I posted this in the 2.2 thread but it seems to have been overlooked so I will ask here instead. The option to allow the phone to backup automatically to SD card in Settings > Privacy have gone, does anyone know where the setting is now or even if a backup option is even available in froyo 2.2, because i can't find it anywhere even after a factory reset.

I need to reset an EVO to factory defaults. After updating to Fro Yo there is no privacy option under settings. Where did it go? How can I reset to defaults?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've downloaded firmware and backed up the data stored on the phone when prompted, now after the phone restarted I saw that the main screen is set to a default HTC one, I had my own profile saved onto the phone but I cannot find it after the firmware update. Can you manually backup data form the sd card? Or is it just a normal thing that the update deletes your own main screen setting even if it's saved in the profiles section. I must say I'm quite annoyed with it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am concerned that were something to happen to my phone, an HTC Desire, during updates and app installs for instance, that I would lose everything. So my simple question is, how can you back up a froyo HTC Desire phone?
I am aware that the Privacy -> Backup option has mysteriously disappeared from the Settings menu, and that in order to see it, you need to do the following:
Menu -> Settings -> Search -> Searchable Items ->
- Web (untick)
- Settings (tick)
Now, you need to click the Search button and search for Privacy. You should then see the Privacy- HTC global search item.
Select this and Backup and Restore appears, with the following options:
- Back up my settings
- Automatic restore
Some questions I have relating to this missing feature are:
- Why is this setting completely hidden? Are we not supposed to use it?
- Does it actually work? Has anyone successfully used it?
- When you select to Back up my settings nothing appears to happen. The phone does not appear to start syncing, so how do you know if anything has been backed up? How long should you wait after selecting the option before knowing that you have a backup available?
- Where is the data stored? Can you verify it?
I find it rather strange that I cannot find the answers to these questions in the public domain, so I am asking them here, in case anyone has any insights into it all.
Ignoring the above "missing" option, are there any other ways to successfully back up my phone using 3rd party apps? Which ones work with froyo?
I just found out, that the "Privacy" -tab (home-menu-settings-privacy?) is missing ?
I gave the "factory defaults" reset in two ways, but it didn't help.
(home-menu-settings-sd&phone storage-factory data reset and pressing vol-power etc)
How could I get the backup data from the SD, while the bloody tab has gone somewhere...
It seems, that backup-directory still remains with several *.arc -files.
The phone is HTC Desire; with sw-version 2.10.205.2
There was an article on the BBC website a few days ago about a study that was done that found applications on the Android Market were transmitting information back like phone numbers, IMEI numbers and SIM serial numbers when the permissions were only for location, camera and audio data. It appears that Google's response was something along the lines that the apps give the user the choice to continue with the install and it is up to the user to only install apps they trust. I for one think that I am a bit careful in what I choose to download (ie: why would an app for wallpapers want access to my contacts? etc) but how can you really know for sure it is only getting the info it says it wants and where are the boundries?
I don't know enough about programming and the like but was just wondering with the new Sense and other apps where you can remotely wipe your phone if stolen and other such things, if other companies (or even a kid in his bedroom who write a simple app game and gets access to your phone's details) have this info (IMEI number etc), how do you protect yourself? Am I just being overly paranoid? On the other hand, I don't want to have a phone and *not* download any apps!
Is there someplace that can explain what permissions would give me a definite "no" for certain types of apps? Something like "a game should never want access to x, y, z." Although this probably wouldn't help if the app was taking more info than it needs anyway from the particular 'permission'.
I had a quick browse of the actual research paper and a lot of it is just techno-jiggery to me but I do recognize some apps that I would have normally trusted (ie: Layars, Barcode Scanner, Astrid). Just ran reset on my phone twice...it rebooted and nothing was removed! Never seen this before anyone have any thoughts? I'm on CM 5.0.7.1, and haven't seen this behavior before on that or any other ROM. Gonna boot into recovery and do it manually.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have recently bought QMobile A8 phone which in "about phone" says ics 4.0.4 and has the notification swipe to close and long press home key and swipe to close background apps but in settings-> apps it does not show "all" button neither there is a way to disable apps. I installed advanced task killer and could find the disable button in few apps by force stop detail option in advanced task killer and disabled maps and few other. Now where to find them since I don't have the "all" button in settings-> apps where at the bottom there are disabled apps in my other android devices.

This may be a bug, or may be a feature that is incomplete. I am using the Droid Incredible with OTA'ed froyo 2.2, with factory resetted. My wife's Droid Incredible with OTA'ed froyo 2.2 without resetted has exactly the same issue. This seems to happen from fundamental android OS layer directly, as it appears on both launchpro and Sense UI.
I don't remember if the phone showed the same option with OS 2.1, but after update, I noticed the strange second option has been appeared with some of my contacts. I tried to un-link those contacts (i.e. phone contacts, google contacts or twitter contacts, etc) to figure out which part is making this problem with no success. Does anybody have the same issue? When I click the problematic option icon, the pop-up window comes offering me a choice of action with different applications.
I go to settings from the icon, and there is no option to change my Data Sync options! It has totally disappeared. I'm running AOSP 1.6, but it was just there earlier today. I only did a Nandroid restore recently, but I can't think of anything I did to make it re-appear if it was already missing. Help!
View 2 Replies View RelatedOk so I rooted my phone and installed SuperUser and Titanium Backup (paid version). My main reason was to free up some space.I clear the cache almost daily, am using just a few apps and have deleted anything that would actually make the phone any fun (like cool widgets or useful yet non-basic apps. I have no games on it. I have googled "how to move apps to SD with Titanium Backup" dozens of times in the past month and read that it's under "batch options" a thousand times. However, for the life of me I can NOT see an option under the 4th section "Move/Integrate" for anything remotely related to MOVING APPS TO SD. The only thing it shows on that category is "Integrate updates of system apps into ROM".
I have a huge external SD plugged in where ALL my pictures, screenshots, downloads, music and videos are stored. The external SD is not even half full. Yet, my 4.44GB internal memory is filled nearly to capacity with only 274MB free.
I constantly get the STORAGE SPACE RUNNING LOW message and my available space is invariably under 380MB.
WHAT CAN I DO??? I'm about to give up on Android alltogether.
I'm running Jelly Bean 4.1.2 and the main apps I'm using which I think take up the most space are GMail, Whatsapp, Google Maps, Androind Weather and Camera360.
How do I backup my settings? For instance, if I change the view of my bookmarks from the icon/thumbnail view, to the list/details view, how can I backup my settings so that this setting, and all my other settings, can be preserved?
View 1 Replies View RelatedOk i have not been able to find any answers what so ever regarding the people that can not find the backup/restore option after entering the recovery mode. I have recently rooted using the new z4root application. I get a skull and crossbones supper user app, and was wondering if that means its different than the one with the ninja icon that everyone else gets.
Anyways, When i go to make a nandroid back up, i follow the steps to the letter, but when i get to the recovery menu, my options stop after the wipe baseband data option. there is absolutely nothing else there that says anything about backup/restore option everyone seems to be screaming about. Its not there!
Now please can someone figure out a solution to this problem?
