I got this phone yesterday. My friend also recently got this phone. We both have the same problem. Basically if we receive a message, we can read it. Close it and the home screen still shows a "1" on it as though we haven't read it. How do we set it so that once a message is read, its closed.

I want to override the default android messaging application.
If I receive a sms or mms I want to send that to email but i don't want any notification on phone.
So basically I want to replace the default messaging application.
How can I make my application the default one that receive the sms?
First post here. I tried searching (a lot) and couldn't find the answer. You know the box that pops up when you send a text that asks what app you want to use? There is a message at the bottom that tells you how to change defaults once you check the "don't ask me again" box. I didn't bother to read that and now can't find where to change the default. Anyone know or can someone look at that box and read what it says at the bottom? I can't anymore since I chose a default and the box no longer pops up.

I just changed to using Handcent SMS instead of the default messaging app and i cannot find out how to stop the notifications from the default messager app, because now it shows 2 notifications, one for each app, and select them, it will take me to the message, but i'll have to manually clear the notifications. Anyone know a fix for this?

View 6 Replies View Relatedmaybe it's because I'm spoiled with my Hero. My wife just got the moment and I really dislike the SMS UI. Its all black, and just says ME: Other Persons name: no avatar etc. Anyone know if theres a way to show the contacts avatar/image just like the Hero? I hate to install handcent for functionality that basically already exists by default. I Know it doesnt have popup's etc like handcent, but unless theres another app out there? I just hate to install app after app taking up memory.

Is there any way to replace the default messaging app's screen with Hand cent? View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having some problems with the default messaging app. Everything was fine until I downloaded Handcent. After playing around with Handcent, I decided to remove it. After I did, when I tried to send a picture with the default client, it would appear to send properly, but the person I was sending too would get a notification that the attached media was 'too large' or something similar, and not be able to view the picture Finally, I reinstalled Handcent and could send pictures from it just fine. I noticed that Handcent asks to resize pictures when sending where the default app does not. I could not find any settings for 'resize' in the default app. I figured I just had a bug with the default client, and continued to use Handcent with no problems. I would periodically check the default client, with the same results.Finally, after several days of using nothing BUT Handcent, I decided to give the default app another try, and now I find that it is working again with no problems, and in fact, the pictures I send with it that are apparently NOT resized look better on the phones I send them to than the ones I send with Handcent. Has anyone else had a problem like this, or know what could be going on?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI backed up all system apps and info with Titanium Backup. Made sure that the apps I was uninstalling were backed up. Then uninstalled the default messaging app because I use chompsms. Turns out chomp as well as handcent use part of the default messaging app. No big deal, go back into TB and restore it. But its not there. It seems that TB just creates a link to the market place and the default app is not available there. Unless I'm mistaken, I need someone to upload the default messaging app and it's location, (TB didn't tell me where it was) so I can actually have messages show up in handcent or chomp. Next time I'll just change the name of default apps...
View 7 Replies View RelatedI installed Handcent because of the battery drain issue, and like it a lot, but now I cannot turn off the OEM Messages program. I tried going into the Settings>Applications>Manage Applications to turn it off, and it doesn't work. I also did the "Use Handcent as default SMS" when that box first pops up. I get two different ringtone notifications too. Although I switched the ringer to the same one both through the phone's settings and through Handcent's settings.

Whenever i download it i end up receiving 2 messages, one from my original sms that comes loaded on the phone and one from Handcent sms. If I receive a SMS from Person 1, it shows up in the messaging app, if I reply to it, it orders the messages in a weird order.
EXAMPLE:
"Message received."
Person1: "BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH"
then I reply, after the reply is sent ...it shows up like this..
ME: "REPLY TO BLAH BLAH BLAH"
Person 1 : "BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH"
isn't it supposed to be ME after the PERSON1 and not before.
When I try to send a picture message it just aomes up 'Pending' unless I send it to mysel!. I've phoned T Mobile and they don't seem to have an answer. Has anyone come across this problem or have a solution.

But there is one thing that is bugging me.
When opening messaging and viewing a message and then pressing the HOME button. And after wards launching the messaging app again it defaults to showing me the last sms I have seen.
So I would like that whenever I launch messaging it would always start in the view all messages.
The only solution I have found thus far is by using a task killer. Which would auto kill 'messages' when not in use.
So I installed Advanced Task Killer and set it to kill messaging when the screen is OFF. But it just does not work.
I've been using the Desire with Froyo for quite some time and have 2 problems with it:
1) When I go to people and press send message, the phone instead of composing a message my phone starts dialing that number.
2) In my Favorites even though I have selected a primary number to dial, the phone keeps calling a different one on the list which was set a long time ago.
