I have tried handcent and chomp. For some reason I can not get the phone to vibrate when I receive a message. It works with the weak stock Eris vibration, but nothing with chomp or handcent.

The main thing that is currently annoying me with it is that when I am on a call, it still vibrates when I receive a text message. I like that it vibrates when I receive texts just not while I'm on the phone. How do I change this 'Phone Only' preference? 1.5 always just had a little beep or sound for the notifier never vibrated?

I delete all of my messages at the start of a new billing cycle and that's how it's always been with my smartphones, so none of those suggestions please For those of you who use 3rd party SMS apps, with large amounts of text messages, do you notice any of them being laggy?

I posted this in someone elses thread but I figured this deserved it's own post since it's pretty much a deal breaker for me. Hopefully someone has the answer for me. Thanks in advance. "I've been looking for a reliable messaging app since I got my incredible, but I always stuck with the stock sms. The reason being is one HUGE glitch scared me away from handcent. the glitch where it would randomly send a text message to the wrong person from your contact list and pretty much pick a random contact to send the sms to. I can't really have that happen since I use my phone as my work phone and personal phone. It would be a VERY bad situation if a text message I was sending my girlfriend was randomly sent to someone from work or a customer. I've seen people posting about this glitch earlier this year but I've never seen anyone confirm whether it not the glitch has been fixed or still exists? It's not something I want to risk. I guess my reason for posting this is I am very curious to find out if that glitch has been fixed. I would LOVE to use hand cent or chomp but I would like some confirmation as to whether or not that glitch is no more. Can anyone confirm this?"
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded Handcent and love all the options that it gives. However, there are times when I set my phone on silent and do not want anything to vibrate. I have went through all of the settings and notifications and changed everything to "never" vibrate. But still when I receive a new message it does the 3 or 4 vibrate tones. I am sure I am over looking something, but I am gettng a little aggervated.

Removing / barring the pre-update issues with the native messaging app on the phone, which one of these do you prefer? I am currently using the native app, seems fine to me, I like that I can link contacts to FB etc. Not necessarily looking for something that plagiarize's the iPhone messenger (cartoon bubbles), but I am always open to something new if it is better than the app preloaded on the phone. If you don't use the native app, is there a widget for Handcent or Chomp (like the native) to make viewing and responding easy?

View 35 Replies View RelatedAfter the Touchdown update I can't get any of my notifications to vibrate for either email or SMS. The phone will still vibrate. I emailed Touchdown and they said that they have heard some things about the vibrate issue but have not been able to duplicate the problems, he recommended a reboot which after two times has not done anything to help the situation. I have to have the vibrate settings for work so I'm screwed without them.

I recall reading through posts before that the lack of the popup was a big negative for Chomp. Just spreading the news, not saying any one app is better than the other. Do what you want with this information.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently switched to chomp from handcent because I like the way chomp looks better than handcent and they both have basically the same functionality.
Well chomp just had an update and it is now force closing everytime i turn my phone on and will not work at all.
I have not tried to uninstall and reinstall because I just got it customized perfectly and there is no guarantee that will work. I will do that if/when someone says it has worked foe them.
That said, has anyone had this problem happen to them after the new update?
since updating to 2.1 which actually went quite smoothly once i'd 'found' my contacts, my phone vibrates as well as makes a sound on incoming texts. The help guide (also disappeared off phone but can stll access online version) still refers to tapping settings & then tapping notifications.... well since the upgrade my settings menu has changed beyond recognition & when you tap settings there is no notifications option! The nearest is 'sound & display', in which i can change the sound used for texts alerts and also has a phone vibrate for incoming calls (which is unchecked) but nothing re vibrate for incoming texts. I know its only a little thing but its really bugging me. how do i turn the vibrate off?

Recently, I have been facing some issues with not hearing or feeling text messages because I miss the tone or buzz of the phone, even with the max volume on. Is there a setting where I can make the phone repeatedly give me an alert and/or vibrate when I get a text message? I have searched both the sound and display option in the phone settings and the messages settings.

But the caller on the other end hears it too and they always end up saying 'WTF was that noise'? How to turn this off so callers don't hear the vibrate mode too?

-Phone vibrate is checked in 'Sound & display settings' for Android.
-Vibrate is checked to always in Handcent.
-Tried multiple vibrate patterns in both normal mode and vibrate mode.
-Tried multiple vibrate patterns for vibrate 'Only when device is set to vibrate mode' (option in handcent) while having the device in vibrate mode.
-Tried uninstalling and reinstalling Handcent.
Phone vibrates normally for all other applications.
So when I have my phone on vibrate setting I can feel it when someone calls me. I have Handcent btw if that makes a difference. But when I have the phone on vibrate and I get a text it doesnt vibrate?I have looked and cant find a fix.
