Cache partition in our phones is too small. In AOSP and AOKP and stock roms, dalvik cache is always generated in /data no matter whether its a system app. any way to achieve this in cm roms?

May 14, 2010My wife has a completely stock 1.5 Eris. She's getting a low storage notification. I looked at the system setting and her internal storage is completely maxed out, but the SD card is 90% available. I've mounted her phone to my laptop and tried moving files around, but nothing is moving. She only has pictures on her phone, not a single song, movie, video, etc. How do I get the data moved to the SD card?

HTC Eris :: Low Storage On SD Card?
Aug 22, 2010So I have been quite perplexed as to how my SD card was filling up so quickly. I would try out a ROM for a while, make a Nand backup, have about three of those on the phone at a time, always making a copy onto my computer. And yet it seemed like every time I deleted old Nands and ROM from my phone, my space continued to get smaller and smaller, until today I was down to 900 and some odd megabytes. I don't have that much music or other media stuff on my phone, so I plugged my phone in, went through and deleted more music, videos, etc. off of my phone. Turns out, while I had my phone mounted (I use a Mac), and I dragged files from the phone into the trash can in the dock-- it wasn't actually deleting the files from my phone, but merely putting them in the "Trash" folder on my SD card. So I went through using Astro and deleted everything in there. AND I'm back up to fish gigs. not sure if anyone else might have made the same mistake, or if I completely outed myself as a NEW B, Whew, what a relief though.

I believe that has to do mainly with how many apps you have installed, although sometimes (since updating the other day) the number seems to change when I don't delete or download a new app. Maybe I'm going crazy. I cleared all of the cache from the applications and it still remains. I have a decent amount of apps downloaded but I used to have a lot more downloaded and never had this problem before.

Aug 15, 2010I rooted a few weeks back and very happy with everything apart from I keep getting low on space notification for my phone storage, when I rooted I didn't bother with partitioning my sd card as read about Mod Install Location which basically forces apps to be installed onto the sd card and didn't think I would need to install anything on my internal storage but it seems I keep getting low storage notification. So I am assuming some of the apps I install have to use a little bit of the internal memory? I used Cache Mate and checked all the apps etc. So considering doing the partitioning to trick my phone to think it has more space but wondering will I lose everything or have to back it up? Or any other tips to free up internal space as it seems ROM I am using (neophyte 1.6) didn't free up much space.

Jul 28, 2010When I look at the settings and "SD card and phone storage" option I see the different types of storage. Based on what I see, please verify the following assumptions are correct. The external SD card is obviously the one I added. I assume it can be used to store media files (via USB, direct write on a PC, etc.). I read until Froyo we won't be able to install apps on this card.
The internal SD card is what is built into the phone for apps and other things those apps write to the phone.
Looks like Google Listen writes to this area (can't make it write to the external SD and not sure why). It appears that the only things writing to there are my camera and of course any music, pics, or videos I load on there directly. Nothing else seems to make use of it. The internal phone storage is for things like the OS and is pretty much off limits. When I go into the "My Files" app on the phone it dumps me into the home directory which happens to be /sdcard. I assume this is the internal SD card? Under that directory it also has "/sd" which appears to be my external SD card. Why would they make it look like "/sd" is a subdirectory of "/sdcard" when it's not?
