View 1 RepliesI'm having to move networks from Virgin back to o2.
I'll be returning the Virgin Desire and just received the o2 Desire today.
Setting it up went well, accounts added etc. but I'm having trouble with the WiFi - I can't disable it, every time I do it switches itself back on - I'm assuming that's something to do with the o2 firmware and it wouldn't be a big deal if the WiFi worked properly
I set it to install all my apps, but wouldn't over Wifi, only over 3G, I can't browse the internet or check for software updates in settings... I've got 2 email accounts set up - Gmail & Exchange (just as I did on the other handset), and it's just told me it can't sync to the Exchange server now though it seems to have been fine so far...
Yet I've just sent myself a test email over WiFi successfully - it appeared straight away in the webmail and then back on the handset, so some part of it's working...
Can you receive calls and texts while on wifi.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI saw somewhere that you can supposedly turn off your 3g (mobile network radio) and use wifi to make/receive calls. Is this true? I've attempted to test this out by using the mobile widget and turning it off. I can make and receive calls with only wifi on, but I still find it hard to believe. I'm assuming that I haven't fully turned off the 3g radio. Looking for options, as I work in a bad reception zone (basement).
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy girlfriend is headed overseas next week. We're trying to figure out how to use our phones to make calls over wifi. She has an Incredible and I have an Eris (both on Verizon). It looks like we can't use Skype because it requires Verizon network coverage to work. It looks like Gizmo5 with Google Voice may have been an option at one time, but Google shut that down by acquiring Gizmo5. So my question is, is there any way that we can make calls to each other over wifi?

View 12 Replies View RelatedAny way to use the Droid to make calls over WiFi as opposed to the VZW network? I have terrible coverage at my house, and would like to just use my WiFi connection. I would need to be able to go over WiFi but still be considered a Verizon Wireless call, as I call a lot of people with Verizon and take advantage of the free calling to Verizon customers. I don't see why Verizon wouldn't take advantage of something like this, it would only take strain off of their network if some users are connecting on their WiFi networks.
View 15 Replies View RelatedBasically I live in the middle of no where, and I don't have cell coverage at home. A friend of mine came over to the house with his BlackBerry and was able to connect to our WiFi, then make and receive calls. Is there an app that can do this? Or a setting on my Captivate?
View 12 Replies View RelatedQuestion: My wife and I both have an Evo 4g. We live in the US. She will be traveling Europe for three months and I would like for her to be able to call me free through WiFi access. What app would be best for this situation? Something that is most like a normal phone call would be ideal. Also I would much rather be able to receive calls without running a special app. Simple and easy is important.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Sprint (CDMA) Hero (still 1.5 - not rooted) and will be traveling to England, taking it with me. I already know it won't work over there as a phone/Sprint network. But I can still use the wifi. Is there anyway that I can use wifi on the phone to make calls? I know Skype is no longer available for Android (a shame) but was wondering if any creative minds on this forum knew of a solution.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm going to be in Japan for 10 days. I read that they put in a 3G network so I called Verizon and our phone do work there! Here's the catch, it's 1.99 per min! They have a Global Data Package that 64.99 unlimited data, so I'm putting that on for the 10 days I'm there. I just got my Dinc last week and I'm a total noob when it comes to it. Is there an app or way to use wifi to place calls cheaper? I've tried searching these forums but I can't find anything.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI decided to try the WiFi hotspot available through 2.2. GREAT! Actually worked quite a bit better than I thought it would. Only trouble is, ... now I'm back at home, it fails to connect to the home network.
+ Restarting phone
+ Re-entering password
+ Forgetting network + refinding
WiFi sees the network, says "Connecting", comes up "Failed to connect", "Scanning" and loops on that sequence. I know the router's working because this laptop is using it right now
I have the Behold II through T Mobile and when I'm on the road and in certain places I will have full bars but no 3g, or wifi. When I try to send a text it says "Unable to send text, will send once service becomes avalible" When I try to make a call it says service unavalible.
It tells me I have full bars, and when I go to network selection, it doesnt matter what network i choose or whats avalible it wont connect to it, a message will pop up and say "Network with limited service avalible, search for network" ..if i say yes it just does the same thing all over again, and if i say no it goes into automatic mode and wont let me do anything once again..
I have full bars, does that not matter? If I have to have 3g then why would it tell me i have a full signal when I really dont.
I just can't figure this out. All I need to do is be able to make calls to other cells and landline phones over my wifi connection using my incredible ( i don't get cell service at home). No international calls. I have sip set up and fring. I can dial out on my dinc and i will hear ringing but but that is it. No one picks up. I have called my home phone and it doesn't ring.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure if it's just me experienced this wired situation. I got TP-Link 108M wireless router at home and all my 4 PCs and 1 wireless cam connected to the router with no issues for 1.5 years. But ever since I brought in my HTC-Desire last week, I experienced dropped connections almost everyday. If I switch the Desire off, then every thing gets to normal. Have you experienced same? Is this something I can overcome by set some settings?
View 1 Replies View RelatedHello, I recently got a HTC Desire and I've experienced that it often hangs up on the person I'm talking to because my ear touches some button on the display. I've tried turning on the screen lock, and that works sometimes but not always, so I would like to find a permanent solution.

View 1 Replies View RelatedLately I can be outside in Central London with 4 or more bars showing on my HTC Desire but can't make or receive any calls. This happened in the Putney area last week and yesterday I was in Camden so I thought it must be a network problem until my mate with an Orange iPhone sat next to me and starting making calls with no problem. Anyone else finding this? The phone says its dialing on the display but seconds later it says call ended. I do try various different numbers just to check but get the same results.
