Samsung Captivate :: Making Phone Calls Over WiFi Only
Jul 27, 2010Basically I live in the middle of no where, and I don't have cell coverage at home. A friend of mine came over to the house with his BlackBerry and was able to connect to our WiFi, then make and receive calls. Is there an app that can do this? Or a setting on my Captivate?

Feb 20, 2010Any way to use the Droid to make calls over WiFi as opposed to the VZW network? I have terrible coverage at my house, and would like to just use my WiFi connection. I would need to be able to go over WiFi but still be considered a Verizon Wireless call, as I call a lot of people with Verizon and take advantage of the free calling to Verizon customers. I don't see why Verizon wouldn't take advantage of something like this, it would only take strain off of their network if some users are connecting on their WiFi networks.

Apr 9, 2010For the past few days now when I make a call it has a delay in making the connection, like 10 seconds, never had this issue before, the only program I have installed lately was the GPS for golf and of course the latest updates on the existing programs I have. The Remotecall app in Playstore still requires me to pick up my phone in order to actually hear something..
its got all the other features i'd like to use: answer calls from my PC, make calls from pc (from , for example, the outlook contactlist), call Log capability; but i have to pick up my phone when i probably can just hear it through my headphone (connected to PC)
I think i should be looking for some sort of voip server on my phone and let my computer act as voip client, but i'm not entirely sure about that.

I want to be able to selectively pick the numbers I never want to dial as I have run a huge bill by mistake. I don't want to put international barring, as I won't be able to text abroad. Jun 24, 2013I have a Samsung Galaxy SII, on O2 in the UK with their latest software release (Jelly Bean). Since the update the Jelly Bean the other month, it had been working like a dream, but starting this week, my phone seems to freeze whenever a call is recieved, or I try to dial out. The screen just goes black and the phone becomes unresponsive. Sometimes, the screen just stays black and I have to take the battery out to restart. At other times the phone will come back after between 1 and 4 minutes, after apparently rebooting itself (the Samsung welcome screen flashes up).
The phone will also now hang and fail to play media (MP3) files. Whether using the Google Player, the native Samsung app or VLC. Normally, the screen goes black for a minute or two and then the app will show the track as queued up with artwork) but it will not play and the app just freezes. Other apps, internet browsing and text messages works as usual.
I have tried removing any recently installed apps (only Dropbox was new recently) and I tried the factory reset. The problems persist after both.

Aug 11, 2010I bought my Xperia x10 mini yesterday, and one of the first things I did was to set it up for WiFi in my house (which I already have 2 laptops and a stationary PC connected to). Setting it up was easy and quick, but my phone doesn't find the network, not even if I am standing right beside the router. I have tried to restart the WiFi connection, restart my phone, delete and re-add the home connection, but the phone still doesn't connect to the network.
The network's SSID isn't broadcasted for security reasons, could this be the problem? When I search for networks, it doesn't find any 'unnamed' networks like the windows pcs do. (which is normally the one I need to connect to.) Is there something wrong with my hardware? Or my software (my phone is completely up-to-date)? (Except broadcast the SSID, which is not an option..)

Jul 9, 2009Just got my Magic today (Rogers) and things went pretty smoothly. Phone unlocked fine, AT&T's APN entered correctly, web browsing is good, Exchange is up and running, etc. But, I am having a problem dialing outbound calls, it is only working intermittently. I'm in a known good service area (5 bars) and have strong signal. Half the time I try to make an outbound call, it fails after about 5 seconds of just sitting there and saying "dialing" - it just craps-out and I get the fast busy signal and a "called failed" message. I try again - same thing. Every once and a while it will go through - and then the cycle happens all over again. This isn't happening in any of my other devices. Could there be a setting in the "phone" area that I have to tweak or something? Obviously a phone that doesn't make calls consistently is no good to me!

Sure, I know that you can press the 'end call' button to end a call, but about three or four rings into the call, the backlight goes out, meaning that the on-screen 'end call' option is disabled, presumably also meaning that turning on the speakerphone during a call is going to need some tactile finger acrobatics.
