HTC Droid Eris :: Wifi Won't Reconnect Automatically When In Range Or By Enabling Wifi
Sep 8, 2010
It's done this twice now (before and after factory reset). 2.1 OTA, not rooted.
Whenever I turn on the wifi, or I become in range of my WPA2 network, it doesn't always connect. I say "always" because it seems to be random. If I toggle wifi on or off, it doesn't always connect. Sometimes it connects after 30+ seconds. Every other device connects just fine.
The only sure way to get it to connect is to force it to rescan, usually by going to Settings and displaying all SSIDs in range. THEN it connects, always and immediately.
The even sillier thing is, it will alert me of open networks, but never connect to my own saved network.

I've been reading the wifi threads on here, the Verizon forums, and the Motorola site forums. I've changed the router settings on my home wifi router according to directions found on those sites. For the first time today, I tried wifi at a different location. It worked perfectly at first, but dropped the connection after about 20 minutes and wouldn't reconnect. It shows that it's connected, but data won't refresh.
So my question is, is the wifi problem with the Droid X something that everyone is afflicted with when trying to hook up to 802.11n routers, or is it only some Droid X's. The 3G signal in my house and at work isn't strong enough for me to download larger files like audio books without timing out. I'm wondering if it's worth trying for a replacement or if I should wait for some kind of software fix. I don't hold out much hope for that anytime soon - the Verizon rep was completely unaware that there was any kind of issue with wifi on the Droid X. I know they are generally clueless, but I would think if it was widespread enough they would have at least heard about it...
After dealing iwth this, I understand why Droid X owners are using 5X as much data as other Verizon smartphone users. We don't have wifi options...

If I'm someplace that has WiFi am I better off enabling that whenever I can instead of using 3G even if I have the phone in standby or will that use more battery? I might check my email and facebook, etc., maybe every half hour and I'm wondering if I will save battery life by enabling WiFi or will that eat more battery?

I'm having an issue with my wifi not connecting. I have to AP's in my house, on different channels. They work perfectly fine. I have the wifi toggle setting on the home screen that I usually press to toggle the wifi on/off. Recently, it hasn't been working after I disconnect from 3G and connect to wifi. It says the wifi is turned on, but it won't connect to either of the remembered APs. The only way to get it to automatically connect is to go to settings and view the list of APs. Only then will it connect to one of the two APs. This is really annoying, as it seemed to only start this recently and nothing has changed. My wifi sleep policy is never to turn off. It's a droid eris with 2.1 OTA. Ran a virus scan, nothing. Any ideas?

I have set up the phone to connect to my home wifi connection and it does this just fine. Once connected I can do everything I wan't. Upload, download, browse and so on.But after a while, once the phone has been asleep, the wifi connection is dropped and the phone drops back onto the cellular data connection. The problem is that once it has done this, the only way to reconnect to the wifi is to switch off wifi and switch it back on again at which point it works fine again until next time it goes to sleep.I have checked the wifi sleep settings etc and this does not help so any clues? How can I persuade this phone to connect to wifi when it's available. Likewise, my other phone (a HTC Desire) will always connect to the wifi if it is in range so I am happy that this is a phone specific issue.

Not sure if any of you guys have the same problem but when I leave my Wifi on all day, and return home from work, my home Wifi never picks back up. When I toggle my Wifi on and off, it picks up again. My signal is always above 1 bar when on Wifi in my house, it just does NOT automatically connect anymore.

I am initiating the design of an application that would require an Android phone to connect to another Android phone via Ad-Hoc networking with or w/o security. I would like to know if Android supports ad-hoc networking. I would also like to know what is the average range of the wifi signal from an Android handset point-to-point with no obstructions. I cannot find any information about this on the web.

I got the Hero on 3UK yesterday. As soon as I booted it up it found a number of wireless networks and I was able to connect to my BeBox with no problems. Later on last night and continuing today, it can't find any networks in range. It shows the BeBox as 'remembered' but not in range. Even tho I'm obviously sitting near it. I've rebooted the phone today and no change. I installed the Fonera application yesterday and thought it might be causing problems so disabled it and still the problem was there.

Quick background, I am still on a $30/month SERO plan with my Touch Pro 2 and waiting to get a $10/24 month discount but Sprint has put a halt to all discounts for the time being, so I'm going to try when the iPhone 4 comes out and when Verizon gets their Droid X. I was going to sell my EVO but it seems I might as well keep it since I'm going to eventually use it.
So in the meantime, I'm going to hold onto the TP2/SERO and use the EVO when I am within a WiFi network. Thing is sometimes I want to bring the EVO out, so I thought maybe I could open up a WiFi hotspot with HTC's Wifi-Router software and connect to it with the EVO. But the EVO isn't recognizing the WiFi hotspot. My laptop can recognize it though. I tried to add the WiFi network but it'll say "Not in range, remembered".

I have a droid and the range I get with wifi compared to a laptop is horrible. The networks I have tested on are all 802.11g. Is this just normal because of the antenna size on the droid or is there something I can do to improve it? I feel like I have to be right next to the access point to have a good connection.

