General :: Apps With No Permissions Shown?
Mar 16, 2012Just want to ask how to view the permissions of apps installed but with no permissions shown(even "This app does not require permission.)
Does this present problems for security?

When installing a app (after confirm its permissions) - the persmissions like "contact", "calls", etc (all kind of permissions) - are disabled to the dev once I delete the app or he always have access to my info (at permissions) OR at the time I've download the app he have access to the permissions until I delete it and all the permissions are disable?
Usually this information/permissions are availabe to the dev automatically once I install the app or he need manualy to get into this informations? If I force stop the app, will it still have access to my data (permissions) or only if its running?
Stopping certain apps from using certain permissions. Eg. GPS coming on sporadically with apps that don't need it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have CM10.1 20130210 on my phone. (Had 20130208 when I noticed the problem, But I dont think thats the cause). I normally check for CM updates & Play Store every night. Yesterday I wanted to check the Play Store but when I opened it it took me straight to the Categories page (It normally takes me to some "General Featured" page).
When I go into any of the categories it takes me to another categories menu (Example: Games>Racing/Puzzle/Action/Etc.) then if I enter any of those it just takes me to a grey screen, As if there were no apps.
I tried going into My Apps & Its blank. If I go into the All tab though they all show, Clicking on one of those apps does take me to its page & If I try to download a previously uninstalled app it does download and work properly.
Something very weird: The same thing happens in the Webstore, No app shows when going into Editor's Choice & When manually going into the categories its just blank. Going into app pages via my own apps do work.
I've tried clearing the data of the Play Store (Settings>Apps>All>Google Play Store>Clear Data)
I've tried reflashing my phone (Thats why I went from 20130208 to 20130210)
I've tried Force Stopping, Clearing data & Rebooting
I've tried unsyncing & Resyncing my Google Account
I've tried uninstalling & Reinstalling Gapps (goo.im/gapps)
I've tried unsyncing account, Force stopping & Wiping Google Play Services, Store & Services Framework. Then uninstalling them & Reinstalling. Resyncing Google account & Going back in. Still nothing. (At this point Im pissed)
I've tried changing the DPI from 320 (Default) to 220, 200, 300, Etc. Nothing...
A friend has ordered her first ever smartphone (Moto G) and I am tasked with showing her the ropes on using it. Although she really isn't technically-inclined, she does listen to what she is told and I really want to instill good, safe habits in her from the outset.
One of the lessons she needs teaching is regarding malicious apps, and checking permissions before installing anything. You know, stuff like games which want access to make phone calls, send sms, etc
To be clear, what I'm looking for is apps that request excessive permissions, so I can show her what she should be looking out for and avoiding when she's installing apps
App which shows (concisely) the permissions on all the apps loaded on phone? I have noticed some free apps request phone book info, contact info, etc. for no good reason.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI didnt have a smartphone for a while and i just got a shining new nexus 4.
I want to installs all the apps out there but i realise many of them require permissions that (i think) are not actually needed by the app to do whatever it needs to do..
For example i want to install power toggles it asks to use my camera... cant the flashlight be turned on without allowing the camera to be used?
Anyways, i realise that apps that sometimes do the exact same things require different permissions, hence... ?
So main question is: is the permission to use the camera really required by an app that turns on the led?
Some backround on this post. I own 2 android devices, a Samsung Galaxy i9003 and since yesterday, a Nexus 7.
I have ditched my Galaxy as a phone and gone to Blackberry due to battery issues, and apps on my Samsung draining the battery from full to empty in the space of a few hours, so I am now very careful about what I install. Since removing almost all the apps (and the SIM card) from the galaxy, I now have a battery live measured in days (including watching video) rather than hours just sitting doing nothing...
I understand the use of apps auto-starting themselves to provide notifications, such as Facebook, Twitter & Accuweather, but even though I do use these apps for what they are, I do not need them running all the time to provide a notification: The added "work" in starting the app to check updates is worth the extra battery life I get, as if I leave things alone to be automatically managed, my battery life is divided by 10... and having to flip the phone in and out of flight mode is a pain... (especially when you forget to activate it in the afternoon after charging and at 3 AM in the morning you have no battery left to call a taxi...)
So, what I would like to understand is this: Where does android store the information on autostarting applications? Even if I use a task killer, some apps will restart later on. Android must have some sort of task scheduler to restart registered apps after a certain amount of time has passed or on certain events.
how Android manages this list - and more importantly, how to change it, and also if there is any way to override the registered permissions of an app once it has been installed?
Before rooting my device I had read there's the possibility of adjusting the permissions or even feeding false data to apps.
Today I found such an app to allow me to do so.
Both xposed apk and xprivacy ! I downloaded both which is needed. Anyway before configuring to operate there was a warning to have backup of whole system and know how to recover. Further warning said there was possibility of soft brick and bootloop. I immediately deleted them both. So did I do the right thing?
The permissions say that you must agree to allow them to delete files from your storage including your SD card; must agree to allow them to extract any information from your phone, etc. In other words they can do any thing they want with your phone and the data in it.
Is there any way to not grant these permissions and still get updates?
I published several free and paid app in the Market. I recently get several complains from customers about not finding my app in the 2.1 Market. Even if they have bought them before, they can't find it in the market or their download list after updating to 2.1.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWe are a team of Android developers and we are facing a serious problem for quite some time. Our app (a game client) is designed in such a way, that once it's installed it can be used to download games from a game server. In order for the downloaded games to work, they have to be installed and launched by the client. The problem is that the client has no write/update rights for the / data/dalvik-cache directory, unless we specifically execute the chmod 777 command for that directory. Setting the android.permission.INSTALL_PACKAGES permission in the client's manifest file also doesn't work. After reading countless forums where other people have complained about the same problem, we would like to know when this issue is going to be resolved. Apparently the code for this feature already exists (the DexFile class of the so called "cupcake" release) but it hasn't been released yet. What's more frustrating is that the Android team points out that all Android apps are equal, that system apps are equal in rights to custom apps. Obviously this is not the case. If the client game app is installed in the /system/app the problem described above is solved. System apps have the right to dynamically install other apps. Regular apps (installed in the /data/data folder) do not.Is this issue going to be resolved anytime soon? Will the "cupcake" DexFile class going to be present in the next release? This is a rather urgent problem since we are waiting for this new functionality in order to continue development.

