HTC Droid Eris :: Time Widget Too Fast / Slow By 1 Hr / How To Fix?
Dec 10, 2009
I live in Glendale, Arizona. My clock widget is too fast or too slow by 1 hr. I went ot the VZW Store and they told me it is a glitch with the Eris software. It is registering as Glendale, California making it 1 hour behind and when it is an hour ahead it registering the next town over which is Peoria, but the phone thinks it is Peoria, Illinois. I am a little turned off because if the GPS is turned on this problem should not occur. When I try an set the time to my home location instead of current location, it does not allow me to click it.

When I originally used my eris for tethering it was fast almost as fast as my wireless. Past 2 days the wireless has been down due to a storm and I was forced to use phone for internet after not using it for months. Its slow almost dial up slow, even tho the phone shows its in 3G the browsing and download speeds are painfully slow. By the way I am using easy tether.

I've noticed that lately, my download speeds on my rooted Droid (running BB 0.5 most recently, though this "problem" occurred with BB 0.4 and LFY 1.6 as well) have not been stellar, though my upload speeds seem fine:
Could this be caused by the baseband? Im running C_01.43.01P. Prior to that, I was running (I think) 3E, which came with the phone, and worked fine with BB 0.4 but when the updated one came out I updated it since, hey, it's newer right? Anyway, (1) is this certainly the problem? and (2) if I choose to, how can I safely roll back to the 3E baseband?

I have had my Note 2 since last spring, I noticed in September that when using my original charge cord (plugged to wall) it would only charge when held in certain angles and very slow, I couldn't use while charging as it would drain it. I tried using my boyfriends nexus charger and that seemed to work. It was still slow but at least I didn't have to be constantly moved to certain angles (still discharged if used while on charger though).
If I plug my phone in at night (let's say at 14% battery life) by morning, over 8 hrs later, it's only at 60 % and then drains completely in 4-5 hours, while I'm at work and not even using it, if I'm using it it goes down 2% a minute.
This is getting so frustrating, I have no clue what's wrong. I've done a factory reset and nothing changed. If I use a universal docking station my phone actually charges very quick, at a normal speed. I'm not sure if it's the battery, usb port, or charger!

Ive noticed now, that after about a week with my Droid Eris, although a love it, it seems to be running much slower than when I bought it. I just created this thread for people to add anything that might help the Eris run as quickly as possible.
1. power phone completely off every couple of days.
2. advanced task manager seems to help
3. clear browser cache!!! - this helped me immensely. Settings>Applications>Manage Apps> then find your browser and clear the cache. do this with other large apps.

Ok - so I took the plunge today and went to the 2.1 leak...installed perfectly thanks to Matlock's guide - LOVE 2.1 - it's awesome!Just have a ONE MAJOR PROB (and a minor one) - my battery is literally draining before my eyes!It will be at 80% and I will load the weather and maybe respond to a text and it will drop to 79%. Then if I just flip screen to screen - another 1% gone in less than 15 secs!!I have searched through the forums but haven't seen if there is a 'fix"I have build 2.26.60534 CL140744 - that's the latest, correct? My Minor issue is signal strength - I use to have 3-4 bars constant and now am lucky if I get 2 - again saw others had the same prob but didn't know if there was a fix besides the *228/2 -I have powered off - taken battery out - that gave it about 10% more juice but still declines rapidly as before.REALLY NEED SOME HELP ON THIS TO PROVE TO MY WIFE I AM NOT A TOTAL IDIOT (please keep those comments to minimum - at least til my problem is fixed) AS "SHE WARNED ME"

I text. A lot. It's very irritating when the keyboard on the Eris can't keep up with how fast I type. I'll be finished with my message, and the last few words take 1-3 seconds to show up, which is fine I suppose. However, when I make some errors, the auto-correct feature doesn't work because apparently my typing speed is too quick for it.
Everything works fine when I type slowly, but that's annoying too.
I barely have any apps besides the stock ones. In running services I only have the calendar, Google Voice, Touch Input, and BatteryTime running. I don't use any app killer, I have animations and haptic feedback turned off. I don't know what else I can do to speed this phone up.
This problem, the lag in switching from portrait to landscape, and the lag with calls is really making me want to sell my Eris and purchase the Incredible, or I may wait until the "Moto Droid X" releases in July....or is that just a rumor?

