View 2 RepliesBased on some quick tests, I've noticed the following: if you kill the Google Messaging Service, Chrome to Phone (a.k.a. Send to Phone) will stop working.
This seems rather obvious, but I had been in the habit of killing the Google Talk Service (GTalk) prior to Froyo. After Froyo, it looks like the service was renamed/replaced with Google Messaging Service.
I suspect that killing the Google Messaging Service could affect other Google services too.
Short of freezing and unfreezing maps, can it be stopped? I have autostarts and Gemini app manager both attempting to keep maps from running, and it has reduced it drastically. But it still starts.
How to remove these associations? I only want maps to run if I ask it to, never any other time.

View 3 Replies View RelatedRecently trying to send a text to my wife I got this error back as a text from myself: "Message Delivered to XXXXXXXXXX as plain text. Destination does not support enhanced messaging service."
I've never received this message before. A quick google search told me it was because the message was over 160 characters, but on my old phone it would automatically split the message up into multiple texts. I can't be sure if I've sent a text with 160+ characters n my droid before.
I'll be sending or reading a recieved text or reading through some old ones, and the messgaing service will crash, i'll then open handcent and the same thing will happen. it will come up with the message "the application has stopped unexpectedly.please try again" with options force close or wait, i'll select force close, re-open it and it comes up again.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've had an ongoing struggle with my X's battery life, from day 1 with 2 different standard batteries to try until now with the extended battery.
I've tried it all and thensome and nothing has majorly improved my battery life. I won't go into number of hours I get or usage details or anything, but I have a question I cannot seem to find any solution to.
I noticed after I updated to leaked 2.2 Froyo that very often the 3g up and download arrows are both lit up and basically never turn off. After a few days of trying to figure out what it was (and using Juice Defender in the meantime to shut data off except for 15 min intervals), I think I've figured out what is causing the 3g data to often constantly be transmitting.
I went into the Battery History screen, left it set to "Since last unplugged" and went to "Network usage". In here, the bar for "UID 10012" is very high, almost all blue. Every time I exit the menu and go back into to re-check those data numbers, they are always increased after only seconds while the 3g data symbol is active.
Inside of the details for that are several built-in system app names. I tried stopping a few of these through the Applications menu of the phone where you can stop services/apps.
I finally have force stopped one (has worked several times now) that has stopped the 3g data instantly every time.
This one is "Social Messaging Service".
Every time I click the "Force stop" button within that app's info page in the Application settings of the phone, the 3g data arrows stop lighting up instantly.
Is this app related only to the Social Networking built-in app (which I don't use/need)? Is it tied to other things? Is there a downside to me stopping this?
I can't seem to keep it stopped and it seems to cause this 3g data issue every day at some time (multiple times usually - seems to happen again a few hours after I've stopped it). I think it is attributing to my sometimes bad battery life.
How can I stop this ongoing Social Messaging "bug" battery drain?
I want to get rid of from google play services and google's other cartel softwares. I dont want to share my location information via google, but ı want to share my location information via forsqaure. But google lay down "if you want to use forsquare, you must run google play services and you must share your information to us". And I dont want to pay money for google's ads; any android program has google's ads and it consumt cpu, ram and gsm internet connection. As so, for any android software before run, firstly try to show ads, after software running.. How can I get rid of from google cartel? Google Play service installation error
When I installed google play services in bluestack ...I got this error : incompatible with other applications with the same shared user ID..
I 've bought HuaWei U8836D Ascend G500 pro Shine. Now i can root it.
When i try install google play but fail. It could not start. how can i install it ok to myphone??
While installiing "google play services" I got some error 919 "Incompatible with other applications(s) using the same shared user ID", for which i googled for solutions which said to uninstall Google service framework(GSF) then, install play services and then again install GSF.
when i tried to uninstall the GSF via "titanium backup" i was unable to do so. Hence i thought of converting it to an user app ,then take a backup of apk file and then uninstall it. While doing so, it was taking very much time, so i rebooted my phone, after which i did not found GSF in my apps list.
Now i'm not able to have an access to play store.
My GSF version was 4.0.1- 212031
I like to know whether Instant Messaging and Presence Service (IMPS) support available in Android release. If yes, please can I know in/from which release it's available?
View 3 Replies View Relatedeasy way to use GCM (push message on Android for Gmail, Hangouts, etc.) behind a firewall?
The problem is not that companies want to block GCM, they are just unaware of the fact that their firewall is blocking it by default. GCM uses ports 5228, 5229 & 5230 which are almost always blocked on corporate networks. This means push messages don't come through. It also seriously screws with Hangouts (when I open the app random messages come though while others don't; this results in only being able to see parts of conversations).
