While I was flashing 2.2 my computer blue screened interrupting the process. Now when I attempt to turn on my phone. All I get is a picture of a phone in and a computer with a little exclamation mark in between it.

So I don't own a captivate, but I do own another Galaxy S phone, the Vibrant.The vibrant forums, people aren't really responding to the blue tint. So i'm wondering if you guys on the captivate have noticed that everything that should be white, such as a white broweser window, is actually tinted blue?If this is your first smartphone you won't notice probably, but if you own a prior LCD smartphone, try putting your screens next to eachother. Does the Galaxy S look blue?

View 9 Replies View RelatedOkay -- so I finally mustered up the courage to root and try a lag fix. I rooted using the unleash the beast files. And then tried the lag fix over at XDA found here: xda-developers - View Single Post - [UTIL] One Click Lag Fix 2.0
I ran the lagfix_ext2, like the forum says -- it took about 10 minutes to do some things ...There was an error message in the middle saying that it had to stop the process. I said okay, but the process kept working, finished, and then rebooted. It booted up, and I downloaded quadrant again (it was gone for some reason), ran it, and only ran an 895 -- this is 16 points less than what i ran just using the unleash the beast. Should I try the lag fix again?
Today I lost my GPS flashing icon at the top of the screen and my GPS will not connect. I checked my settings and both the wireless and the GPS are clicked on. Any ideas?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I plug my phone into the computer and mount it, I get "F" and "G" drive showing up. When I click on "F" the folders that show up are "DCIM" "download" and "sounds" if I click on "DCIM" inside there I get "camera" and "music". I believe that's the SD card because when I open "DCIM" then into "Camera" I see all of the pictures and video that Ive taken.
One problem I had today was I tried to add a couple of pictures directly into the "camera" folder, from my computer, I see them in there, close everything down, unplug the phone, open up gallery and those pics just refuse to show up?? . .(I'm pretty sure its not a size issue they were relatively small files) Next is the "G" drive. I click on that and see "albumthumbs" "android" "bluetooth" "DCIM" "download" "music" "sd" (which shows up as a hidden folder) "sounds" and "where". When I click on the "DCIM" folder in this drive I get ".thumbnails" and "camera" Inside the "thumbnail" folder I see a mixture of some pictures I've taken and any pictures I've saved from text or email.
I have no idea if this is the way the phone should show up when I plug it in. the two trees of folders seem very confusing. when you plug your captivate in that has an SD card, how should it look when you hit "my computer" If you could give me a scenario of the "folder" tree, or trees. that would be cool.
I'm trying to install the leaked official 2.2 froyo update (I897UCJI6-OCD-REV02-Low.exe) that I picked up from Cognition over on XDA but when I run the Odin one click downloader it hangs at <ID:0/006> Added!!

I removed the battery and restarted and flashed the factory ATT ROM and that worked fine. Why this is just hanging up on install. Seems everyone else who's downloaded it had no trouble. I've tried the file direct from design gears and also the mirror on multiupload.
So I've been tinkering around with Odin and flashing to the many firmwares floating around- the latest is the JFM6 i9000 firmware.. Which also included flashing the CSC and kernel..
My question is, since I flashed the csc and kernel, how do I flash back to the stock JF6 rom that came with the phone? Just the pit and .tar (pda)? I have the firmware and the pit file.. just wondering what is entailed because of flashing the additional csc and kernel files as well.
I noticed I was getting barely any reception after flashing cognition 2.2 so I used Odin to change back to stock. I still get barely any reception no matter where I go, and I'm not sure what the problem is. Any help would be much appreciated.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI have read a ton of articles on this site, XDA, and other about doing a pre-official upgrade to Froyo on my captivate and then rooting it. This is officially the correct way to do it. The easiest way I found. And of course I am not responsible if you mess your phone up in the process.
Step One:
Download all the drivers you can find for the captivate. Install them without plugging the phone in, and then plug the phone in and let windows pick up any additional drivers. (Plug the phone in and let it find drivers, then mount it and let it find more if possible.)Driver Links: 64 bit Windows. STEP TWO:
Open Kies and plug your captivate in. Let it go through the loading and discovering the phone and all that song and dance. Also, check and see if your firmware can be updated. It is really easy to get the update through Kies. If there is any kind of updates, go ahead and do it. Even if your phone is already rooted, upgrading to 2.2 is going to delete everything you have anyways.
STEP THREE:
After everything has updates and your drivers are installed, (Drivers being most important here) It is time to flash your captivate to androind 2.2. There is a very simple program called ODIN that will do this all for you. to prepare for this you will need this version of ODIN Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites! download from and of these sources. You will also need to put your phone in debugging mode and change the USB setting to ask on connection. Download ODIN, and open it. You should see some blank boxes on the screen and two buttons at the bottom that say Start and Master Clear. This next series is important so do exactly as the directions say.
1) Plug the USB cable into the computer WITHOUT the phone plugged into it.
2) Make sure you have opened ODIN
3) Hold down BOTH the up and down volume buttons at the some time (Do not push the power button).
4) Count to 5 slowly and plug your USB cable into the phone while holding the buttons down still.
5) Download mode will pop up on your phone, it will have a green android guy on there and say very clearly that it is in download mode. YOU HAVE TO BE IN THIS MODE FOR IT TO WORK.
6) After that, in ODIN, one of the blank boxes should have something in it along the lines of COMM 4 or 3 or just anything in one of those blank boxes. Hit start.
**This process should only take about 5 minutes to do, if you are sitting there for half an hour something is wrong, go back and redo these steps.**
7) Let the phone do its thing. It will reboot and once it does, you are good to go and upgraded to 2.2
STEP FOUR:
Now it is time to root your 2.2 device, which is the easiest part of this. There very simple program to DL that will root your phone and enable side loading. Very easy to use.
1) Make sure your phone is set to ask on connection under the USB settings and debugging is on.
2) Download the software..[APP]SuperOneClick v1.5.1 (Root, Unroot, Enable Non-Market App, Get UNLOCK code) - xda-developers scroll all the way to the bottom of the post and download the latest version.
It should be Superoneclickv1.5.1-Shortfuse.zip*you may have to register for XDA but its free and has really good forums.
3) After the download is complete, run the .exe and follow the instructions.
Off the top of my head there should be a tab at the top of the program that says "Universal" and "Captivate" obviously make sure you are on the captivate tab. If you have to click "get unlock code" first then do so. unless you are experienced, just do the standard root and not the shell root. After this you will have Android Froyo 2.2 on your captivate and also have it rooted.
I just bought my captivate a few days ago and so far I love it. However it has started acting up more and more over the last couple days. I have my settings to "vibrate" whenever I click buttons. Sometimes after I click something the phone vibrates over and over again and I have noticed that the "home" button flashes when doing so. Eventually it stops but whatever application I am in crashes. Anyone know a fix for this problem or should I go exchange it for a new one?

