HTC EVO 4G :: Switching To Sprint

May 21, 2010

I have recently gotten interested in the Android OS.Everything just seems a whole lot better than the iPhone OS.So right now, I have a 3GS on ATT.I REALLY want to get the Evo 4G.I can sell my iPhone anywhere from $400-$450 because its in MINT condition.So that would cover the early term. fee on ATT and the phone cost at Best Buy/Shack. I have been with an iPhone since late 08 and have had it jailbroken since day 1.I am loving my iPhone, but its getting a bit old and Android seems to provide that "wow" factor and the "new phone" factor with each Update.I am ready to pull the trigger right now and sell this iPhone before the "new" iPhone is announced/released. But that brings me to my next few questions.

-Should I maybe see what the new iPhone will bring?

-Is AT&T going to get its 'flagship' Android phone with the power of the Evo and the Incredible? Streak? Aero? HTC?Another factor on the Evo.My nickname is Evo, so kinda goes hand n hand. (hint my username haha)Sorry for the long post and the questions,I just want to know that I am making a decision that I end up regretting.

HTC Hero :: Switching To Sprint

Jul 6, 2010

It's time for my family to get new phones, and I like the price of Sprint's Everything Data Family plan. I've been playing around with a friend's Hero and I really like what I've seen so far. I do have a few questions about it though.Is the Hero still worth it? I know it's a fairly old phone, so how does it stack up to the newer Android phones on the market? I'm already ruling out the EVO because I just can't get on board with its size. It just seems a bit gaudy for me.I'm too frugal to buy a phone before I'm eligible for an upgrade. And I've read at a few places that the Hero is pretty close to being obsolete (not getting an official 2.2 upgrade). So would it be wise to buy the Hero with a new contract, knowing I'd have to be with it for the next 2 years. I don't know anything about rooting or modifying phones. How does that work? Would rooting and installing custom ROMs delay the phone's obsolescence?I guess my main concern is that I don't want to commit to a phone that may not hold up over the next few years.

Sprint HTC Hero : Switching ROMs On Mac / Fresh 1.1 To 2.0c

Mar 26, 2010

I have my Hero rooted with Fresh 1.1. I love it, but I have a few questions for the future.

1- I recently switched from a PC to a Mac. If I want to switch ROM's or go back to stock, can I do this on a mac? Or do I have to use a Windows pc?

2- I was interested in switching from Fresh 1.1 to Fresh 2.0c, but I'm a bit confused. Do I have to go back to stock, then root and flash 2.0c? Or can I flash it on top of 1.1?

Sprint HTC Hero :: Save Home Screen Configuration When Switching To LauncherPro?

Nov 16, 2010

I've downloaded Launcher Pro, I currently still have ADW installed as well. When I use LauncherPro my home screen (and other screens) are not set up the way I currently have them. I spent a lot of time setting my current screens so they are exactly the way I want them. Any way to save that config when switching to LauncherPro? It does seem faster so I want to give it a shot, but I'm dreadig setting everything up again- widgets, apps, etc.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Switching To Sprint Is Hero Their 2nd Best Phone?

Jul 6, 2010

I'm moving over to Sprint.I'd rather not pay the $10 4G fee (or whatever you want to call that $10 fee), so I'll probably stick with a 3G phone.Is the Hero the best option? What I really need the phone to be able to do is voice calling, text, email, web browsing, etc. I'm not a power user, so I don't think I'd use the full power of the Evo anyway, so that's another reason to stick with the Hero.And if I understand correctly, I'd be eligible for upgrade pricing after 1yr with Sprint.

