there. -If a song is playing, a "now playing" bar is always at the bottom of the screen -When you open an album, the album art is in the background of the song list. You can see in the following screenshots: Once you get to the song playing screen, though, it is the same as before. As for overall, the new 2.1 ROM is very good. Improved performance for sure. The gallery is very quick, browser, etc. GPS works, keyboard back light is improved. LED notifications still are quirky.

I had been using ebuddy for IMs on the Droid since I got the phone but was really having a horrible time with battery life. Well this morning I downloaded Meebo to give it a try and I must say it appears that ebuddy was the source of my battery problems. I have had Meebo on all day and my battery is at 90 percent so it appears that it uses a lot less energy than ebuddy does. Give it a try if you've been having battery issues and have been using ebuddy.

A couple of days ago, the battery went from 8:00am right through to 5:00am (i.e. 21 hours) with around 2 hours of phone calls, about half with bluetooth, probably 50 texts and maybe 15 minutes of WiFi. After all of that, it still had 50% left according to the battery widget I have. Unbelievable! I had changed nothing from the previous day, in terms of settings, applications etc. The next day, it was back to it's usual 15 hours before getting down to about 10%. I have absolutely no idea why it decided to give me a decent day!

If you're like a lot of Android users, you're obsessed with battery life and probably require a percentage widget. If you don't use a battery life widget, this probably isn't for you. I used to use Curve Fish's battery life widget which, in my initial testing months ago, didn't seem to affect battery life so I kept it and didn't think much about it.
My brother-in-law showed me a percentage indication that goes over the battery icon in the status bar on his Evo 4G. I found this hack for the Hero:
[PORT] Display Percent Battery Left within Battery Icon - Fresh 2.1.2+ - xda-developers
It adds the percentage remaining on top of your existing battery gauge in the status bar. Yes, root is required for this. At the time of writing this, I am at 14h 20m since unplugged and have 69% remaining. I would typically be between 47-53% remaining by this time. That equates to 3.5% drain per hour improved to 2.2% drain per hour. Which then comes out to around 60% increase in battery life without the loss of any features.

So I applied the fix for the battery life in the other thread posted here last week. Using chompsms, my battery life has improved significantly. However, the fix stopped working today.
I am not using messages and am using chompsms. However, by noon today, my battery life was at 50%, whereas normally it's at 80.
Now the weird thing is, the uptime of the phone is still very low (15%ish). However, using spare parts--> battery usage --> partial wake usage, I found that the Dialer was using an incredible amount of battery -the exact same phenomoneon in the original issue. So, it seems that the fix has stopped working and battery life is low again, but the phone still recognizes the phone as going into standby.

I'm still new to this Rooting so I have a question. I've tried about 14 different ROMs over the past month or so. My Eris always freezes up when I set the OC past 787mhz. I have read where some people are using Kernals that let them OC past 800. Is this something I can flash to my Eris or is my Eris just limited to 787?

I have ran into a issue while trying to root my Droid. I was following the sticky and the first time I used RSD and loaded SPRecovery 2.1 SBF it failed. I got a Critical Error DEA1. I then booted the phone and ran the file again and it completed this time.I have powered down and held X each time and never get past this screen. I then went into the section on putting the stock OS back and I get the same issue. Is there anything I can do? I have been searching the forms, but I cannot find anything.
