General :: How To Root Tablet Without Computer
Oct 10, 2011Mine is a froyo 2.2.1 device (ViewSonice VB730), I tried z4root, instant root, DPRoot, and many many many rooting apk but it is not working, some of them are FC or some of them are stucking in "attempting to apply root" I tried to use SuperOneClick but since I can't find a suitable driver for it, so when I use "adb devices", the list is empty.
I also checked out about some article about how to manually root a devices with PC, seems I have to copy the necessary file first to /data then run the exploit. Since I dont have the driver, I tried to do it with Terminal Emulator and tried to grand access right of /data but failed.
cd /data/
$ ls
ls: can't open '.' : Permission denied
$ chmod 777/data
chmod: /data. Operation not permitted

I tried framaroot, Ezinox abuse, root Z4, thru terminal with motochopper method and nothing!! my gs3 is 6 months old but i lost warranty, My only chance to build a method for the i747 gs3

Sep 29, 2013I should have rooted a couple months ago as I now cannot get my Charge to recognize a USB connection with any computer. Computer recognizes something is trying to connect but computer gives me a USB Device Not Recognized message. It charges the phone when connected to the computer but doesn't ask me how I want to use the phone (as a mass storage device or media player) any more. To make a long story short, I have tried everything - different USB cables, different USB ports, different computers, USB debug on and off, Ask on Connection and Mass Storage settings on and off. Have even gone thru several master resets of the phone and still will not recognize a computer connection.
Would love to root and hold on to this thing for at least a little longer, so my last thought is to ask if it's possible to root this device without a computer connection. From what I've read through on some forum threads it's possible with some phones, just want to know if using some of the methodology its possible.

Oct 25, 2010When I plug my phone into the computer and mount it, I get "F" and "G" drive showing up. When I click on "F" the folders that show up are "DCIM" "download" and "sounds" if I click on "DCIM" inside there I get "camera" and "music". I believe that's the SD card because when I open "DCIM" then into "Camera" I see all of the pictures and video that Ive taken.
One problem I had today was I tried to add a couple of pictures directly into the "camera" folder, from my computer, I see them in there, close everything down, unplug the phone, open up gallery and those pics just refuse to show up?? . .(I'm pretty sure its not a size issue they were relatively small files) Next is the "G" drive. I click on that and see "albumthumbs" "android" "bluetooth" "DCIM" "download" "music" "sd" (which shows up as a hidden folder) "sounds" and "where". When I click on the "DCIM" folder in this drive I get ".thumbnails" and "camera" Inside the "thumbnail" folder I see a mixture of some pictures I've taken and any pictures I've saved from text or email.
I have no idea if this is the way the phone should show up when I plug it in. the two trees of folders seem very confusing. when you plug your captivate in that has an SD card, how should it look when you hit "my computer" If you could give me a scenario of the "folder" tree, or trees. that would be cool.

Free in the Market.Go to Dropbox - Home - Online backup, file sync and sharing made easy. and download that to your computer. Sign up for it, it is cloud based file sharing. It's awesome, I use it every day. Already a user, great.On your pc, go download the root update file here: SGH-I897 Root Update.zip - File Shared from Box.net - Free Online File Storage Rename it to update.zipOpen up your dropbox and put it in the "public" folder.Now on your Captivate, open up dropbox and sign in.Open the public folder and tap the file "update.zip" to download it.Now open up Linda file manager.Tap "SD card", open the folder "dropbox". open "public", then tap and hold "update.zip". I am however having trouble comprehending how google syncs my contacts. I have my contacts set up exactly how i want them on my google account online i.e. co workers freinds family grouping. I would like my phone to display the contacts in the same fashion, but it seems the google sync is only one way from my phone to my account and not the other way around.
How can i get my contacts to sync from my google account so that they show up as i have them set up online without having to do every individual one on the phone.

Oct 27, 2010I was running the JI6 2.2 with cognition beta5.5 and was attempting to update however I needed to swap kernels since the current kernel didn't verify signatures. I was using vmware on a mac and i started it but then continued to use the mac side however the computer disconnected the phone from the windows side and now it is stuck showing an image of a phone next to a computer with a triangle with a ! in it between the two. Pressing all hardware buttons does nothing but black the screen and go back to the same screen. I've taken out the battery, sim, unplugged the cord, everything. Can't get back into download mode to redo the kernal swap. It's definitely connected to a valid, and working, usb port and i am now on windows itself instead of vmware. What do I do?