I'm coming from windows mobile here so I'm not sure if this is an Android thing or the Incredible specifically, but the bluetooth implementation absolutely sucks. I'm using the phone with the Plantronics 975, which is an absolutely fantastic earpiece. The problem is that it NEVER automatically reconnects to the headset after moving out of range and then back in. I've also verified this with an old motorola headset, so the phone is the problem. With my Touch Pro 2, I could walk outside to my car to get something with the earpiece still in my ear, and the phone would disconnect and then automatically reconnect when I get back inside. Not only does the Incredible not do this, but when I come back in, even after pressing the button on the bluetooth headset (which I didn't have to do on WinMo) it just says "paired but not connected" in bluetooth settings. In order to get the phone to reconnect with the headset, I have to turn bluetooth off, back on, go into wifi settings and click "connect" EVERY SINGLE TIME I go out of range and back in range. Coupled with the infamous lack of touchless voice dialing, I am seriously dissapointed in Android's implementation of bluetooth, and don't understand how Google can put out a phone that sucks so bad as a phone - especially when in many states such as mine, a bluetooth headset is the ONLY legal way to use your phone when you drive. Any ideas how to fix this annoying problem or am I just stuck with it?

Did a search but couldn't see a solution. I have 3 email accounts set up. All of them work for both send and receive while connected to any WiFi. However, when not in range of WiFi I can receive emails but not send.

I realize that it would probably require boosting antenna power and thus reduce battery life but, if I am prepared to accept that, can I programatically extend wifi range?

I recently bought Zync Z930 7" Android tablet. Everything is working fine, except for the WiFi. My router is Belkin G Wireless 40961F. The tablet finds the WiFi and connects to it and works flawlessly. But as soon as I move to upstairs, the connection is lost and it says Wifi Not in Range. I tried changing the pass from WPA to WEP and finally no password at all. Now the connection stays for more time. I tried putting "Keep On Wifi " to " Never (increases data usage) " . The connection says " Good Signal Strength ", but it keeps flashing between "Connecting " and "saved" .
Do I need to contact the vendor ? as I bought it from Ebay, I need to return it ASAP if its a hardware problem. BtW, it says the tab runs on a custom ROM.

Just picked up an unlocked Milestone and I popped in my prepaid T-Mobile card and I have my home WiFi network bur for data on the go I need to use the 3G connection of my iPad via WiFi. Problem is that the WiFi network it creates is an AdHoc one and as I found Android can't connect to AdHoc networks by default. Standard on WinMp and iOS so what possessed them to do that?
After some digging around I found a guide to enable AdHoc on rooted Androphones How to connect an android phone to your ad-hoc wi-fi network | Wissam Idrissi so I spent a few hours rooting and installing the proper apps. No go though, my AdHoc network does appear in the list with MySSD : "Not in range, remembered" but it never connects. Has anyone managed to connect to an AdHoc network on a Milestone with 2.1?

I have a moto droid 1 and my wifi keeps messing up. When I go into wifi to turn on, it will say "turning on" but then immediately say "turning off." It will continually do this over and over again until finally saying "error." Not really sure why or how to fix this, but it is pretty annoying that I can't use my wifi.

My Nexus One exhibits a very strange and annoying behavior at home.It will sporadically disconnect from my home Wi-Fi and will not automatically reconnect. However, if I go into the settings and choose to manually reconnect it will do it 100% of the time.I have the settings on the Nexus One set to never put the wi-fi to sleep so there is no reason that it should be disconnecting.Has anyone else had an issue like this? Anyone have any advice on solving this problem?I am using a fairly old linksys router WRT54G but I have never had any problems maintaining connections with any of my other devices including laptops, Wii's and iphones so it seems like it must be an issue with the Nexus One.

lately in my Asus Padfone 2, the wifi keeps turning on automatically without my permission. Everytime I wake the screen from lock screen, I can already see the WiFi indicator is on above, it's driving me nuts I have to turn it back off every once in a while. This only happen lately when I install many apps from Store I can't remember, so I reckon one of those apps is the main cause of this problem. Which in my running apps turns on my WiFi automatically?
Here a list of all my running apps
Settings
musiXmatch
avast! Mobile Security
Clean Master
Facebook
Line
Line
Onavo Count
WhatsApp
Clock Now
CNET
Offers
CMClient
Power Saver (Asus stock app)
LogUploader
AudioWizard (Asus stock app)
[code]...
I wish my phone stops turning on without any notice it drains my battery and my patience.

I'm using the latest Wifi Fix and OverClock kernel for 2.2 Froyo, but I'm still having issues randomly disconnecting from the wireless network... The wifi signal shows 0/3 bars even when sitting right in front of the router.
Froyo Overclocked Kernels includes *wifi* fix is where I got my kernel. I've been overclocking to 1200 GHz.
This is where I got my ROM (it was updated today) Download: Newer Motorola Droid Froyo Leak FRF57 | Droid Life: A Motorola Droid Blog
Even under the wireless network now, it says "Disabled, secured with 802.1x EAP"

This used to work seamlessly but since the 2.2 update.Whenever i arrive home from work i turn wifi on and all connects well. If i then leave the house and return the wi-fi fails to reconnect automatically. This has only happened since i carried out the update and noticed someone else on another thread has exactly the same problem on vodafone eforum. Is there a solution? Currently i need to turn wi-fi off and back on again and it works, not the end of the world but a pain since it used to work so well! I've tried y5 to try and force it, to no avail and carried out a reset (not full factory just remove battery etc).

If I connect to my home WiFi, it works well. I'll go out of the house and come back a few hours later and the phone does not automatically connect to my home WiFi. If I go to settings, I can see it detects my home WiFi, but says "Connection unsuccessful, select to try again." When I select it, it connects and works fine. My problem is, I don't think I should have to physically select my WiFi network everytime I come home. Shouldn't it see it and connect automatically? What am I dong wrong? Do I have a setting turned on/off that should be different?
