HTC Incredible : How To Make All Contacts 'google' Contacts?

Sep 20, 2010

I've been playing with other ROMs lately, and I'm having problems restoring my contacts on non-sense roms. Only a fraction of my contacts are 'google' contacts - a lot are backed up through verizon or are stored on the phone. How can I make all my contacts 'google' contacts, so that when I boot up in a non-sense rom, I can get all my contacts back simply by linking my phone with google?

Android :: SQL Efficiently Check - An Association Exists

Nov 5, 2010

I have a database of notes and lists, with three association tables.
Basically, lists are parents of notes and other lists, and notes can be parents of other notes in a outline like hierarchy.

I am using this query to return all notes within a list as well as the number of subnotes each note has.

CODE:...................

This query works just fine, but it's overkill. I don't need to return count(n2.note_id) as Num_Subnotes because I'm only using that value to check if the note has ANY SUBNOTES AT ALL. Essentially it's a boolean value where 0 is false and > 0 is true.

It seems to me that counting all those records is a waste of time when I could just return 1 after finding the first matching value.

Is there a more efficient way to check if count(n2.note_id)>0 in the above query?

Android : Can I Replicate Functionality Of Selecting Contacts In Messaging App?

Apr 19, 2010

Android's messaging app, located in projects/platform/packages/apps/Mms.git has a class called RecipientsEditor. I would like to be able to create MultiAutoCompleteTextView that will filter contacts the same way, to make contact selection easy in my app. using the mms app is cumbersome since it uses internal apis and has everything split across classes.

Has anyone made an easy way to do this?

General :: Galaxy S II X - Messaging Contacts

Mar 6, 2012

I have a Galaxy S II X (Telus version in Canada) running their stock firmware, based on Android 2.3.5.

I've set it up to not sync my contacts with Gmail, and my contacts lists displays only the people I've added. However, if I create a text message and add recipients, it lists all my contacts in addition to every single person to whom I've ever sent an email from my Gmail account, and it's bloody annoying. I've been through the phone settings and can't find any way to disable this..? If this is a "feature" of the firmware, would I be better off rooting it and installing a different ROM?

Android :: Google Voice - Work With Text Messaging

Nov 7, 2010

Im looking to get a Droid X or 2 but I have recently been hitting over 500 texts per month.

I just read about the new Google Voice and how it is able to send and receive text messages. I dont seem to understand how it works can someone explain this to me?

As far as I know, when you install GV you signup and then get a #, from there I give that # to everyone to text me (not my cell phone #) and GV just stays on in the back ground all the time waiting for texts?

And, does this use the data connection to do all of this or use the phone miniutes?

I cant load any contacts while trying to send a text (i can but it takes FOREVER!!!like over a minute or 2) say im trying to text "tammie" i will type in "t" and it will load everyone and their mothers names that have a "t" anywhere in their name, then take a minute or 2 to FINALLY find "tammie"...and half the time i find "tammie" it will close out as soon as i tap the name.. even if i go into people/contacts, and try to send a text that way it takes forever their info to load to get into message them. the fastest way is to scroll through all of my old text messages and hopefully i have text that person before..any ideas whats going on?
i cleared my web history, cookies ect..tried deleting photos and videos, and deleted all of my old texts, thinking i was somehow short on memory, even though i have a ton left...

Android :: Chrome To Phone - Don't Kill Google Messaging Service

Aug 3, 2010

Based on some quick tests, I've noticed the following: if you kill the Google Messaging Service, Chrome to Phone (a.k.a. Send to Phone) will stop working.

This seems rather obvious, but I had been in the habit of killing the Google Talk Service (GTalk) prior to Froyo. After Froyo, it looks like the service was renamed/replaced with Google Messaging Service.

I suspect that killing the Google Messaging Service could affect other Google services too.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Stock Messaging App Not Finding All Contacts

Dec 25, 2009

I woke up this morning and had texts from multiple people wishing me a merry Christmas. When I finally came around I decided to send a mass text message out to all my friends and family. I started trying to link people by using COMPOSE >MENU>PEOPLE and thought to myself "wow I thought I had more friends than this...i'm a loser." Then I went and checked my phonebook and realized that the messaging service is not linking to all my contacts in my phone book.

