I didn't at first, but I have been for at least the last week. I'm not entirely certain why, though. I used to be below 30% at the end of every day (1.5 and 2.1 OTA), regardless of how much/little I used the phone. Often having to put it on the charger when I got home from work just to make it through the evening. Lately, I've been ending my day (15+ hours off the charger) at 50-60% remaining, consistently. I'm curious to know if others have experienced this, or if it's just something weird with my phone. AFAIK, most of the data sync settings are exactly the same as they were.
Interestingly, I am leaving 3g and GPS on always, now, where I used to turn them on only when needed. Also, it seems that my mail and weather widgets are not updating as consistently, which could be leading to some increases. I have used the "end all" in System Panel a few times when the battery seemed to be draining extra fast, but I have my mail, weather, sms, etc. Excluded, so I don't know if that's it.
I removed the People widget. From the main screen, scroll right. Hold down the People widget and remove it. I was getting 10 hours daily off a full charge. Today I got up to 14. Normally I lose 10% per hour. In the morning, I was losing 5%. I was hoping to double my 10 hours and get to 20 but I did make it to 14.
I was also losing 15-20% in the first hour battery drain. After removing the people widget, I only lost 3%! Previously, I tried everything. Turned off GPS, formatted SD card, hard reset, changed from GSM to CDMA, charging while the phone was off/on repeatedly. I have hardware version 003.
I am curious to see if anyone has had improved battery life by disabling htc sense and running stock android 2.1. Since I purchased my evo I have been running sense and just recently disabled it from running by default and set it to run the original home by default. I have seen a little bit of battery improvement but not enough to come to any good conclusion just yet. To me sense makes the phone a lot better mostly because of the widgets so I'll end up switching it back after a while but I was just curious to see if there would be any major difference as far as battery life goes.

Well this morning I downloaded Meebo to give it a try and I must say it appears that ebuddy was the source of my battery problems. I have had Meebo on all day and my battery is at 90 percent so it appears that it uses a lot less energy than ebuddy does. Give it a try if you've been having battery issues and have been using ebuddy.
View 1 Replies View RelatedA couple of days ago, the battery went from 8:00am right through to 5:00am (i.e. 21 hours) with around 2 hours of phone calls, about half with bluetooth, probably 50 texts and maybe 15 minutes of WiFi. After all of that, it still had 50% left according to the battery widget I have. Unbelievable! I had changed nothing from the previous day, in terms of settings, applications etc. The next day, it was back to it's usual 15 hours before getting down to about 10%. I have absolutely no idea why it decided to give me a decent day!

If you don't use a battery life widget, this probably isn't for you. I used to use Curve Fish's battery life widget which, in my initial testing months ago, didn't seem to affect battery life so I kept it and didn't think much about it.
My brother-in-law showed me a percentage indication that goes over the battery icon in the status bar on his Evo 4G. I found this hack for the Hero:

It adds the percentage remaining on top of your existing battery gauge in the status bar. Yes, root is required for this. At the time of writing this, I am at 14h 20m since unplugged and have 69% remaining. I would typically be between 47-53% remaining by this time. That equates to 3.5% drain per hour improved to 2.2% drain per hour. Which then comes out to around 60% increase in battery life without the loss of any features.
Here is just a quick photo of my desire just bordering on 2 days use which it did last to 2 Days and 2 Hours post photograph without charging:
This was based on medium to light usage I might add, phone calls, texts, market use, web browsing and around half an hour mp3 player usage. No gaming as I do find gaming using anything other than the "oid" range of emulators kills battery life fast. However heavy use generally nets me minimum 20 hours. Sorry about the dodgy picture, trying to get a decent close up shot using my N95 wasn't easy...
So I applied the fix for the battery life in the other thread posted here last week. Using chompsms, my battery life has improved significantly. However, the fix stopped working today.
I am not using messages and am using chompsms. However, by noon today, my battery life was at 50%, whereas normally it's at 80.
Now the weird thing is, the uptime of the phone is still very low (15%ish). However, using spare parts--> battery usage --> partial wake usage, I found that the Dialer was using an incredible amount of battery -the exact same phenomoneon in the original issue. So, it seems that the fix has stopped working and battery life is low again, but the phone still recognizes the phone as going into standby.
Anyone finding their Desires battery life has decreased with Froyo installed? I used to only go into the orange after a full day at work, now my battery died at around 12 Midday (Unplugged it 5 hours before) - I haven't been playing around on my phone or anything, this is just idle use.
Went through all my settings and all were the same as before. I'm NOT running any Task Killer or AutoSync software. Running stock OTA Froyo, never routed my phone before or after.
Well as the title says froyo has destroyed my battery life , i have 2 batterys and have tryed factory wipe , neither of my batterys since upgrade will last longer then 8 / 9 hours before i was getting 36 hours gutted wish i dident bother with upgrade ...... feel like my phones been ruined as 8 / 9 hours is just pathetic , i was curious if anyone else has experiance this ?
View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter the 2.2 update, my battery has been starting to be extremely bad. I recharged it yesterday until it was 100% charged. Now, 18 hours later, the battery is at 15%.
I only used my HTC Desire to do this:
1. Listening to offline songs through Wimp, a Spotify-clone, for about an hour.
2. Texting 3-4 sms.
3. Doing 1 call.
4. Having it on while I was asleep.
My battery was usually lasting 3-4 days with this kind of use, but now it's so bad.

The over-the-air update for the Motorola CLIQ has been delayed to the week of February 22. An updated article will be available once a date has been determined.
On February 18, Motorola will begin sending over-the-air (OTA) software updates to Motorola CLIQ customers. The software update will improve device performance and resolve several known issues.

Any idea on what is causing this. I've uninstalled most of my apps, disabled gtalk auto-sign in, disabled all syncing, updated the facebook app (which I dont use), and have been keeping the radios off and I still have much less life than with 2.1. I ran un revoked when I had 2.1. Did this break something? Is there another culprit? I went from being able to charge once a day to being forced to charge twice a day now.
View 32 Replies View RelatedAnyone else seeing worse battery life after going to froyo? I now get about 12 hours on limited use (a few texts and maybe a couple phone calls). Prior to the froyo rom (fresh 3.1.x), I was getting about 20+ hours on moderate use (also a fresh rom). I've made sure that google talk isn't running and the awake time isn't an issue. I currently have setcpu running without any profiles active and set it to conservative--no overclocking. My current setup is fresh 3.1.2 rom with Kingxkernel #3.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI noticed today that Froyo re-enabled "auto sign in" in Gtalk. I unchecked it, problem solved. If you're getting bad battery life after the update, make sure Gtalk is NOT auto signing you in. That's one of the biggest battery hogs. Just figured I'd post this to let everyone know a potential problem.
View 42 Replies View RelatedI got the OTA yesterday afternoon and I've noticed HORRIBLE battery life. For example, I usually get online at about 3:00 every day. I got the OTA at like 3:30 or so, and my battery life was at 55-60%.
Today, same time, my battery life is at 31%. Have you noticed any difference in your battery life after installing Froyo?
I'm trying to determine how much better my battery life is based on non-scientific normal everyday usage. I installed Sky Raider 1.9 on my phone. Charged two of my extra stock 1300mAH batteries to 100% and have been running them on the phone. Will restore back to my stock ROM and try the same and see the difference. What have you guys found? Aren't we supposed to see improved battery with Froyo?

