Dec 7, 2009my girlfriend has this phone...i havent been able to try fixing it hands on but she wouldnt know how to find an answer so i tried. apparently when she uses the keyboard. it doesnt switch to landscape mode and i'd like to know how to fix that.

Jul 10, 2010Very happy with the i9000 in the last few days of ownership, using launcher pro in place of stock but otherwise mostly unchanged. One issue we have is that after being at home overnight on WiFi, the phone doesn't automatically re enable 3g. To restore the mobile data you have to go into the network operator selection and re select Optus (our carrier here in Aus). Leaving it on auto doesn't help, and you have to manually choose it each time (ie: it "forgets" what I selected or something). Using apndroid to mangle the apn on/off doesn't help. Restarting the phone fixes it but obviously not ideal.
Have tried entering the code to change it to gsm only instead of the default wcdma/gsm auto with no benefit. When the mobile data is working, it happily switches between 2g and 3g, but will sometimes simply stop working as per the wifi overnight problem and I have to manually select the operator again. This happens very randomly and can go several days without drama, our only a few minutes. While this data won't connect, the phone capabilities aren't affected and you can make and receive calls fine. In fact if you dial a number it sometimes causes the data to re connect.

Jun 5, 2010I have a verizon fios wireless router, model MI424WR, and i am having trouble maintaining a wireless connection with my eris. i have no problem with the initial connection, but after a few minutes the connection no longer works. my eris still shows that it is connected to my wireless network, but if i attempt to open a webpage, use twitter, etc it says that there is no connection. i changed my eris settings to never let the wireless sleep, but it has not seemed to work. any ideas on how to fix this.

Jul 29, 2010It's too bad, really. I love the phone. I just can't afford it the data plan anymore. So, tomorrow or Saturday, I am switching to the Samsung Reality. From what I heard, it's a good phone, and it has quite a few features I have come to love on the Eris.
Hopefully, when I get a job during the school year, I will be able to afford the data again. I plan on keeping my Eris and going back to it when I have a bit more money.
I just wanted to say, until I return, thanks for all your help with this phone and the tips to make it not suck. I'll probably lurk on here and post maybe once every so often. This really is one of the best communities I have found on the Interwebz.
HTC Droid Eris :: Wifi Won't Reconnect Automatically When In Range Or By Enabling Wifi
Sep 8, 2010It's done this twice now (before and after factory reset). 2.1 OTA, not rooted.
Whenever I turn on the wifi, or I become in range of my WPA2 network, it doesn't always connect. I say "always" because it seems to be random. If I toggle wifi on or off, it doesn't always connect. Sometimes it connects after 30+ seconds. Every other device connects just fine.
The only sure way to get it to connect is to force it to rescan, usually by going to Settings and displaying all SSIDs in range. THEN it connects, always and immediately.
The even sillier thing is, it will alert me of open networks, but never connect to my own saved network.

Dec 4, 2009Just got my Eris last night and am trying to figure it out. I was using a BB curve so this is different. I am following all battery tips but have a different question. When I am on a call if someone beeps in it is automatically switching me over to this new call. How do I stop that?

Dec 24, 2009I just picked up the Droid Eris and am having serious reception issues when at work, which is here I am most of the time. I upgraded from an LG Chocolate, and did miss or have a dropped call for 2 years. After getting the Droid Eris I missed 3 calls the first day with the phone in my office. I receive adequate 1x coverage, but only spotty 3g coverage. My co-workers all have iPhones and have the same issue, but they have the ability to manually turn off the 3g, which then allows them to send and receive calls and texts without any problems using the at&T 1x network. Is there a way (or an app) that allows a user to turn off the 3g and only receive 1x coverage for the Droid Eris? I don't think turning off the mobilenetwork accomplishes this goal, but would like to know for sure.

Jan 6, 2010First, I've read all the "I switched from Eris to Droid" posts. Found them to be informative, most a bit dated.
Second, I've had my Eris since the first day it came out. I went to the store expecting to buy a Droid on the first day it came out. It happened to be right when I needed a new phone, I didn't have an existing phone or plan, so I was free do to what I wanted. Didn't know anything about an Eris. Went to the store and was unimpressed by the Droid's keyboard. Plus it felt blocky and I didn't like that the sliding keyboard felt like it was going to slide out all the time. Picked up the Eris and between the size, the form factor, and Sense UI's 7 screens and widgets I decided that the $100 savings was money well pocketed. It didn't take me long to start getting annoyed with it though. The battery life, the lag and other issues mounted. Then Sense kept re-booting, as did the phone. So I went back to the store inside my 30 days. I got a new one and an "extension" on my return ability.
The second phone was great...for a while. Lag returned, in a big way. In the meantime, the Droid got 2.0.1 and is getting 2.1 soon. The Eris should have 2.1 by the end of the month, but I'm not convinced it will solve my issues. I was in the mall again today and spent another 15 minutes or so with the Droid. The screen has always impressed me, but the speed just blows me away. I hate the fact that it takes Handcent 10 seconds to load, the fact that the landscape keyboard is slow in loading, then laggy. That the menus, etc. are just slow. Slow, slow, slow, and did I mention, slow? I've tweaked this phone 9 ways from Sunday, have tried all manner of task killers, task panel, startup manager, etc. I've cleared cache, re-booted, etc. This phone, in current form, lags. Now 2.1 is coming with Sense, and that may help. But the Droid's screen....oh, that screen.So here are my questions:
1) I hated the keyboard, and after using the phone for about an hour and a half in total, still don't like it. I know you don't have to use it, are there those that liked it better with time?
2) Does the sliding keyboard "loosen up" with time ? It didn't feel impressively locked closed to begin with, I don't want to feel like it's going to fall open in my hand.
3) How's the battery life? With my Eris, I can get a full day of GOOD usage without having to re-charge. The Droid?
4) I've heard issues with phone sound quality. Are those common, or isolated?
5) How's the screen in sunlight?
HTC Incredible :: Always Picks The Towers Furthest Away?
Aug 5, 2010Hello all, has anyone else had an issue with the Dinc connecting to towers far away from where your at? The main screen kept giving me the weather for two different towns which are about 10 and 15 miles from me. I thought that was odd. Then I grabbed that antenna app and it showed what the weather was showing, I was connected to towers far away from my place even though there is a tower less than two miles from me. I do suffer from poor call quality even when outside. Is there a setting to keep me from connecting to the towers that are too far away? I usually have zero bars showing on the phone and a signal that averages -90db to -100db. I have used the *228 weekly but that hasn't changed anything. Any ideas are welcome! Thanks.

Sep 20, 2012I seem to have a weird problem on my HTC Sensation. I have been noticing that when the phone switches from Wifi to 'H', the mobile data stops working. I can see the signal bars so no problems with making calls, text etc. I have tried putting phone into airplane more, resetting mobile data and a couple of apps that reset the mobile data stack. None of that has worked. The only way I have made it work is by restarting the phone - quite frustrating. The mobile data then starts working. It has only happened when 'H' is displayed as the mobile data.

Can't press the small wifi button on dock it will not recognize on the other hand i can press the Bluetooth without any problems and when i go to the settings the small _OFF_ button will not recognize me pressing it.

Jul 26, 2010I go out into cities alot, and I usualy grab a coffee in either a Costa, or a Nero. These both have BTFON WiFi hotspots. At the moment I can connect to these as I have BT Openworld at home. However, my BT contract is being cancelled tomorrow, they're bloody expensive, and as a result, my access to these hotspots will stop unless I subscribe to thier BTFON service.
If I stop my Desire connecting to these by switching off WIFI, will the phone then automatically switch to 3G for internet access?
