View 8 Replies View RelatedI've read around that the Apple headphones with the microphone do not work with the X. But all the threads I've read that from are from a while ago. What I've learned is that apparently other headphones with mics will work but these will not pickup your voice through the mic, and the volume and click buttons will not work. My question to you is, did anybody get these headphones to work with the mic and buttons? How did you get it to work? It seems to me that it is a software issue because other headphones will work, so has anybody configured there phone in a way to make it happen?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just tried to use my apple earbuds with the mic and while I could hear the other party, they could not hear me.
Are no mics supported with the Droid X, or just the apple ones?
Apple really ticked me off with their latest stupid video.. Check out my article where i cover their latest video and have my own response to its ignorance. Apple's New Slogan Should Be, "When we mess up, everyone does!" NOTE: I do not dislike Apple products, I dislike Apple.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been using a LG Voyager (Christmas gift) and a 32gb Ipod touch for the last 2 years biding my time, loathing my 2 year contract and waiting for the release of the Iphone 4 but then the droid X was announced and have spent my time since obsessing over previews, reviews, specs, hands on Youtube videos, news articles and everything Android. And this is the conclusion I have come to.
I have been following Droid X news and reviews hardcore for the last 3 weeks as well as Apple/Iphone 4 news.
Apple is desperately trying to maintain the crown while the castle walls crumble around them. The Droid X truly is the first of I'm sure many Android contenders coming within the next 2 years. Unlike the Evo 4g it is on the Verizon network and packs more features and stability than any other phone with the exception of the Iphone that finishes first only by a spider hair.
In the past 2 weeks Apple has dispatched "rumor spys" to announce "IPHONE COMING TO VERIZON!!"
Yeah well we've been hearing that for a year now. But I am actually certain this time the rumors ARE true. But the point is the usually secretive "Apple" all the sudden has leaks just in time for the Droid X release.
Today I read that Apple has said that the antenna issue isn't the problem. They say it was a "flaw" with Iphone software displaying better reception (more bars) than there actually was and that when bridging the wifi and cell antennas touching the two at once users were displaying the "actual" coverage. Well this tells us two things.
1. Apple knew that AT&t had sub par coverage that wouldn't be able to handle data heavy phones and it would show.
2. Apple tried to cover the bad AT&T coverage by making the coverage look better than it is.
Why would they do that you ask? Well think about it. When the Iphone 1g was first released there weren't many "smart phones" that also included the multimedia hand held entertainment aspect. You had Blackberry that did a lot of innovative business things but lacked any real fun. Then along came the admittedly awesome, futuristic, and fun Iphone with tons of apps and features.
The phone was expensive for its time and no matter how much the phone could do it would be hard to do all the great things in less than a month especially on a completely new un matured product. So imagine you go buy this Iphone and you know you have 30 days to see whether you like it but the first thing you notice is all the places the phone doesn't get reception. The last thing Apple wanted was bad press at a time when the whole world was lauding their greatness. Another news story that broke today was that an app maker had figured out how to hack into the Itunes App Market and charge random Itunes users for his products thus launching 40 of his apps to top status. Apple just got around to fixing this problem even though it has been ongoing for some time. Well all the secrets are coming out now. And Apple is scrambling while the bad news keeps coming and they watch their stock plummet as fast as Ilemmings off a cliff and into the ocean. But none of this recent disaster is Apple's biggest problem. The problem is while all this bad Apple press is lingering Iphone competitors sporting an ever improving Android operating system are releasing innovative envelope pushing products every month while Apple and mac fanatics will be waiting at least 1 1/2 to 2 years respectively for Apples next Iphone hardware update that will again be adding new "original features" to compete with the technological competition that came since it's last game of catch up.
So I bought and Apple handsfree set (stereo headphones and mic) for the Droid. I can't seem to hang up on a call by clicking the mic. I can accept calls by clicking on the mic, but clicking on the mic while in a call seems to just mute the phone. That's a useful feature, but does anyone know how to hang up on a call using the Apple handsfree set on the Droid?

