hi quys recently installed handcent sms app, prefer it to the stock app. just when i recieve a new message both the stock sms & handcent sms app log the recieved text. i have tried to see if you can remove the stock app from manage apps but dont have the option. am i overlooking something? as its annoying having two alerts all the time! cheers for reading & hope i am making sense!!

I've been having a problem with my desire home screen (in particular the sms icon) and I'm wondering if anyone else knows how to fix it.
Recently my messages icon has been showing the little "1" in a green circle indicating I have an unread message. Problem is, I've gone through every list of messages I have on the device and there are no messages I haven't read and the "1" stays there. The only ways I've found to get rid of it are to either delete the icon and then put it back or to use Advance Task Killer and kill messages application. I'm not using any fancy apps for messages, just the default one.
My email counter is always perfect, this only seems to affect my sms. Also, my girlfriend told me she sent me a message a few days ago, but I never received it. Not sure if that's a happy coincidence, or if the phone got the message, is telling me I haven't read it, but isn't displaying it for me to see. All the other messages from her are plainly visible.
There is a message alert tone called 'Doink' on my old G1 that I would like to use on my Desire. How would I go about it?

How do i dasable the standard HTC app as i seem to get a notification on both. Also i have moved the handcent app to the home screen but it does not display a numerical display of a received text message (on the app icon) which i liked on the standard app. Is there a way to get it to do this?

View 23 Replies View RelatedMy problem is this, I downloaded Handcent and really like it, however, I can't send messages from home. I have marginal service here (around -98 avg.) but I do get 3G. Whenever I send a message it says Message Failed - Retry, Cancel? I've even had this problem in places with great coverage for both 3G and cell service. The stock messaging app works just fine. So what I've been doing is receiving messages with Handcent and then sending them using the stock app.
So, does anyone have any ideas of what I can do? Are there any settings that can be changed? Does handcent use 3G to send messages?
I'm now trying Chomp to see if that's any better. And, just an FYI, I'm having trouble with text messages, not MMS. I haven't tried sending any pics or videos yet, I've just been sending SMS.
I have tried handcent and chomp. For some reason I can not get the phone to vibrate when I receive a message. It works with the weak stock Eris vibration, but nothing with chomp or handcent.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got my Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant from Bell, and I am not verry technical. I have some (maybe 10) additional apps installed since i got the phone, including advanced task killer.
My issue is this: when I get a new message, it appears in the blinds (the thing at the top?) like it is supposed to, but after I check the message, it stays there, saying I have the new message. I can clear it and it goes away, but shouldnt it dissapear after I check the text?
I also crash frequently, but I am thinking newer firmware will fix that
Only way i can see if i have a message is to hit refresh. I don't even get a alert sound when i get a new message now.

Looking for some help, just got my SGS a few days ago and m having trouble setting a sound as my text message alert. I have downloaded a few soundboards and want to use one of them....i press and hold the sound i want and set as my default notification.....i then go into settings and choose the relevant sound but everytime i get a text I'm still getting the stupid t-mobile msg sound.
View 1 Replies View Relatedsince updating to 2.1 which actually went quite smoothly once i'd 'found' my contacts, my phone vibrates as well as makes a sound on incoming texts. The help guide (also disappeared off phone but can stll access online version) still refers to tapping settings & then tapping notifications.... well since the upgrade my settings menu has changed beyond recognition & when you tap settings there is no notifications option! The nearest is 'sound & display', in which i can change the sound used for texts alerts and also has a phone vibrate for incoming calls (which is unchecked) but nothing re vibrate for incoming texts. I know its only a little thing but its really bugging me. how do i turn the vibrate off?

Now the 'message' alert continues to go off and I can't stop it; I finally had to mute it. I have rebooted and even removed the battery and it won't stop.

Is this actually how Motorolla designed it's phone, or am I making a mistake? I receive texts/emails much more than phone calls, but am not always in an environment where I can have my ringer going off. View 2 Replies View RelatedI am thinking there is probably a solution to this but I am unable to find it. When you are on the phone and receive a text I do not get any sort of alert. Previous phones would give me a beep or something to let me know I had gotten a text. However if your phone is set to vibrate as well as ring when you get a text the vibrations still go off but without any noise. It wouldnt be a big deal except the vibrate noise apparently is very audible and annoying to whoever you are on the phone with. I am one of the few who really like the stock messaging application so I am not using hancent or anything like that. Any ideas would be appreciated

Recently, I have been facing some issues with not hearing or feeling text messages because I miss the tone or buzz of the phone, even with the max volume on. Is there a setting where I can make the phone repeatedly give me an alert and/or vibrate when I get a text message? View 16 Replies View RelatedMy wife and I both have HTC Hero's (Sprint) and recently have been having problems sending and receiving pictures in our text (from each other as well as other people) If I send a picture to her, her phone will vibrate and the notification light will blink, but nothing will show up.
Now if I send a second picture the first one will show up on her phone, and if I send a third, the second one shows up and on and on. It happens the same way if she tries to send me a picture. The phones worked fine when we bought them in December. This problem has just started in the last month.