View 16 Replies View RelatedI just recently switched from a Window Mobile phone to the Captivate and I am loving it thus far. Aside from the standard gripes about gps i have nothing to complain.
I am however having trouble comprehending how google syncs my contacts. I have my contacts set up exactly how i want them on my google account online i.e. co workers freinds family grouping. I would like my phone to display the contacts in the same fashion, but it seems the google sync is only one way from my phone to my account and not the other way around.
How can i get my contacts to sync from my google account so that they show up as i have them set up online without having to do every individual one on the phone.
When I plug in my phone through USB it wont show up on my computer. Whats going on?

I have tried so many things like: "mount and unmount" the SD card and the internal memory, also i have tried the USB debugging, i hava also tried the kies option on the phone, and nothing.. i have all the Samsung USB Drivers (version V.1.3.450.0) i have downloaded the kies program and the kies mini and they haven't work... what am i missing??? can anyone help me? View 2 Replies View RelatedI was running the JI6 2.2 with cognition beta5.5 and was attempting to update however I needed to swap kernels since the current kernel didn't verify signatures. I was using vmware on a mac and i started it but then continued to use the mac side however the computer disconnected the phone from the windows side and now it is stuck showing an image of a phone next to a computer with a triangle with a ! in it between the two. Pressing all hardware buttons does nothing but black the screen and go back to the same screen. I've taken out the battery, sim, unplugged the cord, everything. Can't get back into download mode to redo the kernal swap. It's definitely connected to a valid, and working, usb port and i am now on windows itself instead of vmware. What do I do?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to use RSD Lite to SBF to 2.2 OTA but it keeps on giving me the dreaded Failed flashing process. Failed flashing process. (0x7100); phone connected. I am running Windows 7 x64 and have the latest Moto drivers installed (4.7.1) and am running RSD Lite 4.8. I put my phone in bootloader mode and connected my USB. It is showing iup in port 1, but I am also getting a lot of N/A values. Is this normal?

I choose the SBF file and click start and it immediately gives me that error message. Very frustrating.
After noticing my battery was draining quickly, and then after reading this thread, I installed Android System Info to see what was draining my battery so fast. I notice that whenever I would turn on WiFi, the phone will never go to sleep , regardless of what I set the WiFi sleep policy to. After turning off WiFi, the battery still drains heavily.
The WiFi will shut off after 15mins (if you set it to "When screen turns off" or "never when plugged in"). However it seems to keep the CPU on causing it to drain down the battery.
It would seem that whenever WiFi is enabled, the Android system process creates a partial wakelock that does not go away even if you turn off WiFi. The only way to resolve this is by powering off or rebooting the phone.
You can verify this in Android System Info by going into Battery-History-Other Usage-Partial Wake usage to see how much time the "Android System" process holding a partial wake.
I even did a factory reset on the device; and it is still happening so it doesn't appear to be any app that caused the issue. As I said, it works fine as long as I don't enable WiFi.
I already know of two users having this issue, but I'm wondering if folks having battery problems are going through this as well. Is anyone else having similar issues after using WiFi? I'm hoping someone will be able to identify what exactly is putting the wakelock on and we'll be able to find a fix for it. Other than not using WiFi at all or rebooting the phone after using Wifi.
So im looking at my messages and i get a long one. After like 100 characters or something it cuts it off and replaces it with ... And then i have to click on it to see the rest. Is there any way to take this off in the settings?
And my second question, my phone doesnt connect to my computer right. I plugged it in, it said it didnt have the right software or something, so i went and downloaded the the Vista 64 bit thing thats stickied on here. I plug it in, and the "you have the wrong software" thing was gone, but nothing else happpened. The screen says its connected and it vibrates and i hear the noise thru the computer, so what am i doing wrong. I read somewhere that you pull down the little bar at the top and hit dock or something like that. I cant do that. If i can pull it down theres no buttons to hit. Can someone walk me thru this process? FIXED
I have an update on my Fascinate! I bet it's Froyo! I will take screen shots in process.
