How do I get the default Sprint Messaging App to stop popping up when I receive a message? I turned off notifications for it but it still pops up and I get double windows for them and Chomp.

Handcent worked fine before i updated to 2.1 but ever since then i cant get the default sms to stop popping up when i get new messages. I have already unchecked every setting in the default app. Is there another setting i am forgetting to mess with??

View 7 Replies View RelatedI installed Handcent because of the battery drain issue, and like it a lot, but now I cannot turn off the OEM Messages program. I tried going into the Settings>Applications>Manage Applications to turn it off, and it doesn't work. I also did the "Use Handcent as default SMS" when that box first pops up. I get two different ringtone notifications too. Although I switched the ringer to the same one both through the phone's settings and through Handcent's settings.

The phone is new. I've tried clearing the history and the search history, disabling search suggestions, even setting airplane mode in case the phone was fetching this live.
I want to override the default android messaging application.
If I receive a sms or mms I want to send that to email but i don't want any notification on phone.
So basically I want to replace the default messaging application.
How can I make my application the default one that receive the sms?

I use Handcent, and lately I have been finding it to be quite laggy and slow, even with cache cleared and all threads deleted. Is the only difference between stock and aftermarket, the fact that you can customize? I would much rather have a plain looking stock app that performs well, then a customizable aftermarket app that is slow. I am just looking for some opinions.

View 31 Replies View Relatedi'm having an issue with my calendar notifications and looking for some help.i'm running the default calendar app that came with the phone and it is properly synched with my google calendar. the synching is working fine; in fact everything is great in that regard. the problem lies in that when i update something from my computer.say, i'm on my home pc and put in an event, even though it shows up in my phone, my phone does not give me a notification of the event.i have done a couple 'test events' and it appears that when i update an event from my phone, i get a notification.but when i update an event from my pc, my phone does not give me a notification.

I installed handcent and really really like it but how do I stop the default messaging app from popping up with alerts for new texts. It keeps popping up on the top bar whenever I get a text from anyone even after accessing that text in Handcent. Close it and the home screen still shows a "1" on it as though we haven't read it. How do we set it so that once a message is read, its closed.
View 3 Replies View RelatedA few days ago the GPS notification icon started popping up at the top of my screen at random without me even running an app that requires GPS. I have tried to kill any app that potentially uses GPS with taskiller, disabling GPS all-together, and rebooting my phone to get it to go away. The only temporary solution I have found is to enter and then exit google maps. That works for a little while but then, bam, out of nowhere the little satellite icon appears again. I don't mind if it is just a little glitch and my GPS isn't actually being accessed, but if it is, that is a serious hit to my battery life. I haven't noticed a dramatic change in battery life since it started happening but I do seem to get less time out of the phone. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, is it a big deal and how do you fix it?

The stock messaging app won't stop notifications even if they're turned off...even if the app is deleted? If mms.apk is installed, it keeps notifying me even though it's notifications is turned off. If I remove mms.apk it keeps notifying me that I have 0 new messages. I've tried rebooting, reinstalling and removing. I'm running a sdx kitchen rom with meatkernel 2.0.9/no jit and I have ChompSMS installed. I don't understand how the app can keep notifying me if it's uninstalled? Other than this, the rom has been rock solid with good bat life, so I don't want to flash to stock and start all over for the 5th time this week.

Same thing happens to everyone I send a group text to - they end up with a bunch of replies from people they don't know. This might be surprising to the software developers, but most of us have more than two friends, and those friends don't all know each other. It would be awesome if this feature could be turned off so that people aren't unnecessarily subjected to spam from others, who certainly don't intend for a large audience to see their replies.
This usually just results in confusion about who they're getting all these messages from, and I end up getting a bunch of "who is this" messages too. It's a really dopey feature because it definitely destroys privacy, and now my friends/family think they can't reply to my texts without others being able to read their responses.
Even I think twice about responding to a text now because I don't want a bunch of people who I don't know reading a response I intend only a friend to see, and I really don't want to end up with about 15 "who's this?" texts.
Is there any way to turn this off, or are we stuck with this "feature"?
First post here. I tried searching (a lot) and couldn't find the answer. You know the box that pops up when you send a text that asks what app you want to use? There is a message at the bottom that tells you how to change defaults once you check the "don't ask me again" box. I didn't bother to read that and now can't find where to change the default. Anyone know or can someone look at that box and read what it says at the bottom? I can't anymore since I chose a default and the box no longer pops up.

I just changed to using Handcent SMS instead of the default messaging app and i cannot find out how to stop the notifications from the default messager app, because now it shows 2 notifications, one for each app, and select them, it will take me to the message, but i'll have to manually clear the notifications. Anyone know a fix for this?

View 6 Replies View Relatedmaybe it's because I'm spoiled with my Hero. My wife just got the moment and I really dislike the SMS UI. Its all black, and just says ME: Other Persons name: no avatar etc. Anyone know if theres a way to show the contacts avatar/image just like the Hero? I hate to install handcent for functionality that basically already exists by default. I Know it doesnt have popup's etc like handcent, but unless theres another app out there? I just hate to install app after app taking up memory.

Is there any way to replace the default messaging app's screen with Hand cent?
