General :: Fake USB Charging / Connection
May 14, 2013Is there an app/mod (or a tasker profile) out there which can be used to simulate a USB connection (for charging) without physical connection with a USB cable? I am on 4.1.2.

HTC EVO 4G :: AUX Connection While Charging - In Car?
Jun 17, 2010Last night on the way hope I plugged in the micro USB cable from my 500ma car charger while listening to Pandora through the aux cable. I get a bad buzz sound like the phone has some kind of grounding/short/wiring issue. It happens no matter what I'm trying to do through the headphone jack. Even if nothing is playing. There is this really loud buzz.
Is anyone else in here not able to use the aux cable while being plugged in? I'm wondering if it's my Pioneer head unit or the USB charger. I don't get this issue when using aux with my computer speakers at home or headphones.
General :: Simdo D98T Fake RAM Size?
Sep 7, 2013I purchased a Simdo D98T from Pandawill. While the phone isnt pretty and the touchscreen is not well calibrated, I was impressed with the antenna quality: best wifi and GPS I have seen in any phone.
The phone reports 1G of RAM, but the lowest I have seen free RAM has been around 639MB. Programs are closed as soon as you put them in foreground and Firefox even closed on me while working, while still reporting around 640MB of free RAM.
Can the manufacturer reportan incorrect amount of RAM and tweak the kernel to use only part of it?

Nov 8, 2011How do you know that an APK signature is not a fake?
What is to stop somebody unpacking an APK, inserting malicious code, repacking the APK, and signing it with a new key that simply copies all of the fields from the original publishers key (company name, locations, etc...)? Obviously it is not the same key, but all of the data the end user would see appears to be the same.
If the original key had to be signed by a trusted authority (as is the case with trusted ClickOnce applications for instance), you could have some certainty that this key was issued to the original company. Similarly, if publishers made their public keys available from a trusted outlet (e.g. google.com/android/keys) you could check that they were correct from the fingerprint.
It would appear that signing only gives you the illusion of security, which is actually worse than no security at all.
Fake Permissions And Unauthorized Operations?
Apr 11, 2014I do a lot of Android app testing. I use my regular phone, where I have my contacts and my regular gmail account. I never used a credit card on this account. I mostly use APK files to install the apps. I have 2 questions:
1. can an app display some permissions when installing, but have others hidden permissions ?
Example: instal APK file > says permissions "Network access" and that's it.
Can this app also read my data or make phone calls, even though those permissions were not displayed ?
What is I use an app to display ALL permissions ? Can it really display all or is there an way to still have hidden permissions ? I use Android 2.3.7 root and 4.1 no root.
2. Can an app make unauthorized hidden operations, like place phone calls or send texts or steal my gmail password ?
Like I said, I never used a credit card, so at least that's not a problem. But I have my SIM card - can an app place a value added call or SMS (I don't know the exact English term - expensive call), without me knowing about it ?
Or compromise my Gmail account ? I have an alternate email for recovery.
Android :: Spoof Or Fake Location On Phone
Jul 29, 2010I've been trying to get this to work for a few days without success. Basically, I'm writing a small test app to make the phone report it's position as somewhere else using addTestProvider and setTestProviderLocation etc. Basically it looks fine and appears to report its location as having changed, however Google Maps etc. seems to still be querying the real GPS provider. Does anyone have any ideas how to get around this?
This isn't an app that will actually be used for anything, it's just really to satisfy my own curiosity and gain an understanding.

Jan 16, 2014Yesterday I've upgraded my Alcatel OT-997, ICS 4.0.4. with Kuano's TWRP and now it's:
Alcatel OT-997D, JB 4.1.1. - (details in this thread, 5th post) [URL] D means I can now use two SIM cards, which is cool.
The problem is the damn thing doesn't charge when it's turned on. It shows the lightning bolt over the battery icon, but in settings shows that charger is not connected. However, when it's turned off it charges, normally. I tried different settings in USB menu: Mass storage, MTP, Camera mode and Charge. Tried with and without Debugging mode. All of those work when connected to a computer in the sense that I can use internal storage, access both SD cards, and so on. But it doesn't charge.
I have tried 3 different cables, 3 wall outlets, and 2 PCs so it's not that. I suppose it's not a hardware problem otherwise it wouldn't charge properly when it's turned off.
So now I use schedule to turn it off before I go to sleep, and to turn on before I wake up, so it would charge while I'm sleeping.

Now lets say on of this threads is downloading a large file, but then the user of my application is switching to another activity/screen. Therefor the file is needless and I'd like to abort this download connection.
In ThreadSafeClientConnManager I found this method: public ClientConnectionRequest requestConnection (HttpRoute route, Object state) Returns a new ClientConnectionRequest, from which a ManagedClientConnection can be obtained or the request can be aborted.
So far I've been using:

Now from what I understand, I've to use:
httpclient.getConnectionManager().requestConnection(HttpRoute route, Object state);
And that's the point where I'm stuck. I assume that for the route I can just use new HttpRoute(new HttpHost("10.0.0.1")) or whatever my server is, but what to put in for Object state?
And second, as soon as I've the ClientConnectionManager I can call getConnection(long timeout, TimeUnit tunit). But then from there, how I do I execute my HttpGet httpRequest = new HttpGet(URL_TO_FILE); as I did before with HttpResponse response = (HttpResponse) httpclient.execute(httpRequest);?
I've been gone through the documentation and tried out quite a few different things, but I wasn't able to obtain a working solution. Therefor any suggestions and/or code examples are more than welcome.

May 25, 2012I have had the issue of plugging the phone it at around 9pm when going to bed and it charging to 100% the next morning at around 7:30-8am but as soon as i unplug the charger it drops from 100% to 99 to 97%? Im using the battery circle app to monitor my battery %. I have "calibrated" the battery by using the phone until it shuts it self off then charging it to 100% while its off then unplug it and turn it on and then plugging it back in.
Usually i will get between 15-19+ hours on normal use if i unplug it and plug it back up when it drops suddenly to 9-% in the mornings but if i dont ill get somewhere around 13 hours of life. is there something wrong with the phone, battery or charger?
