HTC Incredible :: Change Default Messaging App
May 9, 2010First post here. I tried searching (a lot) and couldn't find the answer. You know the box that pops up when you send a text that asks what app you want to use? There is a message at the bottom that tells you how to change defaults once you check the "don't ask me again" box. I didn't bother to read that and now can't find where to change the default. Anyone know or can someone look at that box and read what it says at the bottom? I can't anymore since I chose a default and the box no longer pops up.

Jul 20, 2010I've been using LP for about a week (it's great BTW!) and this just started to happen so it could have something to do with the latest update. I've set LP at the default launcher and everything works great. However, if I ever long press the "home" button, go to an application, then press "home" again I get the popup asking me which launcher I want to use. I check the "set as default" box then select LP and everything is good again. It all works until I long press home the next time, then the remembered default is gone and I get the prompt again. I've tried rebooting, clearing defaults, etc.

Oct 28, 2011First of all I have a Sprint Epic Touch 4G AKA Samsung Galaxy 2 S and not rooted,
I keep getting prompt to select which launcher(launcher or twlauncher) when I press the home button. I would select set as default and then select twlauncher. This would work fine and I could do what I want and the home button acts normally. BUT if I long press the home button to bring up task manager and a list of recent apps, it would break the default setting on twlauncher. I could go to setting and manage app and see that the default on twlauncher is now cleared even though I did not manually clear it. I tried checking set as default and then select launcher. It too won't stick AFTER I long press the home button.
Long story short, I downloaded several launchers from the market and none of them will stay set as default IF I long press the home button. It breaks the default every time and ask me to select the launcher to use when I press the home button. Now this would be great if I could just delete all the other launcher and have only one but I can't delete the stock launcher or twlauncher.
So the first time this happen, I was driving down the road using telenav when I see the prompt to select which launcher(something that I've never seen after using the phone for 2 weeks).
1. Start task manager and kill all active app and clear memory from RAM
2. Clear defaults from manage application....twlauncher
3. Click home button, click set as default and then launcher instead of twlauncher- still does not stick after long press home button.
4. Manage application...twlauncher CLEAR DATA (sure enough my neatly organized homepage and apps folder was reset to stock).
5. Pull battery
6. Cycle power on and off.
7. Gave up after 24 hours and factory reset the phone.
8. Went on my merry way and reinstall apps and customizing home page and apps pages and so on.
9. In hindsight, I should have long press home button every time I installed a new app to see which one will break the default.
10. Phone works fine for 24 hours and then it mysteriously acts up again. It ask me to choose which launcher again.
11. Went back to googling and tried the following which did not work:
a. clear media hub data and default
b. installed Sprint "clean" ID and then later deleting it.
c. installed go launcher and see if it will stick
d. installed launcher pro
e. installed home switcher
f. I don't have Qik or some child lock apps
g. search XDA and found about 15 threads and tried everything in those thread short of using Titanium to freeze one launcher.
Right now I just won't long press the home button to bring up task manager or recent apps and everything will work just fine. Minor annoyance but I guess I can live with it until the ICS update.

Aug 22, 2010I just installed the froyo leak and bought launcher pro plus. When I use the messaging and people widget the contact pictures don't show but under my contact list it shows the pictures. So im wondering if you guys have any solutions. Also under the social networking logo widget when I resize it it doesn't show the text, only a blurry picture. So im wondering if you guys have any solutions?

Nov 4, 2010I'm sure I'm missing something stupid. I've turned off notifications in the stock Messaging app (I'm pretty sure). And those look different (they have the green text bubble as the icon). Can anyone clue me in as to what that 2nd notification is below the blue Handcent icon? And can I get rid of it? I'd like to keep the text messages private is why I ask - I have Handcent and the stock Messages under App Protector. And I have Handcent's option checked to not show messages in the bar, just the notification.

I just changed to using Handcent SMS instead of the default messaging app and i cannot find out how to stop the notifications from the default messager app, because now it shows 2 notifications, one for each app, and select them, it will take me to the message, but i'll have to manually clear the notifications. Anyone know a fix for this?

Its all black, and just says ME: Other Persons name: no avatar etc. Anyone know if theres a way to show the contacts avatar/image just like the Hero? I hate to install handcent for functionality that basically already exists by default. I Know it doesnt have popup's etc like handcent, but unless theres another app out there? I just hate to install app after app taking up memory.

Nov 29, 2009I am having some problems with the default messaging app. Everything was fine until I downloaded Handcent. After playing around with Handcent, I decided to remove it. After I did, when I tried to send a picture with the default client, it would appear to send properly, but the person I was sending too would get a notification that the attached media was 'too large' or something similar, and not be able to view the picture Finally, I reinstalled Handcent and could send pictures from it just fine. I noticed that Handcent asks to resize pictures when sending where the default app does not. I could not find any settings for 'resize' in the default app. I figured I just had a bug with the default client, and continued to use Handcent with no problems. I would periodically check the default client, with the same results.Finally, after several days of using nothing BUT Handcent, I decided to give the default app another try, and now I find that it is working again with no problems, and in fact, the pictures I send with it that are apparently NOT resized look better on the phones I send them to than the ones I send with Handcent. Has anyone else had a problem like this, or know what could be going on?