Response from Google is to request the ports to be opened. This is not an option as I work as a consultant and move between clients. I can't get them all to open up the ports.
Google is seriously hampering the use of Android and Google services for professional use by using non-standard ports. I don't understand why they are not openly pushing for the ports to be opened by default or use standard ports (could also just be as a fallback if the preferred ports are blocked).I can't use Hangouts professionally now (which I would prefer over Skype).
Im looking to get a Droid X or 2 but I have recently been hitting over 500 texts per month.
I just read about the new Google Voice and how it is able to send and receive text messages. I dont seem to understand how it works can someone explain this to me?
As far as I know, when you install GV you signup and then get a #, from there I give that # to everyone to text me (not my cell phone #) and GV just stays on in the back ground all the time waiting for texts?
And, does this use the data connection to do all of this or use the phone miniutes?
when i receive a text message i only see the phone number that it came from, not the name of the person i have in google contacts for that number. does the droid not see google contacts for messaging? i added a new contact for a phone number from the add contact function in messaging. then the name showed up. any way to make messaging see google contacts for name association?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've recently rooted and am looking at getting rid of that irratating 'Choose input method' in the notification bar every time I type something.
I use Swype and the other options are Google Voice Typing (which I can untick) but Samsung Keyboard is greyed out, meaning that every time I type something I get the choice of Swype or Samsung Keyboard.
I've frozen the Samsung keyboard and now I don't get the notification and also Swype starts up quicker. Good so far. The thing is, I'm wondering if when I restart my phone my PIN lock screen uses the Samsung Keyboard, in which case I won't be able to enter my PIN. (I've disabled my PIN for the time being as I'm too scared to find out!)
I've heard you can disable bloatware in ics, I've got a Samsung tab 2 7.0 and I don't see this option anywhere?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an LG Optimus Showtime (android vers 4.0.4). Im wondering if there is a way to disable data use by a single app? I uninstalled Flickr app because it used up so much data. I would like to re install it again but only if there is a way to disable data when Im not using it. The only thing I see is to go into system settings, data usage, and then either go to a specific app and Restrict background data or Turn Off mobile data. The past few weeks I have been turning off mobile data when not using. I have went into some of my apps settings and unchecked notifications, etc., but that doesnt seem to really save data.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just updated my phone to 2.1. Also I have two email accounts. One Gmail and one dslextreme account. It used to be that when I got email from one or both accounts I would get a little envelope in my notification bar. Dragging that down it would show me the email in the Gmail account and the dslextreme account. But now I have a third notification with the google M in it. If I click it it opens a "conversation" window with the email. I can respond to it and it works just fine. But if I click on the Gmail email I get the usual looking email format. Now the interesting thing is if I ignore the google M and go straight to the google email and deal with the email from there the google M conversation disappears. Thank you for bearing with me through that lengthly explanation but here is my question. How do I turn off this google M conversation? I don't want that third notification nor do I want that style of email delivered. I want to go back to the standard type of email delivery. It's coming to my phone alright but I don't want dual notifications. I remember when I was setting up this new OS that a box came up and I checked this google M not understanding what it was but I have looked through all my settings and can't figure out how to shut it off.
View 4 Replies View Related how I wound up with this but after a factory reset I noticed that in my phone contacts there are all these "connections" with a chainlink type icon. I didn't have these things before my factory reset.
I don't sync with Google, I use Companion Link and DejaOffice. DON'T want to sync with Google. I can't find a way to "un-connect" and get rid of these things. If I press on them, I get an option to add a connection but no option to disconnect that I can see.
I'm assuming this is either an Android or another one of freaking Google's attempts to invade a my space, privacy and run my life and I don't like it.
I've been using Go SMS Pro recently mostly since it can display emoji. But i've noticed one really annoying thing is how the keyboard auto hides every time i send a text. Is there any way of preventing this from happening?
I'm running ICS on a galaxy nexus, the keyboard im using is swiftkey X.
Alright, I have a Droid 2 (actually my second one; both have had this problem), although it's not really a model-specific issue.
When I'm walking with the phone in my pocket and listening to headphones, the phone will occasionally think that the headphones have come unplugged when they haven't. This causes it to pause, and I have to take the phone out and unpause it.
Is there any way to disable the 'pause on headphone disconnect' feature? I understand that this is a hardware issue, but there is really no reason for it to pause, as the headphones are still connected.
The phone is rooted and Liberty ROM 3 v2.0 is installed, but the issue occurred when the phone was stock, too.
