On Saturday, all of a sudden the clock is off by 5 hours but showing the correct location. I restarted my phone and the correct time would show up, but as soon as the phone sleeps and I wake it up, the clock is off by 5 hours again!!! I checked the settings for the clock and it is set to the network time and gps for current location. I had to download a clock widget off the market because I could not figure it out. Anyone?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen installing a app (after confirm its permissions) - the persmissions like "contact", "calls", etc (all kind of permissions) - are disabled to the dev once I delete the app or he always have access to my info (at permissions) OR at the time I've download the app he have access to the permissions until I delete it and all the permissions are disable?
Usually this information/permissions are availabe to the dev automatically once I install the app or he need manualy to get into this informations? If I force stop the app, will it still have access to my data (permissions) or only if its running?
Stopping certain apps from using certain permissions. Eg. GPS coming on sporadically with apps that don't need it.

Does this present problems for security?
A friend has ordered her first ever smartphone (Moto G) and I am tasked with showing her the ropes on using it. Although she really isn't technically-inclined, she does listen to what she is told and I really want to instill good, safe habits in her from the outset.
One of the lessons she needs teaching is regarding malicious apps, and checking permissions before installing anything. You know, stuff like games which want access to make phone calls, send sms, etc
To be clear, what I'm looking for is apps that request excessive permissions, so I can show her what she should be looking out for and avoiding when she's installing apps
I didnt have a smartphone for a while and i just got a shining new nexus 4.
I want to installs all the apps out there but i realise many of them require permissions that (i think) are not actually needed by the app to do whatever it needs to do..
For example i want to install power toggles it asks to use my camera... cant the flashlight be turned on without allowing the camera to be used?
Anyways, i realise that apps that sometimes do the exact same things require different permissions, hence... ?
So main question is: is the permission to use the camera really required by an app that turns on the led?
Some backround on this post. I own 2 android devices, a Samsung Galaxy i9003 and since yesterday, a Nexus 7.
I have ditched my Galaxy as a phone and gone to Blackberry due to battery issues, and apps on my Samsung draining the battery from full to empty in the space of a few hours, so I am now very careful about what I install. Since removing almost all the apps (and the SIM card) from the galaxy, I now have a battery live measured in days (including watching video) rather than hours just sitting doing nothing...
I understand the use of apps auto-starting themselves to provide notifications, such as Facebook, Twitter & Accuweather, but even though I do use these apps for what they are, I do not need them running all the time to provide a notification: The added "work" in starting the app to check updates is worth the extra battery life I get, as if I leave things alone to be automatically managed, my battery life is divided by 10... and having to flip the phone in and out of flight mode is a pain... (especially when you forget to activate it in the afternoon after charging and at 3 AM in the morning you have no battery left to call a taxi...)
So, what I would like to understand is this: Where does android store the information on autostarting applications? Even if I use a task killer, some apps will restart later on. Android must have some sort of task scheduler to restart registered apps after a certain amount of time has passed or on certain events.
how Android manages this list - and more importantly, how to change it, and also if there is any way to override the registered permissions of an app once it has been installed?
Before rooting my device I had read there's the possibility of adjusting the permissions or even feeding false data to apps.
Today I found such an app to allow me to do so.
Both xposed apk and xprivacy ! I downloaded both which is needed. Anyway before configuring to operate there was a warning to have backup of whole system and know how to recover. Further warning said there was possibility of soft brick and bootloop. I immediately deleted them both. So did I do the right thing?
The permissions say that you must agree to allow them to delete files from your storage including your SD card; must agree to allow them to extract any information from your phone, etc. In other words they can do any thing they want with your phone and the data in it.
Is there any way to not grant these permissions and still get updates?
I have a desire from The Carphone warehouse. unbranded. but it has preloaded apps on it. stock, facebook and some other crap. is there anyway at all of uninstalling them plz. I'm pretty anal about having things running in the backgroud and fed up of FC them.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just purchased an Incredible. I really love it a lot, but I have a few questions if someone could clear them up for me. There are a bunch of pre-loaded apps on my phone (Facebook, twitter, stocks, my verizon) and they are always running in the background according to my task killer app. I want to get rid of them, and I have read that you cannot unless you "root" your phone. What exactly does rooting do? I know that it can permanently mess up your phone, so, is it worth it? Do you think that htc will update android to enable you to delete these pre-loaded apps?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have been using nova launcher for some days now, and love it. But, for some odd reason not all my apps are showing up. I just tried finding Google calender and is not in the app section. I go to Google playstor, find it there and it's showing as installed and I can open it, but I can't find the darn thing on my tablet. I have also had this with a couple of other apps.
ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T
But just recently i noticed my phone acting weird. Seems when i open google play store and do a search, Most recently i did "Weather Widgets"
It will return with like 6000 app results. Normally when you click the apps bar it takes you to the app results, When you scroll down and you reach the end of the list it will auto load the next group of apps.
