Android :: Google Search - Dock On Top

Mar 13, 2010

I just got the Motorola Droid and it's great. I was playing around with it and it looks like I may have moved the "Google Search" that was originally docked at the top of the screen. Is there a way to get it to dock at the top of the screen again? I try to move it up there and it doesn't appear to be sticking / docking.

Android :: Implement Search Like The Google Maps Address Search?

Aug 27, 2010

I would like to create a search in my app which acts like the map search in the Google Maps app. I have creates an an auto complete text view which updates dynamically based on the results of the Geocoder.GetLocationByName() Method. However the results retrieved from this function are really bad and not at all consistent with the text I pass to it. Is there a better method of doing this to achieve accurate results?

Android :: Need Google Search

Apr 13, 2010

I have searched the forum and found other people in the past looking to do local searches but I didn't see an answer. I also found the documentation for the AJAX api but I'm not sure if that is what I need. I'm a little lost and I'm not sure exactly where to begin. An example would be great. I have a List View and I need to show business names in it. The names will come from a Google search based off of category and locale Ideally the results will come back in XML, but I can handle anything else if necessary.

I've got an HTC Hero cell phone, I'm in the UK but when I use Google search bar on my phones "desktop" I get directed to the Orange France web site to sign in as a cell phone customer. I'm a frequent visitor to France and suspect that I changed something in Google a couple of years ago but can't remember what. I would call my cell phone providor only I've noticed French results coming up in my search results occasionally when Googling on one of my PC's at home. I checked my search settings in Google and they are logged as UK and English.

Android :: Update Google Search

I downloaded google search last night even though we already have it built in, apparently when you go to the market it doesn't show google search as installed nor an update. I installed it and it appears to have updated the built in google search in our phones. I then uninstalled it just to see if it would tell me there was an update and then it did. I thought I would post this so everyone can update their google search. Also don't forget to install/update google voice search while you're at it.

I didn't see this posted anywhere here and thought it was cool. For those of you that like to read. (I totally copy and pasted this from the Tmobile forum.)Google has launched a mobile version of its Book Search application which gives Android and iPhone users access to over 1.5 million out of copyright texts from authors including Austen, Dickens and Shakespeare. Google has optimised the texts for iPhone and Android handsets, and users will need an internet connection to view them. The texts are separated under handy categories including General Fiction and Mystery, and the service keeps a list of recently viewed eBooks and allows you to bookmark your page.

Android :: Google Search Api For Systems

Mar 23, 2010

I'm trying to build an android app that would do a local search on google.I know there is a Google Search API for Java, and I am able to use it for a desktop application. However, when I use the same jar file (gsearch.jar) in my android project, Some problems arise.When I call the .localSearch() method of my gsearch.Client object, a runtime error is occurring. The error message is: "java.lang.VerifyError: gsearch.Client". This message is occurring in the Dalvik Debug Monitor log.So what is the problem here? Can I not use the search API on the android? More importantly, how do I do a local search from an android app? Does the android sdk have search APIs inbuilt? I could only find the Maps api, and Map search is not what I'm looking for.

Motorola Droid X :: Car Dock Nav NOT Standard Google Nav - Works Poorly

Sep 14, 2010

I got my DX almost two weeks ago, and immediately ordered the Motorola Car Dock. When you dock it, and it goes into car dock mode, it has a "My Location" button, which takes you to a google map with some overlayed buttons (some kind of skin, essentially). You can select "Nav" on that screen, but it does not take you to the Google Nav app, instead it opens up a dialog box, where you can enter your destination. Then it will work like Google Nav. It really stinks that if you return to the cardock home screen, to change your music or something, when you come back to the My Location> Nav, you will have to re-enter your destination.

Another huge frustration from the lack of integration with the Google Nav app, is when you use the standard Google Nav App (like set a destination, before you leave the house), and then get in the car and enter car dock mode, you can not access your current Nav through car dock mode. You can still get back to it, but you have to exit "car dock mode", and open the Google Nav App. Anyone have any solutions to this? If it were possible, the simplest thing would be to remove the "My Location" button and replace it with a shortcut to the Google Nav App. It does not appear that you can change any of the preset buttons. There is one button that you can set, but I have it set for Pandora, since I use it frequently.

Motorola Droid X :: Car Dock And Google Maps Navigation Error

Jul 22, 2010

Just got off the phone with two VZW reps who couldn't give me an answer and suggested that I use VZ Navigator since Verizon can support that software, LOL. My Problem: Used Google Maps Navigator for the first time today. Was using my Motorola Car Dock I purchased and got the address put in and everything then tapped "Navigate". Si there I am and have my nice map view of the route I'm taking and every 30 or so seconds it would flip to a grey screen with multiple tiered options, first of which was "my location" and the address. Below that was the option to tap "Navigate" again which took me back to the map view as it should be. Problem is that it just kept popping back into the grey tier screen every 30 or so seconds. I took it off the dock and this doesn't seem to be happening while not on the dock although I get another message telling me to detach the charger from the wall to conserve battery...WTF? After speaking in depth with VZW reps they seem clueless. First rep told me to try and uninstall Google maps and reinstall (which come to find out I can't do after speaking to the second rep) while the second rep seemed to want to glorify his Droid Incredible and how great it was over the Droid X. he offered to reset my phone but advised I would have to sync all my contacts again, redo all my widgets and reconfigure all my e-mail addresses. Anybody else experiencing this problem with the car Dock and Google Navigation?

Android :: Verizon Dropping Google Search

Sep 9, 2010

EXCLUSIVE: Verizon Dropping Google Search From All Future Androids? Android Phones, Android Tips, Android News Thedroidguy.com. "We've been working on this story since yesterday in regards to the Verizon Samsung Fascinate, A Galaxy S Phone. After the Samsung Galaxy release event in late June we discovered, as the rest of you did, that Bing would be the search on the fascinate. We pinged Verizon spokeswoman, back on July 1, 2010 who gave us this reply: We also have a great relationship with Microsoft and Bing is the default search engine on our feature phones. Customers may change the search engine on their phones if they like. However after careful review of the Samsung Fascinate we found that the Google Search" bar is not in the Android Widgets menu, nor can you access it from market. Also we tried several of the Google Seach bar and have not been able to get those to work either. These are working on the Captivate, and Vibrant as side loads. Here where the story gets interesting. 2 of our Verizon tipsters, including the one who substantiated those HTC Merge photos back on August 4th, have told us that Verizon is dropping the Google Search from all future Android Devices and offering Bing in it place. We were under the impression that Verizon is committed to the entire Google/Android experience."

Android :: Google Maps Search Disappears

I have a problem with Google Maps. Everytime I start searching for something in Google Maps, the search box will disapper while typing like I hit the back button. I don't recall this type of behavior happening in any other application. I'm using a Spring HTC hero with Fresh 2.4 (Andriod 2.1) and I'm running the latest version of Google Maps (4.6). After some quick google searching I have seen other andriod phones with similar issues, so I don't think it's related to Fresh. THis issue also happened with the previous version of Google Maps.

Android :: Google Local Search Broken?

Apr 16, 2010

Is it my imagination or did the Google search results recently get useless?It used to be, I would search on my N1, say for "office depot" and it would show me web results with local results included. Then when I clicked on "Show Map" it would go to Google Maps and I would have the option of navigating to that location.Now, I click "Show Map" and it shows me a map with an arrow for the location and I can't do a damn thing.Am I the only one who's seeing this? I updated Google Maps a few weeks ago, and I'm thinking that's when it broke.As a workaround, I've discovered if I do the search from within Google Maps I can still navigate, but it's a headache.
