Basically I live in the middle of no where, and I don't have cell coverage at home. A friend of mine came over to the house with his BlackBerry and was able to connect to our WiFi, then make and receive calls. Is there an app that can do this? Or a setting on my Captivate?

Someone else who had an iPhone said they could do this. But the person with the Droid tested it, made a phone call and was not able to bring the browser up.

View 11 Replies View RelatedAny way to use the Droid to make calls over WiFi as opposed to the VZW network? I have terrible coverage at my house, and would like to just use my WiFi connection. I would need to be able to go over WiFi but still be considered a Verizon Wireless call, as I call a lot of people with Verizon and take advantage of the free calling to Verizon customers. I don't see why Verizon wouldn't take advantage of something like this, it would only take strain off of their network if some users are connecting on their WiFi networks.

I get the voice mail if they leave one but no signs of then calling besides that. I love my captivate but I have trouble sending and receiving pic messages too. I've never had any other problems either. Anyone know what may cause this? If its the phone will they replace it for free?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have looked and cannot find the answer to this puzzle. The other day my wife came home and said that while she was talking on the phone she got a text message. She has a "Joe Dirt" sound notification for it and said that it began to play loud in the phone while she was talking. The other person could not hear it but she could. Today I am using RingDroid to make a ring tone and I get a call. The screen switches over to answer or not answer with no other options meanwhile the song is still playing. I figure if I answer the phone the call will over ride the music... wrong! As soon as I answer the music stops in the speaker and starts playing through the ear piece really loud. I can barely hear the other person through the music so I put them on hold while I try to navigate back to ringdroid which has vanished so I can push stop. While I'm trying to get back to it, it finally stops because it was set to play for 30 seconds. I go back to the call and ask if they heard that and they say no. This has to be fixed. What do I need to do?

Anyways, when there is an auxiliary cable, or headphones I'm assuming also, plugged into the phone, I can hear the person who I call/who calls me, but they cannot hear me through the phone. Is this true with everyone's phone? Listening to music and then having someone call me while it is plugged in is very annoying as I have to hang up on them and call back.

My unlimited plan is grandfathered in, and I would like to keep it that way. but if i go to the at&t store and buy a captivate like I want, they are going to make me change my contract from the unlimited I have now to either 200mb or 2gb per month when they activate the phone. Would anyone know a way to buy a captivate and get it working with my current service without getting screwed out of my unlimited data by at&t? Is it really as simple as buying one from another source and transferring my sim card to the captivate?

After 8 minutes on a voice call, the phone is reaching upwards of 110 degrees.

The Remotecall app in Playstore still requires me to pick up my phone in order to actually hear something..
its got all the other features i'd like to use: answer calls from my PC, make calls from pc (from , for example, the outlook contactlist), call Log capability; but i have to pick up my phone when i probably can just hear it through my headphone (connected to PC)
I think i should be looking for some sort of voip server on my phone and let my computer act as voip client, but i'm not entirely sure about that.
I have not seen this mentioned but I have trouble with it every day. When I make a call the proximity sensor does not always work. During the call my cheek will pull up the keypad and then start dialing. Sometimes this will happen even if I remember to hit the sleep/wake button as I start the call (to turn off the screen). Very embarrassing to explain to the other party why your phone is touch-toning over their conversation. Does this happen to everyone or just me? It did it with the I4 and now the K4 firmware.

I want to be able to selectively pick the numbers I never want to dial as I have run a huge bill by mistake. I don't want to put international barring, as I won't be able to text abroad. I just want the app to stop me from calling abroad. Does anyone know of any app or know of a workaround? I currently use Phonebook and I don't know if this is possible with this app.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Samsung Galaxy SII, on O2 in the UK with their latest software release (Jelly Bean). Since the update the Jelly Bean the other month, it had been working like a dream, but starting this week, my phone seems to freeze whenever a call is recieved, or I try to dial out. The screen just goes black and the phone becomes unresponsive. Sometimes, the screen just stays black and I have to take the battery out to restart. At other times the phone will come back after between 1 and 4 minutes, after apparently rebooting itself (the Samsung welcome screen flashes up).
The phone will also now hang and fail to play media (MP3) files. Whether using the Google Player, the native Samsung app or VLC. Normally, the screen goes black for a minute or two and then the app will show the track as queued up with artwork) but it will not play and the app just freezes. Other apps, internet browsing and text messages works as usual.
I have tried removing any recently installed apps (only Dropbox was new recently) and I tried the factory reset. The problems persist after both.
I hope this hasn't been asked a thousand times.. BUT, I'm so frustrated with how low the notification is for text messages. I was able to change it for the voicemail notification (under notification sounds) but it doesn't seem to have any affect on the text one.. it only changed the voicemail one.

I made 3 playlists using doubleTwist and put them on my phone and when I rebooted my phone yesterday my phone had created several other playlists on it's own each with no more than 3 or 4 songs in it. View 13 Replies View RelatedJust got my refurbished Captivate in the mail today, charged and activated it as per the instructions. It worked just fine for about 30 minutes or so. I put on a few apps and showed them off to my roommate, and things were going fine. Then all of a sudden I couldn't send or receive phone calls, nor was I able to get/send text messages. With no pattern or logic I would go from 3g to edge to neither of the two symbols (just full signal strength) to the international no sign where my full bars just were. If I typed and tried to send a text while the no sign was visible it would send and receive texts as soon as I got signal back, but that would only last a few minutes.
I've tried hard and soft resets and restoring the phone to factory settings, all to no avail, as well as checking my message center number. I've looked around in the forums and can't seem to find anyone who has had this problem, and I was hoping someone would have some advice or could point me to a thread that I may have missed. I'd talk to AT&T but chat hours are over and I have to be up early for work tomorrow and need my phone for that, so I'm not sure I can ask customer service tomorrow beforehand.
This is annoying the crapp out of me! When I receive an incoming call, my phone rings at low volume (custom mp3 ring tone) for about 2 to 3 seconds and THEN starts ringing on high volume. Is there any way to disable this dumb feature?

My problem is that my wife mainly, or ppl will call or text me and i will not recieve ANY notification of a missed call or text. Usually with my old phone "samsung eternity" i would recieve a missed call or text later once my phone got reception again. Any one else having this problem and also any fixes? My only idea is my task killer might be messing up with it. But i've ignored anything that has to do with text or calls.