Well now when that happens it no longer loads anymore results and it stays stuck on the first 10~15.BUT this is the weird part.. IT ONLY DOES IT FOR APPS and GAMES.Music and Books the list loads as usual.
So far i have wiped the cache / data and just tried uninstalling the recent update and took it back to version 3.7.15 but google play auto updates itself back to 3.8
How to stop google play from auto updating? soon as i wipe it back to 3.7 it auto updates back to 3.8
Woke up with update message, ran update. Phone completely wiped out of ALL data. Was very upset Does anyone know how to find a list of all previously loaded market place apps? This is a total pain in the butt.
View 19 Replies View RelatedI have this Motorola Flipside and I installed GOLauncher on it. With it I am using the GO Task Manager, and some other widgets, etc. as well. I have noticed that I will close out stuff I am not using any more, using the GO TM widget, and I will turn off the display/put phone to sleep. Then I'll get a text or something and tend to that, hit the home screen and will see the TM and there are like 10 apps open. I'll close them out again and put the phone back to sleep. A few mins later an e-mail or text comes in and I'll tend to it, home screen, again, a bunch of random apps show up in the TM.
Apps like Facebook Camera, ESPN Score Center, GPS, News, Settings, a widget that I don't even use and others randomly populate in the TM. I haven't even opened them or used them, but they are there. The things that were used are in there, and the items I have locked are there, but that's expected. I just don't understand why things are showing up there that haven't been opened. And randomly? Sometimes I will even close them out, hit refresh on the widget and it will just be what is supposed to be there, hit refresh again, bam - more random things show up. Close those, hit refresh a few times, those/others show up again.
What do I need to change? Or is this just something to do with the phone/launcher, perhaps?
I'm using a Sony Ericsson xperia neo v I recently rooted it but after rooting when I opened play store all apps are showing your device is incompatible.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought a chinese tablet, is this one:[URL]
The problem is that some apps are not showing in the app drawer, like for example contacts, os google talk. They are installed, becaused they show in the list from Settings->apps. I can't access those apps and other by any way!! I tried different launchers, but it's the same.
As of recently, I've noticed that the play store no longer has tablet spptlight, or even show which apps are made of tablet.
I used to be able go see "Designed for phones", but now nothing at all.
Does this mean Google doesnt care anymore?
yesterday I reflashed a tablet with a clean install of cm7, factory reset clear cache etc. Latest Gapps.
I set up the main account with a gmail account I made for my kids because the device is mainly used by them. I added my own google account so it can be used with the play store to redownload all the apps I have purchased for them. I have set the play store to use my google account.
But all the apps I have previously paid for have their price listed beside them in the store, rather than saying "purchased". If I try to buy them again it gives me message saying there was an error with the transaction.I have set up a device with 2 accounts like this before and it worked ok.
We are a team of Android developers and we are facing a serious problem for quite some time. Our app (a game client) is designed in such a way, that once it's installed it can be used to download games from a game server. In order for the downloaded games to work, they have to be installed and launched by the client. The problem is that the client has no write/update rights for the / data/dalvik-cache directory, unless we specifically execute the chmod 777 command for that directory. Setting the android.permission.INSTALL_PACKAGES permission in the client's manifest file also doesn't work. After reading countless forums where other people have complained about the same problem, we would like to know when this issue is going to be resolved. Apparently the code for this feature already exists (the DexFile class of the so called "cupcake" release) but it hasn't been released yet. What's more frustrating is that the Android team points out that all Android apps are equal, that system apps are equal in rights to custom apps. Obviously this is not the case. If the client game app is installed in the /system/app the problem described above is solved. System apps have the right to dynamically install other apps. Regular apps (installed in the /data/data folder) do not.Is this issue going to be resolved anytime soon? Will the "cupcake" DexFile class going to be present in the next release? This is a rather urgent problem since we are waiting for this new functionality in order to continue development.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm working on an app which contains some scripting support. The scripts executed by this app might require all sorts of permissions in the future, but it's difficult to predict which ones.
Is there a way to request additional permissions at runtime (like iPhone apps sometimes do) instead of specifying them all in advance in AndroidManifest.xml?
Which apps that are considered bloatware are required to have system app permissions? I removed a few and I want to set their permissions correctly but I dont want to screw up and possibly brick.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to update my app and provide a sharedUserId as part of my manifest, so that the several apps I have can all nicely look at each other's private files if necessary. Unfortunately, I've discovered that adding a sharedUserId where it did not exist before will change the userId and make me unable to modify current existing files. Is there a graceful way to handle updating your sharedUserId now that I need its functionality? Or am I pretty much resigned to requiring people to uninstall and reinstall my app to be able to do this?
