HTC Desire :: Best Video Convert Settings?
Jul 22, 2010
I have tried to put some .avi videos on my Desire but when I watch them it either plays for a few seconds then comes up with "This video cannot be played" or it doesn't play at all. Also it doesn't play full screen. So from searching thru the forums here, i have found that I need to have the videos in mp4 format and Any Video Converter seems to be the way to do it. Can anyone assist me with what convert settings to use to get optimum video playback on the HTC DEsire?

I have a Android app. It receives videos in .flv format which is unplayable by the Android phone. I was wondering how to convert the file to MP4. I could use FFMPEG, but I do not know how I would get it onto the phone, and how it would work on multiple phones if it was compiled for a single one.

I was trying to send some .gif files to some friends via WhatsApp and I realised that it doesn't actually send them as .gif files, it converts them to .jpg files?
Is there any way I can convert them on my Android device to small video files so I can send them via WhatsApp?

I'm creating 3GP videos with the Android - however, when the 3GP files are posted on a site, the same Android phone cannot view it back. (The file works on the iPhone).
What is right way to encode/resize the 3GP video so that the video player on Android can play it back?

I took a few movies using the high 1280x720 setting, then uploaded over Bluetooth to my new iMac. I can view them fine, but iMovie will not import them (and it does import mp4), and MPEGStreamclip will not allow me to convert them.(or even view them. audio is there but no video) says error: no movie frame. Would supersuck if this is real. Can anyone else confirm this?

I asked a while back about the correct video resolution for the Hero, but now I want to know; I'm converting a few of my movies, and they're in that super super thing widescreen format, and when I convert them to 480x320, they're stretched at the top. Does anyone know what to convert them to so they're not? I'm really bad at resolutions

I've tried a few but all of them had to stretch or resize in some way or another. I was wondering if there was a great piece of software out there that could optimize video for this lovely screen. I heard samsung was in the process of making one for its "itunes" program but nothing else besides that.

I have the htc droid Incredible Froyo installed. I'm shooting 1280x720 video. I've downloaded the 3gpp video/audio files to my computer and want to burn them to a cd or dvd.
How do I convert the 3gpp audio/video files to a format that can be viewed with a dvd player or on another computer? Do you know of any Conversion software that will accomplish this?
I have a 22 minute video shot at 720p resolution which consumed 1.24GB.

Any app that allows you to download and convert flash video directly on your Android device? If I knew how to develop android apps I would attempt this myself. I use youtube downloader on firefox and was wondering if there was a similar app for that on Android.

I was recently in a debate on a linkedin forum over HTC Desire v iPhone. My view is the people who chose the android device do so because they like the better technology and hate the closed nature of the evil Apple empire. His view was that the only people who buy the android are kids who would really prefer an iPhone but cannot afford it! I was therefore wondering if there are any desire users out there who have converted from iPhone and if so which device do they prefer.

Sorry if this has been asked, but I don't remember seeing such a thread over the past few weeks.Basically, what do people recommend for settings for MMS messages? Every time a shoot a video, it says it's too large. I've even tried shooting <8second videos.I know that Froyo is supposed to have a tool to optimize videos for YouTube and mms, but we all know that's months away for us DI owners. If you don't have basic settings options, is there an app for it?

I have a load of DVDs and am going on holiday with my HTC Desire. I want to be able to play them on the phone, but the file format is all in VOB files. I tried to convert them to MP4 with a free converter, but it stalled. Are they protected by something, and do I need to convert all the separate VOB files? Is there a dummies guide of how to do this?

This is the first phone I've owned with video capture available (LG Rumor, Instinct, Pre) and I notice there are a variety of settings available when it comes to video. One video I had recorded earlier today seemed more choppy with the exact same settings than another I took yesterday, the only difference I could really note was there was much more light in today's video. So is there a secret to beautiful video every time?

I'm having a bit of trouble getting videos to play on my HTC Evo with Android 2.1. I have several videos that I play on my PSP, and work just fine. However, when I transferred them over to my Evo's MicroSD card and tried to play them in any video player, they only played the audio stream, and no picture was shown. I never had trouble getting PSP-formatted videos to work on phones before; they worked n my G1 just fine. I assumed that because the Evo and PSP even had similar-sized screens, it would be even more compatible. It sounds somewhat foolish when I type it out, but one could expect it to work. I have tried playing it in the stock video player, the Meridian player, and the Video Player app from the android market, and they all had the same error. The file is an .mp4; and, as I said, gave me no problems when played in the PSP's video player.
Here's the specifications on the video file:
Type: MPEG4
Video Codec: AVC
Audio Codec: AAC
Size: 25 MB
Length: 00:23:41
Width: 480
Height: 272
Aspect Ratio: 16:9
Data Rate: 99kbps
Total Bitrate: 147 kbps
Frame Rate: 23 fps
