Samsung Moment : 720x480 Video Resolution Playback
Apr 18, 2010I did a search in the Moment forum for this but no results showed up. Is there any way, whether through a particular media player app or just some special method, to get videos with 720x480 resolution to play on the Moment or is that something that just simply can't be done? I have lots of videos that came already formatted that way and would hate to have to convert them all to play on it.

Aug 27, 2010Been struggling with this since receiving my X. Seems like no matter what player I use the playback is jerky. It's very subtle, almost as if the video is dropping a frame or so every second. I've tried the stock player, Astro, Rockplayer, mPlayer, Zimly, Act, and the list goes on and the problem still persists.
I've encoded (using handbrake) with all of the settings suggested on the boards and have tweaked things on my own trying to find the proper setting, but still no luck. The strange and frustrating thing is that the exact same files play just fine on my 1st gen iPod touch (clearly an inferior piece of hardware) and on my wife's incredible. These encodes are of standard def DVDs at average settings (a full movie is about 1.3gb, all h.264 mp4 files.
I was able to improve playback by rebooting the X and then playing the video, but this doesn't seem like an acceptable solution every time I want to watch something. I tend to encode and watch a lot of stuff on my commute to/from work, and I'd really like to replace my touch with the X, but the media capabilities are falling way short. Considering switching to the Inc as I know it's able to play my media properly, but I'd prefer to keep the X for the larger screen size (though the Inc does seem to feel better when using one-handed). I'm on the fence right now, but if the X can't function as expected then it might be going back. Unfortunately I only have until the 1st to return it so I don't think I can hold out and see if 2.2 fixes this issue.

May 14, 2010Does anyone know anything about the video playback features of the EVO 4G? I'm coming from the iPhone where playback was limited to mp4 (encoded with h.264 or ffmpeg).
Either way, this thing can supposedly handle 720p. Is a 720p mkv going to be possible on this thing or am I going to have to encode video for this and buy some special player?
That's one thing about the iPhone i'm sure I'm going to miss -- the core functions like music and video playing are built into the OS and work rock solid. With android, are there going to be a bunch of odd video players to download and try?

Jul 8, 2010Just bought my Galaxy S. Although it is a great phone, the video playback is slightly jittery. Doesnt matter if I view a hd video over all share, youtube video or a playback of a video captured off the phone. It looks slow, and the sound seems out of sync with the video.

Jul 20, 2010While going through the Galaxy S manual I noticed that mkv video files were supported. I grabbed a backup copy I have of my Avatar Blu-Ray, in mkv format. I chopped it using a muxer to 1gb and transferred it to the phone. I don't remember which specific muxer I used, but it's so that I would t have to re-render the movie.I was floored by how gorgeous the movie looks on the 4' screen. Vibrant colors, no lag during playback and very good details. For some reason the audio is not working but my avi audio playback are nice, especially with the virtual 5.1.
I played with the tone controls and the brightness. By far this is my most impressive media moment with any smartphone.What is your most impressive media moment with the device, so far?my Droidx and Evo4g coworkers are jealous. I out performed them in benchmarks and the screen "vibrancy" wins by a mile.

I can seem to watch youtube videos just fine but trying to go to other sites that have flash or streaming videos, it just doesn't play at all. Also some sites with flash will only show up with a green arrow in the area where there's supposed to be a video. I have downloaded Adobe flash and Flash AIR. Have tried multiple browsers with all having the same problems. I am also having this problem on my Viewsonic G-Tablet.

Oct 14, 2010I took a few movies using the high 1280x720 setting, then uploaded over Bluetooth to my new iMac. I can view them fine, but iMovie will not import them (and it does import mp4), and MPEGStreamclip will not allow me to convert them.(or even view them. audio is there but no video) says error: no movie frame. Would supersuck if this is real. Can anyone else confirm this?

Aug 4, 2010I have an application with a lot of media data (images and videos) that were previously stored on the sdcard. With that, images and videos are displayed fine in my app.
Now, in order to secure the content more, I wanted to move the content to the internal storage / data dir of the app, which I did. I copied all media with a routine within my app to the data folder (/data/data/com.myapp/some/folders/video.mp4) and adjusted the path in my app so that it would look for the media in the internal storage data directory and not the sdcard anymore.
Everything works fine, images are being displayed (decoded) properly, but videos don't play. They files do exist though - I do not get a FileNotFound exception. But an IOException: java.io.IOException: Prepare failed.: status=0xFFFFFFFC
Why is that? Everything is handled within my one app and the videos have been copied with the same routine as the images, thus having the same permission settings. Looking at the stack trace, it all runs in process id 18060).
Why I cannot playback the video from internal storage? Or how can I?
