HTC EVO 4G :: AUX Connection While Charging - In Car?
Jun 17, 2010
Last night on the way hope I plugged in the micro USB cable from my 500ma car charger while listening to Pandora through the aux cable. I get a bad buzz sound like the phone has some kind of grounding/short/wiring issue. It happens no matter what I'm trying to do through the headphone jack. Even if nothing is playing. There is this really loud buzz.
Is anyone else in here not able to use the aux cable while being plugged in? I'm wondering if it's my Pioneer head unit or the USB charger. I don't get this issue when using aux with my computer speakers at home or headphones.

Is there an app/mod (or a tasker profile) out there which can be used to simulate a USB connection (for charging) without physical connection with a USB cable? I am on 4.1.2.

My HTC Wildfire shows a red LED when charging, which changes to green when fully charged. But as I have red/green colour blindness I cannot tell when it is fully charged. Anyone know of an app that will allow me to change these colours?

If my screen locks while I have a wifi connection, then the connection is lost when I unlock the phone.First, is this perhaps deliberate, to save power? Also, either way, when I unlock the screen and go into wifi settings, I see that the phone is trying to make a wifi connection, but it never succeeds, even though it's my home network and I'm in the same room as the router. It just states 'Obtaining address.

I'm using ThreadSafeClientConnManager to manage a pool of client connections, because my application has several threads, which are simultaneously connecting to a webserver.
Abstract sample code:
CODE:..............
Now lets say on of this threads is downloading a large file, but then the user of my application is switching to another activity/screen. Therefor the file is needless and I'd like to abort this download connection.
In ThreadSafeClientConnManager I found this method: public ClientConnectionRequest requestConnection (HttpRoute route, Object state) Returns a new ClientConnectionRequest, from which a ManagedClientConnection can be obtained or the request can be aborted.
So far I've been using:
CODE:.........
Now from what I understand, I've to use:
httpclient.getConnectionManager().requestConnection(HttpRoute route, Object state);
And that's the point where I'm stuck. I assume that for the route I can just use new HttpRoute(new HttpHost("10.0.0.1")) or whatever my server is, but what to put in for Object state?
And second, as soon as I've the ClientConnectionManager I can call getConnection(long timeout, TimeUnit tunit). But then from there, how I do I execute my HttpGet httpRequest = new HttpGet(URL_TO_FILE); as I did before with HttpResponse response = (HttpResponse) httpclient.execute(httpRequest);?
I've been gone through the documentation and tried out quite a few different things, but I wasn't able to obtain a working solution. Therefor any suggestions and/or code examples are more than welcome.

Long time reader, first time poster here. How does one know if the Epic is using the wifi connection as opposed to using the 3G connection? When wifi is connected both that and the 3G connection shows at the top. So which one is in control per se? And how can it be verified?

I'm coding a very basic FTP client on top of my application and I have 2 activities. The first one is the file explorer and the second one is the image viewer. Once I click on the image filename on the explorer, I want to pass the connection to the other activity to handle extra stuff. Basically, I want to keep the same org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTPClient object (which handles the connection) alive in-between the 2 activities. I know I can't pass an object inside an intent so I don't know what my best bets are.

What's the technical term for being able to have voice connection and data connection simultaneously? Like AT&T was promoting heavily for a while.Apparently, the new T-Mobile Vibrant has this capability. A friend got one and was accessing the web while talking to me, double jealous now.I have benn lusting after the Verizon version, Fascinate, and wondering if there is any chance it will as well.

I updated to the official Froyo OTA from HTC (.6) and didn't have this problem before the update.
When I plug my EVO into an AC adapter (Belkin, not stock adapter) and then unplug it, notification bar says "Preparing SD Card" which normally only happens after hooking my EVO up to my PC and selecting "Disk Drive" and then unplugging.
As a result, when my EVO is plugged into an AC or USB (and select Charge Only), I can't look at photos, I can't use ASTRO to browse the SD contents and my phone doesn't even ring since my ringtone is an mp3 that's stored on the SD card.
Is this a problem anyone else is seeing? Should I follow the "How to fix Froyo" sticky? I didn't see this as an issue addressed, so I'd prefer not to go through it as I believe I don't have any other significant issues besides this one.
I'm using a Belkin AC Adapter and an A-DATA 16GB MicroSD card, though I have the same problem when plugging via USB into my computer and selecting "Charge Only" and I still can't access the MicroSD card.

