Android :: Setting A Custom App For Car Dock?

This seems like an obvious thing, but I can't find any way to do it.When I put my phone in the car dock, instead of auto-launching the official "car dock" application, I want to launch an app of my own choosing. (in this case vlingo)I can find various apps that specifically replace the car dock app, but that's not what I want, I want to use vlingo (which doesn't seem to have that option by default)Just to be clear, I don't want an app that gives me an icon I can click to launch vlingo, that would defeat the purpose as I can already click the icon on my home screen to launch it if I want.So how can I set what program launches when I drop it in the car dock?

Is anyone else having issues with the Smart Alarm feature? Everytime I go select it, it lets me check smart alarm, and pick the duration I want (5 mins) and then the sound I want (breeze) but it still plays the regular alarm melody everytime- even though I can physically see that smart alarm is checked. Is this a bug?

Can you set your home screen vertical (upright)wallpaper picture to be different than the horizontal (sideways) wallpaper? Just wanting to know because my wallpaper when upright (vertical position) does not look good when sideways (horizontal position). when sideway, because the differences in dimension of the screen, takes my wallpaper picture out of center so you cant see the entire picture.

Firstly, I love this app! Finally got my Desire looking awesome! One slight problem though, I'm running Defrost 2.9a with Launcher Pro, and have changed the dock icons to custom ones. However, every so often, two of these custom icons revert back to the original ones for no reason?! Anybody had anything similar. I would definitely pay for the Pro version of this app, if I knew that would fix the issue...

I can't figure out how to add a custom wallpaper and my LP dock bar that I made to the gallery so I can use them. I transferred them to the SD card but the gallery isn't picking anything up. Do I have to make a folder inside the SD card folder with a certain name?

I realized that I had to build my own custom dock after reading on other custom dock threads.Most of them were cool but none have had forward facing speakers so far.I didn't want my Droid speaker in constant use when using Pandora, videos, etc. and I wanted speakers facing me, not back. This is what I came up with.It runs on two AA batteries, volume is controlled through phone and bumps loud enough to be heard clearly from 30 feet away. Is there an app that can set different alert tones when new messages come in? I need a different alert tone for different email senders?I need something to alert me with different tones when different people send me email.Currently it seems it is an all or nothing thing. Am I forgetting something? I used chompSMS to set custom notifications for specific people texting and it works. I used Ringdroid to assign custom ringtones to people and all that comes through is the default when they call.

I just purchased a fascinate today and it's pretty solid, however I noticed that when I try to set a custom picture for the background, it won't let me select the whole picture and it zooms in ridiculously too much. Now, I've tried almost everything, but nothing seems to work. Can anyone help me?Oh, if you have the fascinate, download handscent for messaging. I had a blackberry before the fascinate and it's similar to the crunch sms for blackberry. It's convenient because it allows you to customize the length of the vibrations and led lights, but the fascinate doesn't seem to have led light capability. It also allows you to customize the bubbles a well as the colors per contact and all that. Definitely something to look into.

I did a search in the captivate forums and couldn't find this one. I'm trying to set the tone for text notifications.If I go to Settings>Sound>Notification Ringtone it only gives me the pre-loaded sounds.If i go to the sound file in my phone and click "set as" it only gives me options for voice call ringtone, caller ringtone, and alarm tone.

How would one go about doing this with a Droid 2? I'm trying to add them so I can set ringtones for individual contacts, so when they call, I know who is calling me. I have tones already picked out and saved to my Gmail account. I thought I would be able to set them from there, but it turns out that's not possible. I used to be able to do this on my LG Chocolate.I had sent the tones I wanted using a service called Mobile17.

In ProgressDialog's documentation it says:"A dialog showing a progress indicator and an optional text message or view. Only a text message or a view can be used at the same time."I've gotten it working beautifully with a message, but I want to use a custom view instead - a message with a cancel button. But calling setView() on the ProgressDialog seemingly has no effect - it shows the progress bar in the dialog but nothing else. I've tried it with just a TextView with the text "hello", but it doesn't show up.

I am trying to get the images to have transparent backgrounds so the map is not blocked by a square marker with an image in it. What image editor and what settings should I use to get this to work?
I am trying to do some custom backgrounds for buttons and the same problem comes up: I get square corners and a background that does not scale with the buttons.
I think this all part of the same problem: I am not using the right tool with the right settings to create the images. I must be misinterpreting the documentation and examples that talk about a white border around the image and a black line along the top and left side for the expandable button background.
Here's a quick way to reproduce the problem:

For the icon I first used the image copied from the page:
Next I edited the picture in Microsoft Paint, and cut off the little guy's antennae. I'm not cruel and no real androids were harmed in that experiment. I surrounded the new picture with a pixel thick border of white, copied from the border that was around the rest of the image, and then copied the black that was there as well in the void areas of the image, outside the border.
I saved the image as myandroid.png and copied the file to the layout folder. Pointed the activity to the new pic and ran the program.
The image was displayed with a full square background and shadow, not the android shaped image and shadow that was there when the original image was used.
Custom Button background:

Next, I created an image to expand as a background for the button called backbutton.png. It too is surrounded by a white border and black filled on the corners, the top and one side per documentation I found in "Android Programming Tutorials" on page 298.
The background does not expand, nor do the corners round.
I wish I could show you screenies of what I have.
How do you create the images for the custom backgrounds and the images for the custom map markers and buttons? I need to know what image editor to use and the file attributes to set, so the images expand and display with the proper void spaces in them.

I'm trying to figure out if this has been done before. If so, a link to it would be greatly appreciated.I would like to use the Android Home Dock for my car. I'm thinking that i will (somehow) have to splice the power cord for the home dock and wire it to my car battery so it would keep my phone charged while docked. I also have a perfect spot to place the dock in my car via velcro. The reason why i do not want the car dock is because:
1. it wont keep your phone charged in a clean manner
2. it does not look as clean as the home dock
3. the arm for the car dock is too short for me to reach the phone comfortably on my windshield

Moving over from Palm, I have been with them from the days of the Treo 600. And I love the look of the Palm Pre but went with the Sprint HTC Hero. So I was wondering if there is a app the will give me a wave icon dock like what is on the Pre? I have a 3rd party app that I used on my Centro and loved it!

i'm torn between two worlds the world without HTC sense where you can have a shortcut dock on the homescreen as provided by LauncherPro, and the world with HTC sense where more homescreen widgets work.So, the question is - can you get a dock like the one offered by LauncherPro and keep Sense, or, can you get more widgets to work with LauncherPro. Widgets like the agenda calendar where your facebook contacts and any other events show up in a list?

I am running launcherpro and I want to customize my dock icons which I had previously removed (minimalist here) so it would be blank. Now I want to use the dock again for some nice text icons I found but when I add them to the dock they do nothing when pressed. How do I re-designate the function for these custom icons?

I just got the Motorola Droid and it's great. I was playing around with it and it looks like I may have moved the "Google Search" that was originally docked at the top of the screen. Is there a way to get it to dock at the top of the screen again? I try to move it up there and it doesn't appear to be sticking / docking.

Is anyone out there using One Nightstand as their media dock app? I downloaded it and like the clean screen and features a lot. But there are a few things I don't understand, and there's no developer website.
1) What's the "RING" mean in the lower right corner? It's there whether I have the app muting or allowing the ringer, notifications, system sounds, and vibrations. In other words, I can't get it to go away.
2) In the EXTRAS menu, what's the difference between "Quick calendar" and "System Calendar"?
3) In the EXTRAS menu, what's "LED Blackout" do? It doesn't turn off the "back/menu/home/search" LEDs on a Moto Droid.