HTC 4G :: Switching From Blackberry To EVO

May 18, 2010

I was hoping to get some of your opinions regarding a decision I have to make. My Sprint upgrade has come and passed,and I am really hoping to get a new phone in the next few months.I currently have a Blackberry Curve 8330,and it's my first smartphone and it's been pretty wonderful, although I do notice it's slow sometimes.For my next phone,I was considering the EVO or the Blackberry Slider (9800) that's supposedly coming to Sprint in the Fall. The main problem I have is that I can't compare my experience with the BB to anything, so I can't really speak to how good it is, etc.Everything about the EVO sounds good, but I'm just worried what exactly I'll be missing leaving Blackberry.Excuse my ignorance, but I'm not even sure how email is handled on any other phone besides a Blackberry.I lurked on some BB forums and they all talk about how great the Blackberry "push" messaging system is, but would the EVO/android/Sense UI provide a similar experience?

HTC EVO 4G :: Likely Switching From IPhone To EVO

Jul 30, 2010

I just joined the forum (actually typing this up on an iPhone 3G, ha) and I'm highly considering making the switch. At first I just wanted out because AT&T's network is so god awful in NYC but when I started to look into the phones and plans I got a little excited about it. With my girlfriends discount we can get a pretty phenomnal deal when compared to AT&T and Android defenitly has some perks when compared to iOS.First off, my girlfriend is concerned that the quality of the service won't be any better. Can anybody speak to the quality of voice and data services in Manhattan? I'd ask a friend but I honestly don't know anybody on the network in NYC. Just to clarify, I'm referring to the 3G network.

Were any of you former iPhone users also mac users? My only real concerns with switching phones is how well the iPhone syncs up with my mac. I know it's not possible for Android to totally stack up but I'm just wondering if it offers anything decent on the syncing front. Is there any kind of front end software? How do you get music on this beast?

Android :: Switching Launcher Pro

I've got a short question: currently I'm running adw.launcher but I want to try launcher pro ... So my question is: WHen I install launcherpro and set it as default launcher, should I uninstall adw.launcher to have better performance? And if yes, are my settings and homescreens kept when I want to switch back to adw.launcher some time? I read about performance issues here somewhere, when adw.launcher with 5 full homescreens is running in background and somewhere, people stated one should remove all widgets from the homescreen before switching to a new launcher.

In the middle of the night I hear a voice saying "Go 100 yards and turn left." so voyager has an exit option in the menu. But what about other apps? They must surely be using up memory and battery power..?

Android :: Speakerphone Switching App

Oct 20, 2010

Is there an app that automatically switches from speakerphone to ear piece based on the proximity detector?

I think it would be useful if there was an app that starts when in phone mode, and detects when the phone is being held to my ear and automatically switches from speaker to ear piece and back as the screen turns off or on based on the proximity detector.

With the more and more frequent state laws on hands free cell phone use while driving, something like this could be quite useful. I, for one would be willing to pay for something like this

If you hold down the home button, a folder pops up containing all active applications. You can very easily switch back and forth between open apps this way. I have been using this function to switch between my calorie counter and weight watchers diary since neither have all the functionality I need at the moment.

Motorola Droid X :: Switching To X

Aug 21, 2010

I just convinced Verizon to send me an X to replace my second Inc due to horrendous voice quality issues. Hopefully this switch works out because I was very impressed with the unit I tested a few weeks ago.Anyway, there's 2 questions I need answers for and was hoping someone could help me out.

1) Is the standard battery good enough to get through a days usage with heavy call volume? My phone is for business purposes and I'm on it a lot....several hours each day. My Inc never makes it through the day. Do I need an extended battery or will the OEM unit be fine?

2) When using the GPS, does the voice prompt switch over to your BT headset if you're in a call? I LOVE Google Maps, but the voice prompts come through my headset during a call and are extremely loud and distracting. Does the X do this as well? If not, I might be able to return the Garmin that I just bought (and hate) and go back to using the amazing Google Maps again.

Android :: Switching-off/re-booting

I was just messsing about and flipping through screens and settings and noticed that the phones uptime was at 9 days. This is because at night I either tend to leave it on wifi or just put it to aeroplane mode.

But I was just wondering if there is any benefit to the phones OS or memory if it is occasionally switched off and rebooted? ( apart from saving a little battery obviously). Or is it perfectly acceptable to just keep it running if everything's ok?
