HTC 4G :: Does EVO Support Apple Lossless?
Jul 6, 2010
My entire CD collection is ripped in the Apple Lossless format (.m4a). I tried dragging some of the tracks to my EVO, but it does not recognize the tags, and it won't even play them. I had no problem doing this on my Pre. Therefore, I can only assume that the format, shocking as it may be, is not supported by either the EVO or perhaps by Android in general. Is this correct?

Okie dokie, so my iPod Classic has taken a trip into a small stream (oops! don't ask me how...)Can't exactly afford another one just yet, so I was going to use my Desire as a stand in for the time being. Only problem is maybe 90% of my library is Apple Lossless encoded, which the Desire won't play! I really don't want to have to sit there converting everything and having duplicates all over the place. Is there any software that will allow me to play this codec on the Desire?

I would appreciate to hear from you what would be the available options in Android to perform a lossless jpeg rotation of a jpeg image -> Rearranging the image data from landscape to portrait by rotation without ever fully decoding the image. My problem is that my device's camera always take the images in landscape mode and sometimes I would need to rotate the image to portrait to be used in my application. This takes time and memory if I need to do it in the standard way (decode the image, apply rotation operation to the pixels and encode again). Doing it without decoding the image would bring a significant improvement in performance. I have seen that in Android platform (Cupcake) jpegtran.c (which performs this operation beautifully) is available under /external/jpeg but this functionality is not available (a.f.a.k) on the application framework. How can I use this function? I guess I need to use JNI to be able to access this functionality, right? Other ways? Could you give me any hint on how I could do this or if there is another easier and quicker way to do it?

Okay I've spent a lot of time searching forums, googling, and all that, but as far as I know, there is not a single player that supports gapless playback for mp3 files. I have found an app that can play lossless audio: andLess, but it crashes all the time on my Droid X. I haven't rooted yet, although I plan on doing it after the 2.2 update, but I'll throw away my plans if it means I can actually turn my phone into a competent music player. Is there any app out there that does those two things? I'll even settle for having two separate apps for each, but I don't see how this is so difficult an app to make. When I first got my phone, I was happy that I would no longer have any use for my iPod touch, but this is just saddening.

Here is a little comparison of the browsers. Since the iPhone is shipping with similar specs it should also be a decent comparison of it.

Let me preface this by saying that up until about 9 months ago, I loved my iPhone 3G. Every software update, however, the phone became increasingly slow and frustrating to use. My contract with AT&T was due to expire early September, and I was looking for a new phone to replace it. Unlike many other people that I know, I have had very little trouble with AT&T (their overly high prices notwithstanding), but Apple's general stance on personal freedom and openness I have a serious problem with.
Without boring everyone with the mundane details of how I decided on the Evo, suffice it to say that I am now a (very) proud owner of one as of 8:45am this morning.
After only using the Evo for a few hours, saying I am blown away is an understatement; not only with the Evo's hardware, but with Sense UI and Android in general. From the dedicated menu and back buttons, to notifications, to wireless updates...there is just so much forethought put into every aspect, that it's hard to not be impressed.
After picking my iPhone back up (as I said, after only a few hours), the entire UI and overall software design in general seems so incredibly archaic. This would be understandable, given that it's a 3G (and now over 2 years old), but the sad fact of the matter is that new Apple hardware is running this same software -- even the 'praised' iPad!!
I can say nothing other than "how embarrassing" for Apple, and I really mean that. Android isn't just slightly better, or an "alternative"; it's what Apple should have been striving to do -- be creative and innovative. A quaint little grid of icons, an awful "notification" system, and an overall lack of compatibility (Flash?) are just more nails in the coffin for Apple.
After reading reviews on the Evo and Android in general over the past month or two, I feel very mislead by all of the reviewers (in iPhone vs Droid comparisons) that completely failed to mention this very obvious fact. The idea that anyone would ever buy an iPad (with the same awful software) after experiencing what Android is capable of makes me nauseous.
Needless to say, I absolutely love my Evo thus far. The question for my iPhone now becomes: "Will it blend?"

Apple Airplay seems quite impressive and it is possible that it might gain some momentum. As an owner of both Android and Apple products I'm thinking that it would have been great if it was possible for Android devices to support the protocol to send/receive audio/video either trough the OS or an application. I suspect that there might be both legal and technical obstructions. What do you think - Will there be AirPlay support for Android?

Ok so whenever Apple has something "special" or "magical" they hold a press conference, show off the device or software and generate huge industry buzz and keep the fanboys apple-boners hard. Take the iPad and recent iPhone OS4. Yeah people came out and said they hate what they are a closed system, but 700,000+ iPads sold obviously was generated by the press conference/unveiling. So my question is, why don't Verizon, Google and HTC team up and unveil the incredible a month or so in advance? Do pre-sales and make it happen. sounds simple and lucrative.Without it being unveiled this forum has generated 31k+ replies and 1.8 million views on the **Official** thread for the Incredible and its NOT EVEN OUT YET.

I know this is probably painful to the readers eyes. but does anyone know of a calendar application which is like the Apple Iphone one? it has a great feature where you see if a day has an event via a dot, if you select/highlight this day, then in the margin at the bottom of the screen you see a scrollable list of the days events. I like this as I don't, have to switch from day view to month view, or click each day in turn to see upcoming events. I really don't want to have to learn the SDK to write my own, so here's hoping...

i thought zagg looked pretty cool in the beginning. then i started to read about their screen protectors not being so great and it lost some appeal.
i waited to see if the zagg skins would come out for the evo because i liked the idea of being able to customize it. they still haven't come out with a customizable zagg skin for the evo. BUT they are ready for the iphone 4.
what a lame way to shun all the non-apple people!

At work everyone has an ipod/iphone so we commonly share the same Apple wall charger (I have an ipod.. it was a gift and is soon to be sold). Obviously Apple uses there proprietary charger as far as plugging into the device itself but the wall charger itself just uses a standard USB. My question is, can I connect the Incredible's USB cable to the Apple wall charger and successfully charge the phone without any repercussions? I'd like to avoid having to take my charger to work everyday (not allowed to connect devices to our highly monitored computers).

I've read around that the Apple headphones with the microphone do not work with the X. But all the threads I've read that from are from a while ago. What I've learned is that apparently other headphones with mics will work but these will not pickup your voice through the mic, and the volume and click buttons will not work. My question to you is, did anybody get these headphones to work with the mic and buttons? How did you get it to work? It seems to me that it is a software issue because other headphones will work, so has anybody configured there phone in a way to make it happen?