Froyo ROMs increase your battery life! try this (UPDATE 08/26/2010) - xda-developers. Basically, whatever you want your max to be (700+ish) and setting the min down to 19 (lowest it can go).
I remember reading something about it not being good to have your CPU jumping 300+ Mhz, which it clearly would be doing with these values. I would ask over there, but that place kind of scares me Just wondering if any of the fine, intelligent folks over here have any advice on this. I would love for my eris to idle at 19200 but not at the cost of my battery and/or the phone itself.
A few days ago I woke up really excited to get my Froyo update. The first day I had it I had an error that kept occurring because of the htc keyboard I had previously been using. After restoring the keyboard to stock that problem went away, but the biggest problem of all took the forefront. I can't go more than 5 hours without needing to charge my phone. Before the update I usually charged my phone daily because I am a relatively heavy user. After the update, I am not using my phone any more than before. Today I charged my phone 3 times. Some people have said it is the facebook app, but I uninstalled the latest updates. I have noticed many of my programs are opening up in the background on their own.
View 47 Replies View RelatedI updated to 2.2 (Froyo) a couple days ago.While not really noticing anything significantly different, I have noticed my battery life is much shorter now.Before the 2.2 upgrade I'd unplug my phone around 8am. Thoughout the day I'd use it a bit simple internet searches, maybe 10 SMS, and maybe about 30 minutes of talk time. In addition I have a couple programs (Loopt, Weatherbug) that use GPS routinely to pinpoint my position. I aslo have Facebook and a news tracker that autoupate from time to time throughout the day. Even with all this by 10pm my battery would still show in the green approximately at 40%.I upgraded to 2.2 and have noticed my battery life is way worse.Today I unplugged the phone around 8am. The battery showed a full charge at that time.I didn't make a single call, or even turn the screen on whatsoever until around noon.At that time I sent a single SMS and noticed that my battery was yellow, probably around 20%. By 2pm the phone shut itself down due to a weak battery.I charged it up again and once again, in about 4 hours time my phone was nearly dead.I've checked all my settings and they are the same as they were before the 2.2 upgrade. If I look at the screen that shows what using your battery it indicates that 92% is being used by the andriod operating system. Not sure what the percentage was with 2.1 but that seems awfully high when you're not doing anything.Anybody else having the same problem? For what it's worth, my data calulator only showed 35kb up and 85kb down during the 6 hours this morning before my phone shut down.

Is there a fix for this? Im not running anything new compared to when I was using 2.1 and it "SEEMS" like my battery is dying quicker. I say seems because I havent compared awake/uptimes between 2.1 and 2.2.
Battery life wouldnt be so much an issue if it didnt take FOREVER to actually charge the battery.
I'm a very happy KaosFroyo 37 user, but I have some misc questions.(sorry, this item is a sort of double-post) Do any of these lockscreen widgets work with Froyo? When I was running Android 1.5 and 2.1, I would keep my screen pattern-locked most of the time, since it lives in my pants' pocket and I want to avoid it activating accidentally. Then when I get into the car and place my phone in a cup holder, I would unlock the phone once and click a widget which would leave it unlocked (for easy access to GPS, etc.) for the duration of my ride, when I would lock the phone again and put it back in my pocket.Now with Android 2.2 I can't do this with the lock pattern, because apparently the security mechanisms don't permit it; one must re-enter the lock pattern several times, which is very time-consuming. Is there another approach for 2.2 users? I don't need very strong security, just want to avoid accidental phone calls and other accidental activations.
While (Android's) Manage Applications worked for me initially, now it only works the first time after a reboot. I.e., I can run it once, but on any subsequent attempts it will hang while attempting to populate its app list. As workaround I purchased Quick App Clean Cache, which is nice in its own right, but it would still be nicer not to have this problem. Also I'm not 100% convinced that Quick App Clean Cache is always giving me the complete set of options for an app, e.g. to move it to an SD card. Have others encountered this problem? I could probably generate a logcat for debugging purposes.
Most apps will let you move them to the SD card in KaosFroyo 37, even though I haven't checked the CyanogenMod option to permit these.I guess that there are a few more apps which might copy more completely to the SD card if I used this option.Can anyone shed any light on this option and whether it's saves any memory, and whether it induces any instability?I'm always careful not to copy widgets to the SD card.Battery life is a continued mystery; clearly much worse than before I rooted. Apparently the CPU tweaker isn't recommended (I guess it uses too much battery life trying to figure out whether it needs to adjust the CPU speed), and the battery life tweaker on the XDA forum described doesn't provide a very clear strategy. What do folks recommend? [ Correction: I had read a pretty incoherent writeup somewhere on XDA, but now see Collin_ph Battery Tweak RC1 for Cyanogen / Darch Froyo roms (possibly others) - xda-developers which is well-written. I'm thinking of getting the HTC desire when it releases in the US and I know it has already in Europe. I'm one of those people that would use the phone for internet, texting,probably not emailing.I'm interesting in what you guys' batter life is.Like if you had 3g off and all those battery saving tips.Like manual switching 3g on when needed etc.Since I want an accurate time to go by because I'm going to do the exact thing when I get mine.Using battery saving tips for max.As well if any hardcore power saving iphone users can post their times as well since I can't find anything on the web relating to that.

