HTC Droid Eris :: Solar Spare Battery - $30?

Just saw this on Gizmodo, it's a solBAT charger for any USB device... it's a 1500 mA battery that pumps 5V through a USB hookup. It's not exactly a perfect solution to anything (especially since it seems like it would be most useful in a car, which is when you'd be able to plug into the cigarette lighter anyway), but still: you can essentially boost your battery using only the sun, and it's only $30... pretty cool!
Thought I'd post it here for anybody with environmentalist inclinations who's having battery problems... or if you're like me, and you're planning some extended hiking/camping trips for the summer, and were trying to figure out how you were going to keep your phone alive for more than a couple of days

Looking forward to warmer weather in the NE US and thinking about nice long bike rides. I am psyched to have such a cool little GPS/computer/map system and plan to take the Droid on long rides. Some will be 3+ hours and I don't want to worry about running out of juice. Researching it looks like I have a few options and wanted to know what you all think. Mostly I think the droid will just sit in my Jersey pocket with screen off but tracking GPS. Occasionally I will check maps.
1- buy a spare battery - weight- not much, 1300 mAh - Downside, sometime during the ride I will need to swap batteries and restart GPS apps that I might be running. This would be really annoying so I think this is out as an option.
2- battery extender like Satechi iCel 4400 mAh Battery Extender. Pricey but would certainly give me enough ride time & gets excellent reviews
3 - Solio H1000 Universal Hybrid Charger Not as much power as the battery extender but I really like the idea of charging while I am out riding, although it seems to charge pretty slowly and needs direct sunlight. Even without serious sun it would probably provide enough of a charge for all but the longest rides. Gets "ok" reviews

so I downloaded Spare Parts and changed the window and transition animations to FAST, and it has been going noticeably quicker. My only question is if changing the speed will affect my battery life?

anyone else have this battery charger? and is it taking 8 hours to fully charge the battery? this is crazy. this isnt the exact one i bought, but its the same kind. supposedly mine didnt come from hong kong. if anyone knows of a good battery charger, let me know. I am planning on getting the EVO come June 4th to replace my HD2, and I am wondering if there are any solar chargers available on the market for this unit. Since I will be having a case on the unit, I dont want to be having to open the back cover all the time to replace the battery whenever its dead. maybe a good external battery backup might do the job.

I always hear people saying how amazing this app is and how to diagnose what is eating your battery. however I for the life of me can't figure it out. I bet it is super simple, but I just can't see it. Where do I go to see what programs maybe keeping my phone awake...what usage do I look at, what do I press? Also, what settings should I use for it? I am about to go into Verizon today, because my phones voltage is above 4v (I heard that when it is in the 4 range, you may have a bad battery also...), but I want to see the amazingess of this APP that everyone seems to know but me

I read online you can turn on battery percentage through Spare Parts. BB1 does have Spare Parts installed, but I cannot find the feature. I also found Spare Parts in the Marketplace, but can't download it. Any suggestions? Main feature I want in BB.

I was an unfortunate early owner of a Samsung Instinct (returned it lol). The interesting thing about it was that it came with a convenient battery charger/case that I think would be perfect for the Evo. I posted this at another forum as well. I am not spamming, I just want to sell this because I no longer need it. I'm not sure if this is in the correct area, I am sorry if it is in the wrong area, but I am selling an Eris battery that I bought as an extra. I swapped out to a Droid and forgot about the battery. It was put on our bill, so it's paid for and I would like to pass some savings on to a member here. I only used this battery twice, two days. Forgive me if this has been addressed somewhere but there's a ton of threads that say 3g and battery so I couldn't find what I was looking for.Anyway, WHY does 3G use so much battery? I can see why if I'm on the internet or downloading files etc but when it's simply on in the background not doing a thing, why does that drain the battery so much??

I'm new here and a new Eris owner had it now for about a week and love it so far.I've read through several of the threads here about the battery and best ways to conserve, and I've tried to apply them (and I appreciate the info I've been able to find here).I'm conditioning the battery now (fully drained/charged it a few times), have set the brightness down lower, turned off bluetooth & wifi, set email checking to 2 hrs rather than 15 minutes.My question is about the effect on the battery of using facebook and peep/twitter as apps running on their own home screen.I have each of these two on their own screen so I can see updates but is this more draining on the battery than instead just having the apps as icons and then opening them up (meaning does this mean they are open all the time and draining battery)? Also, I have 3 email accounts setup but set to check every 2 hrs. Would this be more draining than just 1 email that checks every 30 minutes?

Which of these batteries do you suggest for my Eris? I am still in the 30 day period (and plan to upgrade if a newer phone is released within the period), but after that I am pretty sure I am going to get an upgraded battery.
The current options are:
2x BATTERY+DESKTOP CHARGER FOR VERIZON HTC DROID ERIS - eBay (item 280468408194 end time Mar-22-10 19:05:38 PDT)
or
Innocell 1750mAh Slim Extended Life Battery
The Seido one is larger and has a reputation, whereas the ebay one is slightly larger, but comes with the charger so that I can carry two. With the Seido, I would probably just do a complete replacement and not carry the extra. The ebay on is also vastly cheaper. <--not too big a factor, as if I keep the phone I will not cheap out on arguably one of the most important parts. However, as a colege student, the cheaper price is nice.

i searched and found nothing helpful...but i keep GPS off. i only check google maps (latitude) every now and then, but i always close it when i'm dunzo by backing out, and then task killing. however, under battery usage, my maps is at 87%, and has been for 2 days. what?!?! i don't even use it! wtfs it doing?

I was having major issues with battery drain on 2.1 (second leak) and after reading some threads here I removed the HTC battery widget. This appears to have solved the problem. Apparently the phone was not going to sleep when I had the HTC widget running. The awake time was nearly what the up time was. Without the HTC widget I do not have this issue.
Has anyone ran the Android Battery Widget on 2.1 and does it create the same problem?

I use to get a low battery alert warning at 15%, 10% and again at 5%. However, now I am not getting any alerts and my phone just display ready to shut off as I am using it. Is there a settings area that I inadvertantly changed? Has amyone else experienced this?

Just received my replacement Eris on Friday the new one already has the 50% without signal bug and has frozen up on me today several times.The battery is discharging at an ultra high rate and my Up time is 4:04 while my awake time is 3:58 as you can see not much difference between the two.I have killed all of the apps I can see in running apps and services.What could the problem be?I am a newbie.

As a Verizon wireless employee I get to play around a lot with the phone and today I found that the stock battery out of the HTC Ozone (which is a 1500 mah) fits under the battery cover of ourEris. It is a hair thicker, but it fits.

I read a few threads about better batteries for the eris, and I though several people recommended the touch pro 2 battery, since it is 1500mAh. So I found a deal on an OEM one for my phone. Unfortunately it does not fit well. Although it is not much thicker then the eris battery the corners are not rounded so the back does not fit on all the way.
What do you guys think should I try one of the 1500 generics that say they are for the eris, or stick with my stock battery?
The middle pics are with the touch pro2 battery and the last is the stock eris battery.

I've noticed that for the past few days I have been experiencing lower than normal battery performance with my Eris. I checked the battery sonsumption and it says that it is the camera that is doing it. OK. So I force kill everything (reinstalled a task killer) and opened the camera and closed it again. I always exit an app with the back button, not the home button. Still the problem persists. I noticed that while it was charging last night that the camera was using 100% of my battery. So my conclusion is that whenever I charge my Eris the camera runs in the background even after I take it off of the charger. Is anyone having this problem?
