Sep 15, 2010I was recently in a debate on a linkedin forum over HTC Desire v iPhone. My view is the people who chose the android device do so because they like the better technology and hate the closed nature of the evil Apple empire. His view was that the only people who buy the android are kids who would really prefer an iPhone but cannot afford it! I was therefore wondering if there are any desire users out there who have converted from iPhone and if so which device do they prefer.

Jul 22, 2010I have tried to put some .avi videos on my Desire but when I watch them it either plays for a few seconds then comes up with "This video cannot be played" or it doesn't play at all. Also it doesn't play full screen. So from searching thru the forums here, i have found that I need to have the videos in mp4 format and Any Video Converter seems to be the way to do it. Can anyone assist me with what convert settings to use to get optimum video playback on the HTC DEsire?

However, as they're saved as 'SIM' Contacts, when I go to compose a message and I type in someone's name in top box, it won't come up... it only works with Phone contacts. Is there anyway to CONVERT the SIM contacts on my Hero to Phone contacts so that I don't have to do it all manually?

Nov 12, 2010I am looking into developing an App that will convert a website into more readable data for an android app. I am at university and have an online notice board which can be viewed on the web but if possible I would like to transfer this into an app on android to make it more easy to read on mobile devices.
What I thinking is that the app would go to the website where the notice board is held and read in the html code to display each notice in a list adapter view. Each notice is within its own div so I assume I could use that to split each notice up into its own button on the list adapter view. Is this possible and if so how I can go about doing this. I have tried google for an answer but I have not yet found a solution to this problem.

Nov 16, 2010When I switched to the Samsung Fascinate from a previous non-smart phone, I transferred all of my contacts from the phone over. I think in the setup somewhere I chose to convert my contacts to Google contacts. That was really confusing at first, because I didn't know what it did, and didn't even remember I had done that until recently. I'd like to get the contacts back to phone contacts (not Google contacts) for multiple reasons, which I won't bother listing for now. So, does anyone know how to UN-convert or re-convert Google contacts back into phone contacts? I really don't want to have to recreate all of the phone contacts, because I've got a LOT of them. I would remove my Google account from the phone, but I worry that would remove all of my contacts completely, which wouldn't help me.

Oct 8, 2010I just got an HTC Desire that was locked to Telus (Canadian Carrier). I have read that numerous people are using it on Rogers network. From the day I got it when I put my rogers sim card in (the right way) it said "No SIM card in phone" so I could not enter an unlock code. Thinking the SIM was defective went to Telus and tried one of their sim cards and it worked fine, then I went to Rogers thinking it was a problematic card. We tried 4 cards and none of them worked. I then went to Bell (another canadian carrier) and tried their sim card. It worked as well but said that the phone was locked. I purchased an unlock code from the internet which worked. Now the Bell sim card works as well becuase the phone is unlocked. I put my Rogers SIM back into it and it still sais "No SIM card in phone". I also tried a SIM from a european company and it did not work as well. This HTC Desire works on the same 3G 850/1900 GSM that Rogers uses.

Now here is my question : Is there an app that will send an sms to a preallocated number if the phone is booted up with a different sim? I know some Samsung phones can do this. But having an app that requires your own sim to be able to find it if stolen is quite pointless.

So today i decide to take some movies from my phone to the hard drive and i realized that the phone records in 3gp. Why 3gp? That may be an old cell phone format but its not what todays 720p movies really record in. Does anyone have any recommendations for a conversion software or file type to convert these movies. It seems kind of useless to record movies that can only be watched back on a computer. And i know its not a canon hidef camcorder that cost over 1k. Its a cell phone.
