My HTC desire 600 is not playing 720p videos correctly. Also there is lagging in recording in low light conditions.

after updating (the official update) my HTC Desire to Froyo 2.2 I cannot capture any Video (any resolution). It happens that I press the trackball and the timer (on the upper-right corner) disappears and nothing works anymore (menu, etc...), only the Home button allow me to go back to the home panel. After doing that, the battery die in a few minutes and the phone is very slow: i.e. some video camera service is still up and running and consuming battery.

Encoding a video to the following specs and loading it on the EVO plays with the included video player perfectly. No jumping and clear, in sync sound. 720p resolution so the HDMI out should work once the cables are available. h.264 at Level 3.1, 3 reference frames and baseline profile. 1280 x 720 AAC stereo audio at 44100Hz, 128kbps Bit rate does not seem to be all that important as long as the video file is less than 2GB.Muxed to an mp4 container in IMSA standard format and optimized for streaming.

Are there any apps out there that take the movie file and apply the right codec to it so that the file can be downloaded in 720p? Is this something HTC is planning on updating or did they do it intentionally for some reason? Can I upload files to youtube from my phone in 480p?

My highest bitrate for 720p video on my class 6 card is 6Mbps.
Class 2 = 2MBps write = 16Mbps
So no need to get a class 6 card, they are not worth double the price of a class 2.

Tried doing a search but after sifting through many pages, decide to put in a new topic. I was recording a video using the HTC camcorder. Why does the video save as a .3gp format even though I selected mp4 and 720p in settings? Did I do something wrong? Is it really 720p? Did not know that 3gp had the ability to do HD video.

One question arised on my mind when reading reviews of Galaxy S - is there any video player capable of playing HD content (720p) and showing subtitles - either from srt file or directly from MKV?
There are players with subtitles support but I am afraid that to play HD content 1Ghz processor is not enough and that Galaxy's internal player is also taking advance of GPU which others players do not.

So I recorded some videos yesterday, assuming it would record in 720p by default. However when uploading to YouTube, it would only allow up to 480, not giving the option of 720p playback.
Well today, I noticed different resolutions. Is 1280x720 the 720p resolution? If so, then I may have figured it out myself.

Is there an app or website that lets you download or stream video clips (movie trailers, etc.) in 720p?
I tried youtube and selected "view in high quality" but I highly doubt it was displaying 720p.

I would like to create a video recorder and so far haven't figured out how to set parameters in order to successfully go through MediaRecorder.prepare() method. Executing the following method
public void start() throws IOException{
String state = android.os.Environment.getExternalStorageState();
if(!state.equals(Environment.MEDIA_MOUNTED))
{
throw new IOException("SD card is not mounted. It is " + state + ".");
}
File directory = new File(path).getParentFile();
if(!directory.exists() && !directory.mkdirs())
{
throw new IOException("Path to file could not be created.");
}
recorder.setVideoSource(MediaRecorder.VideoSource.CAMERA);
recorder.setOutputFormat(MediaRecorder.OutputFormat.THREE_GPP);
recorder.setVideoEncoder(MediaRecorder.VideoEncoder.H263);
recorder.setVideoFrameRate(15);
recorder.setVideoSize(176, 144);
recorder.setOutputFile(path);
recorder.prepare();
recorder.start();
this.state = VideoRecorderState.STATE_RECORDING;
}
it throws an exception on line recorder.prepare(). Does anyone know how to set parameters in order to be able to capture video?

I would like to be able to capture the video from an android phone camera, and then process this video. Processing involves adding a layer of AR to the live stream. Is this possible on android? Pretty sure it should be. I have looked at the android site [http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/media/index.html] but this seems to be concerned with video capture and storage. I would like to be able to play with the video pre-storage.

One of the alternative app stores is asking for unaltered, unedited capture from the app as a video. Plus I'm also interested in cleaner video than I get by focusing a camcorder on an Android on a table. Who knows how to do that? I think I found some posts that indicate Mark Murphy may have solved this with a tool that goes through DDMS. If so, I'll get that tool and donate.

When using 2.2 on the HTC Desire, select ISO 800 in the photo settings, rather than auto, then switch camera to video as normal. This will considerably reduce the flickering / stuttering during playback when recording at 720p.