Before everybody redirects me to the standard "ways to extend your battery life" threads, I believe I've tried all the usual tricks, which is why I'm posting another thread. This is really starting to drive me nuts. Up until a few weeks ago, I was getting good battery life. A couple of days worth with normal usage, which I think is reasonable with all considered. But now, it lasts about half a day, which is obviously not much use when you can only charge it at night.I've been checking the "awake time" and sometimes it just keeps staying high. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. When the awake time is high, it is also warm to the touch, as if it is doing a lot of processing or something.
I've also been using "spare parts" to see what appears under "partial awake". I have never seen anything under this which accounts for the awake time. For example, the awake time might say "15 hrs", but "partial awake" in spare parts shows the biggest thing as being "Android system", but only taking "2 mins".I have (as far as I can tell) disabled the standard HTC messages app, and am now using Handcent SMS.I have turned off bluetooth and GPS, but leave wifi and mobile data on. I know switching these off saves power, but I've always had them on without as much drain as I do now.I have done a factory reset, and reinstalled all my usual apps, and left off any which I don't really need. All seemed well for a few days, but then the drain started again.
I have a feeling my battery drain is due to an update to an app, but as it's not consistent, I can't figure out which app or update it could be.As it is, with the battery lasting for less time than I am out in the day, it makes it a really rubbish phone, and just not fit for purpose. Is there any other way, other than using "spare parts", that I can tell what is using my power?

My Eris does not seem to be taking advantage of the WiFi speed capabilities of my home network. I just tested my network in multiple ways. I'm getting good connection speeds on all devices EXCEPT my Eris. Here's what I did:
1. I went to Speakeasy.net and tested the hard wired internet connection speed to my PC. The result was 22 mbps down.
2. I tested the wireless connection speed to my laptop, also via Speakeasy.net. Again, 22 mbps.
3. I tested the wireless connection speed to my wife's iMac, also via Speakeasy.net. Once again, 22 mbps
4. I tested the connection speed on my Eris (repeatedly) via a speed test app that I downloaded from the Market. Only 2.5 mbps.
5. I loaded the Speakeasy.net website in my Eris' Android browser and ran the same test. Only 2.9 mbps. So, all wired and wireless devices in the house are getting ~ 22 mbps, while my Eris is getting significantly less. Specifications:
-Eris is running default Android 1.5 OS
- Home wireless router is a Netgear Wireless-N Router model # WNR2000 running in WPA-PSK [AES] security mode. "Mode" is set to the highest -- "Up to 300 mbps."

Anyone else had the experience of internet speed with PDAnet being maple syrup slow? I mean, obviously the Eris is not the fastest phone anyway, but there are, confusingly, times when it's actually quite fast. As a corollary to this question, are there ways to increase 3G/tethering speed?

I've had Eris since last Christmas, so I say it's been almost 9 months or so. The biggest complain I have with this phone is how ridiculously slow the phone is. I was getting really tired of all the lags that the phone had. The major lags that made me very impatient were: 1. Phone dial lag 2. GPS lag (I had to wait 25 seconds for options to pop out after pressing "menu" button while the GPS was on.) 3. Whenever phone call comes in, it shows the digits first, and 7 seconds later, the names appeared. None of these problems were solved even after getting the phone replaced twice. I called the Verizon to see if I could get a replacement with another phone, however even after 5 attempts with various of speech techniques (even I've gotten upto a point where the rep offered me to switch to another phone) the answer was "No, you are stuck with that phone regardless whether you like it or not. Eventually the universal rooting method came along and I've rooted my phone. Code...