View 4 Replies View RelatedIm new to the forums here, I have a Droid currently running Froyo and I have been thinking about rooting my phone. I recently picked up and Apple IBook G3 and I was curious if I will have any problems rooting on the Apple OSX. The main reason I'm asking is because I have noticed that some roots require using the command prompt in Windows. I did search the forums for anything I could find but didn't really find anything useful.
The root I am planning on using is Soup or Root. This will be my first endeavor in to Rooting. PS- Mods if I posted this in the wrong place please move it to the correct one

Can anyone tell me what this is and what this does? I figure the best place to ask is here.
Here is a little comparison of the browsers. Since the iPhone is shipping with similar specs it should also be a decent comparison of it.
View 19 Replies View RelatedMy entire CD collection is ripped in the Apple Lossless format (.m4a). I tried dragging some of the tracks to my EVO, but it does not recognize the tags, and it won't even play them. I had no problem doing this on my Pre. Therefore, I can only assume that the format, shocking as it may be, is not supported by either the EVO or perhaps by Android in general. Is this correct?
View 28 Replies View RelatedLet me preface this by saying that up until about 9 months ago, I loved my iPhone 3G. Every software update, however, the phone became increasingly slow and frustrating to use. My contract with AT&T was due to expire early September, and I was looking for a new phone to replace it. Unlike many other people that I know, I have had very little trouble with AT&T (their overly high prices notwithstanding), but Apple's general stance on personal freedom and openness I have a serious problem with.
Without boring everyone with the mundane details of how I decided on the Evo, suffice it to say that I am now a (very) proud owner of one as of 8:45am this morning.
After only using the Evo for a few hours, saying I am blown away is an understatement; not only with the Evo's hardware, but with Sense UI and Android in general. From the dedicated menu and back buttons, to notifications, to wireless updates...there is just so much forethought put into every aspect, that it's hard to not be impressed.
After picking my iPhone back up (as I said, after only a few hours), the entire UI and overall software design in general seems so incredibly archaic. This would be understandable, given that it's a 3G (and now over 2 years old), but the sad fact of the matter is that new Apple hardware is running this same software -- even the 'praised' iPad!!
I can say nothing other than "how embarrassing" for Apple, and I really mean that. Android isn't just slightly better, or an "alternative"; it's what Apple should have been striving to do -- be creative and innovative. A quaint little grid of icons, an awful "notification" system, and an overall lack of compatibility (Flash?) are just more nails in the coffin for Apple.
After reading reviews on the Evo and Android in general over the past month or two, I feel very mislead by all of the reviewers (in iPhone vs Droid comparisons) that completely failed to mention this very obvious fact. The idea that anyone would ever buy an iPad (with the same awful software) after experiencing what Android is capable of makes me nauseous.
Needless to say, I absolutely love my Evo thus far. The question for my iPhone now becomes: "Will it blend?"
When connecting my Evo to a computer, there is an "Internet Sharing" option. I am curious to know, does this cost extra monthly? I know the wifi tether is the extra $30 a month, but will this charge me the same?
I only have interest in rooting my phone if it's the only way to share internet with my Netbook. Wifi isn't all that important to me, and seeing as I've completely and utterly failed at doing the Unrevoked method for rooting... I'm hoping I won't actually have to root my phone after all.
Apple Airplay seems quite impressive and it is possible that it might gain some momentum. As an owner of both Android and Apple products I'm thinking that it would have been great if it was possible for Android devices to support the protocol to send/receive audio/video either trough the OS or an application. I suspect that there might be both legal and technical obstructions. What do you think - Will there be AirPlay support for Android?

View 11 Replies View RelatedOk so whenever Apple has something "special" or "magical" they hold a press conference, show off the device or software and generate huge industry buzz and keep the fanboys apple-boners hard. Take the iPad and recent iPhone OS4. Yeah people came out and said they hate what they are a closed system, but 700,000+ iPads sold obviously was generated by the press conference/unveiling. So my question is, why don't Verizon, Google and HTC team up and unveil the incredible a month or so in advance? Do pre-sales and make it happen. sounds simple and lucrative.Without it being unveiled this forum has generated 31k+ replies and 1.8 million views on the **Official** thread for the Incredible and its NOT EVEN OUT YET.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI know this is probably painful to the readers eyes. but does anyone know of a calendar application which is like the Apple Iphone one? it has a great feature where you see if a day has an event via a dot, if you select/highlight this day, then in the margin at the bottom of the screen you see a scrollable list of the days events. I like this as I don't, have to switch from day view to month view, or click each day in turn to see upcoming events. I really don't want to have to learn the SDK to write my own, so here's hoping...
