I have a friend with a moto droid using handcent and he is able to speak a voice quick reply into handcent and it types it out...(handy while driving). I installed handcent on my eris today and do not have the microphone icon available on the quick reply screen. Any ideas how I can get it to work? Is this available on the eris?

I have this really annoying problem that I've seen mentioned here but I can't find a specific thread on the subject. This first started happening after the December update. When I push the end button to "turn on" the phone (i.e., wake the phone up), I get a black screen with the HTC symbol monentarily. Then, once that goes away, my background appears but nothing else except the waiting icon. I've been told that this is a conflict between something I have installed and the Sense UI.

i cannot for the life of me get it back. verizon says it was lost after the upgrade. i put the "people" icon on my now when i need to call a friend who is on my "favorite" list, i hit that icon, it brings me to all contacts and at the bottom i then have to depress favorites which brings up groups, then hit favorites. like 4 steps to make a phone call?
anybody figure out how to get the favorite icon back on the phone screen?
When I ended a call and went back to the home screen. I wanted to text someone. But when I pushed the message icon the end call screen kept coming up and when I went on the internet and went back to home screen later on today it brought up google home page over and over instead of the message app. I am using the one that came with the phone. I am on 2.1

In Play Magazines as well you the mic icon from Ice Cream Sandwich. The Play Store has (somewhat) recently undergone a significant upgrade when Jelly Bean was at a mature age of version 4.2. It will updated again in time for 4.4 KitKat, evolving into line with current Android design guidelines featuring the sliding navigation drawer. Will Google then update the mic icon or will they revert it back to the ICS style in the future?

I have it set up as the default entry method in Hand cent, but I miss the microphone icon in the touch keyboard, because sometimes "speaking" a text message is convenient. Is there a short cut to use the voice input when using swype, or do I have to hold down on the text entry part and switch to "touch keyboard" each time? If you are using swype and can still use the microphone button, please let me know how.

I was having issues with Gmail and switched to the official RUU and now have no microphone icon. That is an amazing feature! So how do I get it back? Diff keyboard or a feature I am missing? It looks like I cannot root anymore (for a while at least). Anyways just having the microphone icon would suffice I don't have to root per se.

Tried within Handcent and vanilla messages app and elsewhere. I have used this feature on a friend's unbranded Hero running 2.1 (in Egypt) so is it missing from Orange UK ROM or have I missed a settng for enabling it?

The recording seems to stop as soon as the screen times out and the phone enters what I think is sleep mode. I've noticed that some apps(Tokasiki's Voice Recorder, for one) don't seem to have this problem on this phone(Motorola Atrix) and continue to record audio long after the screen has faded to black. I've tried using a partial wake lock but it doesn't seem to maintain the recording. Should I use AudioRecord instead of MediaRecorder? Voice Recorder seems to get by without using AudioRecord.

I like how my Eris has default buttons to quickly switch on Wifi and Bluetooth, is there an option to do the same for GPS Satellites? i hate going through the settings menu to turn it on or off. I think i've seen pictures of peoples setups where they have this and airplane mode as quick on/off buttons but i can't seem to find it.

Yeah, so my wife's Eris has had a weird glitch since she got it in January. Before any suggestions, we've tried factory wipe, Settings > Applications and making sure it's the default action, but still no go.
Her messaging icon on the home screen launches other random programs at will. Sometimes it's the last used program, other times it's just completely random apps. I've searched for answers but no dice. Any suggestions? We've also tried recreating a new icon for the screen, and it does the same thing.
*edit* she did have Advanced Task Killer & Advanced Task Manager installed for a time, but has since removed them. I thought maybe it was an app, but she says it has done it since she unpackaged it from the box.
I got my Eris 2 days ago. I updated to 2.1 yesterday, using the update function. I notice there is a new notification? icon in the top bar. It never appeared before the update. I looked through the manual both for 1.5 and 2.1 and it is not listed. It looks like an over the ear earpiece facing to the right, with an arc next to it like the satellite icon has when it is connected.