Is there a way to request additional permissions at runtime (like iPhone apps sometimes do) instead of specifying them all in advance in AndroidManifest.xml?
Which apps that are considered bloatware are required to have system app permissions? I removed a few and I want to set their permissions correctly but I dont want to screw up and possibly brick.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to update my app and provide a sharedUserId as part of my manifest, so that the several apps I have can all nicely look at each other's private files if necessary. Unfortunately, I've discovered that adding a sharedUserId where it did not exist before will change the userId and make me unable to modify current existing files. Is there a graceful way to handle updating your sharedUserId now that I need its functionality? Or am I pretty much resigned to requiring people to uninstall and reinstall my app to be able to do this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have noticed in an application I wrote, in-spite of me not specifying any permission in the manifest file, the application throws up permissions granted, such as
android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE
android.permission.READ_PHONE_STATE
What is all that about? I was not even aware my application needs to write into external store, and I am pretty sure it doesn't need to. So why are these permission being granted when I never requested for them?
Any way to change the permissions of individual apps ?
I'm running 4.1.2 on the LG Optimus G Pro.
I can see the permissions by app, but I can't find a way to change them if I don't one of them doing something.
i have installed cm 11 official on my sgs3 and when i plug it in to my laptop with windows 8 it detects it but it doesnt't show the files in it.

Trying to send any file form any file manager
does not show Bluetooth for example or any other relevant app to send with!
I'm trying to do an updater-script that subtitutes some data, but i can't set the permissions to the files I replace, since I don't know how to. I've searched a little, but all threads I found say the same thing:
set_perm(UID, GID, mode, "pathtfile");
I know what UID and GID stand for, but I don't know what to put in the "mode" part. run_program("sbin/chmod",) will do the same task, but I don't know how to use it xD. I know how to use chmod though..
I accidentally (sure!) removed all permissions on a folder in / so now the system can't even read it to display it in root explorer. I've searched pretty hard and tried chmod and a couple other ideas in the terminal but nothing so far has worked.

/sys/devices/platform/htc_battery/fast_charge
Wrote a small widget to do that job for me. And its working fine
My question is .... I haven't added any permissions in the Manifest file, and also the widget is not asking for any Root request when i use it.... Shoudn't the widget give error since no write permission is available in the manifest and shouldnt it ask for Root access since it is trying to write to a system partition?
I have attached the Eclipse project folder of that widget also.
I have tried everything and I can't seem to be able to get Month or Day of Month to align vertically as shown in the picture below.
Is this even possible? I know it is using the Week Bar, but I'm not so sure about the others. I can't figure out where the option is to make anything else besides the Week Bar go vertical like someone did in the picture below. Is this picture just a fake or what?
I am trying to sync a rostering app between two devices using dropsync. The .db files that need syncing are in the /data/ data/com/databases directory. Using Root explorer I can change the permissions to give full rw permission to others. The two .db files will then upload to the dropsync server. The problem is that whenever the app is opened and anything modified, the permissions change back to default and thus dropsync can't access the modified .db... Is there anyway to change this or am I wasting my time? what is the 'sticky' box option in RE?