Anyone else have this issue. Or any ideas on how to fix it? It sucks cause I had to go through and type the first few letters of each for it to pop up, instead of just clicking the contact name like usual. I started using the stock messaging app last week when I had a lot of issues with Handcent. Once i switched I saved alot of battery for some reason.

Motorola Droid :: Contacts Only Syncing To Google All Contacts Not My Contacts

Jan 16, 2010

I seem to be having a sync issue with my Droid. When I add a contact to my phone, it doesn't sync into "My contacts" in Gmail; it'll sync into "All contacts". So, a couple of questions:

1) How can I get the phone to add new contacts created on my Droid into "My contacts" in Gmail?

2) I'm trying to understand the point of "All contacts". Why does Gmail want to keep a list of anyone that I've ever sent an email to? Otherwise, it'll be simple enough to just merge the two groups and call it a day.(Note: When I bought my Droid I did NOT have the VZW sales person transfer my contacts or any data from my old Blackberry to my Droid. I used Google Sync on my BB and synced my contacts from my BB to Gmail, then when I got the Droid, it automatically pulled my contacts from Gmail.)(FWIW, yes, I did a search and found two great threads: http://androidforums.com/support-troubleshooting/15042-how-do-i-push-droid-contacts-back-gmails-my-contacts.html and http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/15069-contacts-dont-really-synchronize.html but I have a different situation than most of those guys and I'd actually prefer to sift through and merge a couple of contacts from "All contacts" to "My contacts" every once in a while than deal with a backup and factory reset.)

I don't know if it's a bug of these two apps or Android's in general. Remembering that this associations are shown only inside Android's native file manager. It's like every "unknown MIME type file" act like being the same.

Android :: Convert Google Contacts Back To Phone Contacts

Nov 16, 2010

When I switched to the Samsung Fascinate from a previous non-smart phone, I transferred all of my contacts from the phone over. I think in the setup somewhere I chose to convert my contacts to Google contacts. That was really confusing at first, because I didn't know what it did, and didn't even remember I had done that until recently. I'd like to get the contacts back to phone contacts (not Google contacts) for multiple reasons, which I won't bother listing for now. So, does anyone know how to UN-convert or re-convert Google contacts back into phone contacts? I really don't want to have to recreate all of the phone contacts, because I've got a LOT of them. I would remove my Google account from the phone, but I worry that would remove all of my contacts completely, which wouldn't help me.

KitKat 4.4 :: Google Cloud Messaging (GCM) Behind Firewall?

Nov 15, 2013

easy way to use GCM (push message on Android for Gmail, Hangouts, etc.) behind a firewall?

The problem is not that companies want to block GCM, they are just unaware of the fact that their firewall is blocking it by default. GCM uses ports 5228, 5229 & 5230 which are almost always blocked on corporate networks. This means push messages don't come through. It also seriously screws with Hangouts (when I open the app random messages come though while others don't; this results in only being able to see parts of conversations).

Response from Google is to request the ports to be opened. This is not an option as I work as a consultant and move between clients. I can't get them all to open up the ports.

Google is seriously hampering the use of Android and Google services for professional use by using non-standard ports. I don't understand why they are not openly pushing for the ports to be opened by default or use standard ports (could also just be as a fallback if the preferred ports are blocked).I can't use Hangouts professionally now (which I would prefer over Skype).

Android :: How To Turn Phone Contacts Into 'Google' Contacts?

Jul 26, 2010

I own a HTC hero (Orange). With talks of android updates becoming available, there seems to be a mad rush to back up everything so that nothing is lost on the update. There are many ways of doing this, but one of the most common problems, is that people have their contacts saved as 'Phone' contacts and not 'Google' contacts. This means that they will not sync with Google mail. There was no contact export available to me (I think because my firmware was still 1.5).
This seems to be a solution that will solve the problem without having to write out every single contact number in Google mail.
1. Enter android market.
2. Search 'Contact sync'
3. Download/Install this application.
4. Run the application
5. All contacts will be turned from 'Phone' contacts to 'Google' Contacts
6. These contacts will then be synchronized with your Google mail
This means that if your contacts are lost on your phone at any point (eg. an update), they can easily be 'Exported' back to your phone through Google mail.