Here is a little trick I discovered recently. If you have a later model BMW with the USB port that you would either plug in the iPod connector or a USB stick, if you plug your Incredible in you will be able to charge that phone through the port, negating the need for a separate cigarette lighter charger. This may work on other cars with a USB port, but your mileage may vary.Additionally, you could set up your music folder and playlists directory on the Incredible's internal storage to use it for music playback. Unfortunately on my 2008 X5 with the "single button" iDrive, it only reads the internal storage memory, and not the SD card.

make sure to right mouse click and eject before just unplugging the usb cord. i corrupted my micro sd by doing this over and over. i had to put the sd into a digi cam and format it before win7, win xp, or the evo could see it. luckily i had my sd backed-up to my laptop hard drive.

so i guess if u use your phone while charging, it actually uses the battery (which makes sense of course)but after unplugging, goes down to like 89% because u were using while charging i put it back on the charger without using to 100% and its been there for a while now.

I am getting 9-10 hours off a nightly charge on my Evo.This isn't lasting me the whole day and I usually run out of juice on the drive home from work.I've tried all the battery tricks to get longer time but no luck. I think the reason for the battery drain is because at work, I only receive 1-2 bars on the 3G network. When I step outside, I go to 4-5 bars.I am blaming the battery drain more on my location rather than the phone, which is OK.Anyways, I have the luxury of sitting in front of a laptop all day. This means I can constantly charge my Evo all day through the USB port. Would this have any bad effect on the battery? This means taking the phone on and off the charge throughout the day. If I leave my desk for 10-15 minutes, I'm unplugging the Evo and taking it with me. This could happen 5-10 times a day.Or is it better just to do a charge 1-2 hours before I leave work to make sure it will last the remainder of the evening?

Before I continue: I don't use any task killers. And I've read every battery trick thread on here and on XDA, so I've done it all. The CDMA fix. Rooting and using OCWidget. Charging it to 100%, turning it off, and then cycling the charge with the phone in the off state. And of course, disabling every data hungry app plus setting screen brightness to 50%. This is my 3rd Android phone, so it's definitely not my first rodeo.
So last night I was using my Evo as it was on the charger. I was browsing the web, and checking out some new apps in the market, so the screen was on for quite a while. I took my Evo off the charger, did some heavy texting, some browsing, Facebook, Twitter, etc, etc, and about 5 hours later I was at 80%. I then put it on the charger, and went to bed.
Fast forward to this morning: Took it off the charger, sent a few texts, and I'm down to 95% within minutes. Of course this frustrated me, since last night I went an hour before it even dropped to 99%. It'll be getting some heavy use today, so the last thing I want to do is leave the house with my battery in the 80% range. I put it back on the charger, and resumed normal usage. Some texting, Facebook, Movies app, Netflix app. Eventually the charging light goes green again. Took it off the charger an hour ago, did some texting, stayed connected to WiFi,and I'm still at 100%. Whereas earlier this morning it dropped 5% in minutes under the same use.
Scratched my head for a second, and remembered that my phone was on and in use while charging last time, before I took it off and got great battery life.
So now, I've set it so my Evo's screen stays on while charging. I also use the Power Control widget to increase the screen brightness to 100% while charging. And then once it's off the charger, just drop it to 50%.
To keep the phone awake while charging:
Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Development -> And then tap the check box next to 'Stay awake'.
Not saying this is guaranteed to work, and I have no rational explanation as to how this works, but it's definitely helping me. I'm going to do some testing and report back on a few things.

When I try to charge my Evo off of my usb charging adapter from my zune, it either A) takes ~3x as long to charge, or B) won't charge at all. Does the USB wall adapter that comes with the phone have something special in it? I'm drawing a blank... I mean even hooking it into the USB of my computer as charge only takes forever too.

Charges fine with wall charger. Just plugged it into computer and 'no charging'. It did go thru 'usb connect', did NOT load driver, and is 'not charging'?USB symbol at top of screen(Launcher Pro), screen stays on but no moving charger symbol.Am I actually charging?Does the battery icon just not move with USB connect with Launcher Pro?Will find out one way or the other EDIT: OK. I changed the 'USB connection' setting from "PC Mode" to "Charge Only" and the battery symbol now shows charging. That is weird.
