I'm happy with my Orange UK 2.1 updated Hero except I have no microphone icon on the popup keyboard for converting speech to text. Tried within Handcent and vanilla messages app and elsewhere. I have used this feature on a friend's unbranded Hero running 2.1 (in Egypt) so is it missing from Orange UK ROM or have I missed a settng for enabling it?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a unlocked unbranded brand new milestone I got couple days ago and it came with 2.0 firmware.So it installed no problems but compared to my nephews droid 2.1 from verizon his has the live wallpaper like mine does, but on his when you hit the screen of the live wallpaper you see the ripple effect but on my I dont.
Also Mines missing the speecn to text also, I dotn see a microphone icon in the virtual keyboard when in a text field, also when he holds the search button at the bottom a speak now command comes up for you to say something, anyone know why Im missing these?
When I rooted to 2.1 I had a microphone by the gear. I also notice a microphone on the Evo. I was having issues with Gmail and switched to the official RUU and now have no microphone icon. That is an amazing feature! So how do I get it back? Diff keyboard or a feature I am missing? It looks like I cannot root anymore (for a while at least). Anyways just having the microphone icon would suffice I don't have to root per se.

A friend of mine just downloaded the HTC 2.1 update and I noticed that he does not have this option. Was this removed from the final upgrade or is there a way to add it on to a stock Hero?

When I hold down the input field I get an input choice menu but the only option there is the Android Keyboard.Am I doing it wrong?What am I missing? I would also like to have it read emails to me, and word docs (or just .txt).I have a Kindle but my phone is a little more convenient for something I would rather read in bits and pieces while walking to and fro the car or whatever.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently updated the handcent messaging app and after a few soft resets the icon on the home screen is gone. the name is there and a grey X. if i reinstall the app it reappears but it takes too much time to keep redoing my settings. anyone else notice that? it happened twice after about 8 soft resets.
View 15 Replies View RelatedTake a look at the microphone icon on a stock 4.3 Jelly Bean home screen. Open up Google now and the same icon is there. Now take a look at the Play Store. In Play Magazines as well you the mic icon from Ice Cream Sandwich. The Play Store has (somewhat) recently undergone a significant upgrade when Jelly Bean was at a mature age of version 4.2. It will updated again in time for 4.4 KitKat, evolving into line with current Android design guidelines featuring the sliding navigation drawer. Will Google then update the mic icon or will they revert it back to the ICS style in the future?

I have it set up as the default entry method in Hand cent, but I miss the microphone icon in the touch keyboard, because sometimes "speaking" a text message is convenient. Is there a short cut to use the voice input when using swype, or do I have to hold down on the text entry part and switch to "touch keyboard" each time? If you are using swype and can still use the microphone button, please let me know how.

I installed handcent on my eris today and do not have the microphone icon available on the quick reply screen. Any ideas how I can get it to work? Is this available on the eris?

View 6 Replies View RelatedSoince the 2.1 upgrade on my Orange Hero I get not only an anonymous empty text message which I can't get rid of but also every time I get a misssed call, the Notification can't be permanently deleted. Every time my phone is switched off and back on they re-appear. I now have 6 missed calls shown when I switch back on.

In iOS you can turn on Accessibility function that add the "Speak" button to the "selection menu". And if you click, it would turn on Text To Speech engine and read selected text. Can I do the same thing in Android ?
PS: I assume that regular app could not modify "copy, paste, cut menu" so I probably need custom ROM. (I'm particularly interested Nexus 7 2013 solution, but I assume that solution should be universal because it is just modification to the "Selection menu" and add button)
I accidentally dragged my text message icon on the main screen into the remove bucket. Can anyone tell me how to restore this? I cannot text anyone without it.
View 7 Replies View Relatedshould the voice mail icon have a number on it like the email or text icons if you get a new voicemail? If I get a notification, it only shows up on the task bar. I was also experiencing not recieving texts. I have since done a reset which fixed the text issue (and sleep-for now), but not the voicemail. Should I take the phone back? I fear its anotjer software bug, not hardware. I love this phone, but I'm getting very annoyed that it can't even do what its suppose to.