So lately my Eris has been running extremely slow. About a week ago I got a notification for "Internal memory is getting low." So after reading through several threads of the same topic and doing all the suggested actions (delete old text messages, uninstall unnecessary apps, clearing the cache for applications) my internal phone storage now says that there is 45.61 MB free. Yet, I still have not noticed any improvement in performance.
For example, I use Handcent to text message, and lately I have been unable to open it without it force closing every time. I've tried removing it as the default and using the native SMS program, but when I go to compose a new message it won't bring in any of my contacts when I go to select one. It just stays at a loading screen and then force closes. Also, it shows the phone number of an incoming text instead of the contact name as its stored in my phone book, so I pretty much have to guess who's number it is. Any thoughts on why it would do that? The dialer is just as bad, and since I don't have any of my friend's phone numbers memorized the phone is pretty much useless now and unable to perform the most basic of functions, using it to make calls.
I'm at my wit's end pretty much, the only other thing that I can think of is performing a factory reset. Does anyone have any alternative suggestions or experience as to whether a full reset actually helps?
My phone is not rooted. I know, I know. Rooting will improve performance, but it seems like a hassle to me and I'd rather not have to deal with it (at least not yet).

few weeks ago I encountered a problem. My Android SDK 1.5 emulator became very slow and CPU consuming. This happened earlier, but was irregular just removing AVDs usually helped. Few weeks ago I installed Android SDK 1.6, tried to move my dev environment there and noticed that emulator runs very slowly. I rolled back to 1.5 and noticed that the same problem is there. What's going on: - emulator startup is pretty slow; - sometimes emulator hangs on startup; - sometimes after startup is complete I see Force close/Wait dialog for some Android applications/services (Alarm clock, messaging) - applications inside the emulator run MUCH slower than they ran before, I see delays in response even in launcher, when I just switching between icons with arrow keys (at this time CPU usage according to the task manager is from 35 to 50%, i.e. one core is completely busy). - now, when I'm typing this message, emulator (clean, newly created AVD, I haven't installed nothing there, just out of the box) occupied 50% of my CPU (and 140MB of RAM). Hardware: Intel Core2Duo T7500 (2.2GHz) + 2GB RAM. OS: Vista I don't have any problems with 1.6 on Linux (Kubuntu 7.10), emulator starts quickly, responds in a flash, and seldom consumes more than 20% of CPU time (usually in case my application is working with DB).

Ive had my evo since day one.Absolutely love it.It's just that within the last month it's been taking awhile to open anything. If I click on mail it seems as though it stalls for awhile, then "loading" screen then it opens.Same thing with the messenger to check my text.Again with the loading screen which stays open longer than it use to. Ive tried to reboot here and there but it doesn't seem to make any difference.I just miss the way my phone use to run and open everything up so quickly.Im not complaining, if this is normal than o.k.I can wait a few more seconds. Is it that I have too many apps.Ive used up most of my space on my sd card, is that it?I have my phone stock. Is it time to root and will this solve my problem?

Why is this phone so slow that you cant even post a message to this forum from it? I tried posting a message to this forum and the keyboard is so slow you can only type like 1 letter per second. Have the same issue with other forums as well. This phone is garbage.

I am just wondering if it is possible to put live wall papers without custom rom? I am rooted, I have tried the new fresh and older versions, they slow my phone done, and it freezes all the time. I am on a rooted/stock version on 2.1 and would like to use live wall papers still? Do I have a chance? I don't want to just flash one of the lwp updates from the rom section without asking here.

I have been reading a lot about roms for the eris the past few days. my girlfriend has been getting frustrated with her eris's lag and how much it has seemed to slow down over the course of having it. I was just wondering what would be a stable, fast rom to make her phone snappy and her happy? I don't have any root experience yet so I'm looking for a solid out of the box rom to start with. All i would want is it to be fast and functional (so she doesn't get mad at me for messing up her phone). I've read about EE and WW. I read that EE isnt' very fast, would WW be a good choice, or is there a simpe fast one that I haven't read about yet?

Hi There! I'm new here although I've been lurking for a while. Great info here! So my phone has been super slow, lagging, kicking me out of the internet, no calls when people say they call etc. I talked to Verizon and they want me to do a hard reset. Is this necessary?? It scares me to possibly lose all my stuff. So if I need to do this then what do I need to make sure is backed up??
Would love some help with this b/c my phone is really starting to frustrate me. My husband was in the store yesterday, sent me a txt and when he got back in the car asked me why I didn't respond. By the time I got his text, wrote back and it finally sent he was back in the car! So yeah lagging is such a great thing!