However, maybe it's just in my head. What are your experiences with battery life after upgrading to 2.2? And please, don't make silly "I surfed the web for 12 hours and still have 25% left" claims Also, I'm not interested in other ROMs, as I want a clean sense experience with no modifications (as close as possible to the way HTC made it)So - 2.2 and battery life: same, worse or better than on 2.1 that came with your Desire?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhat started as a discussion over at XDA-Developers to try and resolve serious lag problems that some users experienced with their DHD is now proving to be a resolution to most of the problems reported with this device. Apparently turning 'usb debugging mode' ON is the resolution. The thread was first started by a user who noticed that whenever he was experiencing lag issues an Android process called /INIT was taking anywhere from 70% to 100% of his CPU usage. /INIT is a core process to the Android bootup sequence which should go 'dormant' after the bootup itself. What many users noticed after this was found is that whenever the lag problems started /INIT would take some 90% of the phone's CPU usage and not go back to its 'dormant' state. Even when the phone was idle and not being used. After applying the fix many people are reporting the phone running as smooth as they have even seen it running. Also users are reporting that recording video is no longer jerky and they can browse through the gallery smoothly and with no delays. The more relevant yet, and what may prove to be the best contribution from all this, is that some users are now reporting really amazing battery life performance. Its important to say that the so-called 'bug' doesnt seem to be HTC related but rather an Android 2.2 issue, as the performance issues are also being reported on other handsets running the latest Google OS - with some sources reporting that Google is soon to release an update to Froyo 2.2, possibly to resolve this bug. View 36 Replies View RelatedSo after all the horror stories about battery life I was kinda worried about my new Desire especially as I am a full brightness, 3G loving kinda man. But having got the phone on saturday, I have found it quite good. I mean, I played with it almost constantly for about 8 hours, and I still had 30% charge left.
Normal usage would be maybe an 2 hours or so per day, so i don't think there is any danger I'm gonna run outta juice at work. Also, when sleeping, I don't seem to lose any battery power at all, despite the experiences of others. Anyone else think the battery problems are overblown?
is there some kind of battery indicator somewhere in the HTC desire to show how much percentage of battery life is left and all?
View 5 Replies View RelatedAccording to a lecturer at uni, mobile devices use more power when they have to try and hold a connection (wifi or mobile network) that is further away.
Apparently moving your router closer will allow the device to conserve energy by allowing it to power down it's radio because it's not having to broadcast it's signal as far. This also extends to cell towers - it seems living a long way away from one will make your phone work harder to keep a 3G/EDGE/GPRS signal and thus wastes battery. I'm inclined to take his word for it, what with a PhD under his belt on the subject!
Heres a new battery saving tip
I think this holds some truth, when I was in London over the summer I swear my battery used to die so much quicker because it kept having to try desperately to hold onto weak signals being blocked by all the built up areas. Not a lot anyone can do about it but it might go some way to explaining the differences in battery life people are reporting.
