Android :: Notifications Volume All The Way Down So It Only Vibrates
Mar 2, 2010
I have a droid eris and i like to keep the notifications volume all the way down so it only vibrates. I've noticed that when I turn the ringer volume to vibrate and then back up or turn the phone off it resets my notification volume.

I wasn't sure where to post this so I figured I'd just throw it in the general forum and see how it went. Does anyone else get kind of irritated by the way you have to set the volume/vibrate setting for notifications? I want ONE control that will put the entire phone on either silent, vibrate or ring. For some reason I can't choose a master sound profile, I have choices for each individual messaging app.. I really just don't get it, I'm almost dumbfounded by how insanely involved it is to just get a vibrate notification or none at all. Granted I have had and INC since the week it launched and love this phone, I just don't get it. Am I missing something? I put my phone on VIBRATE and NOTHING VIBRATES unless in the program's settings I have vibrate checked, which means it will vibrate all the time, in vibrate mode, silent, doesn't matter. Is there any way to make it so whatever setting I have my phone volume set too or what i would consider to be the "master" volume is what my notifications will do? I realize this is a bit of a rant but I'm kind of flustered over this. I don't understand why the volume control doesn't just control everything collectively. A good example would be, if my phone is on vibrate and someone tries to TikL me... I don't want the sound to come through, which it did while I was in a meeting... not good. Are all android OS phones like this or just HTC? (I will try and explain myself better and maybe edit this post, i just needed to blow off some steam because I feel this is a rube golberg way of setting sound profiles..

Any way or an app to unlink the ringtone and notification volume? This is a real deal breaker for me. I need to find a way to be able to set the phone on a "phone only" mode at night so that only the ringer is on.
this is on the new Galaxy Nexus with ICS. It was available on older version of android.

Thursday Poll: Experiencing Volume Issues With Your DROID X? | Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog
It seems like many people are having trouble hearing their notifications. Is the volume problem really as bad as the poll suggests?
I'm literally on the verge of getting the Droid X but I have a few concerns regarding volume.
1) I use my phone as my alarm
2) I commute via train quite a bit, and not being able to hear the phone would suck
3) Is the volume for turn by turn navigation low also?

Does anyone know where the value for "Use incoming call volume for notifications" is stored? This is a checkbox found in the Ringer Volume settings that allows you to set a separate notification volume and incoming call volume. I would like to programatically toggle the value, but I can't figure out where it's stored. I looked at Context.AudioManager, I see methods for controlling the notification volume, but I can't find a setting for separating notification volume from incoming call volume.

I use Google Voice for all SMS notifications. I use the Gmail application for my email.Does anyone know of an application that will vibrate my phone at a certain interval, e.g., every 2 minutes, until I actually open my phone and acknowledge that I've received the notification?I would LOVE THIS! I used to have a phone that did this and it came in handy. I find that my Incredible's vibrations are a little light, and I often miss important texts when it's on vibrate.

I'm writing an Android application that plays back voice mails using Media Player, which are just WAV files that have been sent to the device. When I play the file, it's played on the device's speaker, or else it plays through headphones if they're plugged in. What I want to do is play the file so that it sounds to the user as if it's at the same volume level as a normal phone call. Is there a way to route playback so that the file is played through the phone's ear piece instead of out of the speaker?

My Android phone is bricked. It is an MT6515 phone; model i9270+ (Chinese dual SIM phone).I had trouble rooting it, so I was half way there following steps in THIS thread. T
I accidentally flashed my phone with the wrong boot image from fast boot ("fastboot flash boot boot.img"). I had a clockwork mod backup copy of my own boot.img, so I just wanted to reflash it. Fastboot said that the flash failed.
I tried again, and then in the middle of the process my command prompt stalled. Phone was in flashing process for about an hour, so I hit Ctrl+C to stop it... I wanted to do a recovery from the phone itself using clockwork recovery...
When I wanted to boot my phone there was no screen light. The phone just vibrates twice and that's all.
PC won't recognize it, so I can't go back to fastboot mode. Key combination (vol up + power) won't bring fastboot mode...This phone seems completely bricked...

On one page of my app there are sounds. Is there a line of code to allow the volume up/down buttons to switch to media volume control for that page of the app only? Or do I need to set it for the entire app, and how do I do that?

when putting your phone on vibrate, it should automatically know to vibrate when you receive notifications, be it emails or messages. instead, as it stands, you must go into the settings for the individual app and check "vibrate". this is super annoying. i have found a work around for messages. i use sms popup. without even enabling vibrate in that app or the messages app, when i put my phone on vibrate now, it vibrates when i get a message. but, is anyone else having the same issue regarding vibrate? is this how it's designed to work? if so, it needs to be changed.

I just recieved my hero today and I love it except when I get a text or call it only vibrates, even when the ringer is on full volume. I went to Settings>Ringtone> and everytime I changed my ringtone, it WOULD NOT sample the tone even when the media and ringtone volume was FULL!

I was halfway through the 2.1 update & it came up with an error saying that the update had failed. I now can't turn on my phone. At first I thought it might be a flat battery issue (even though my battery was at 100% before starting the update). After having the mains charger plugged in for over an hour, there was no activity on the LED. When I try to power on the phone, it vibrates but nothing.
When I plug the phone into the PC USB lead, the green light comes on for about 10 seconds, then goes off for a couple of seconds. Again, if I try to power on the phone, it vibrates but nothing else. While I have the phone plugged in via USB, the PC Companion tries to recognize the phone, it does but then says it's not connected as if it's cycling the power just long enough to connect then disconnect. I've also tried all of the above without the SIM card and SD Card in.

All of a sudden the keypad/screen doesn't vibrate when I type in numbers.
Looked in settings and can't find what to change.
Probably something obvious but can't see the wood for the trees.

Recently purchased the Virgin Mobile Supreme (Sprint Vital, ZTE N9810). The one thing that is bothering me is that there is only one volume setting for the combined ringtone and notifications. I would like to set these volumes separately.
I tried one volume control tool, but even though it had 'separate' controls changing ringtone changed notification and vice versa.

I noticed that when turning down the volume of the ringer with the volume rocker it doesn't automatically turn down the notification volume as well. Is there a way to set the volume rocker to adjust both notification and ringer volume to the same level? You can test this by going under Settings/Sound and Display/Ringer Volume...and try adjusting the volume with the rocker and it only adjust the Ringer Volume.

I have Android 4.2 on my mobile phone which I have bought recently.
Everything is running fine on my phone so far but with the exception of my clock's alarm volume.
For example:I set the alarm volume to max, I go and set my clock alarm to ring and when the alarm rings the volume is set to very low. When I check back to verify the volume, the volume is set to very low. I am very sure that I have set it to max though.
I have tried to reset my phone to factory settings, it didn't work..

my htc sensation shut down yesterday, and as yet I have been unable to get it on, the battery itself was still sitting at about 15%. When I plug the phone into the wall or computer the orange led flashes slowly. When I attempt to turn the phone on it vibrates repeatedly as if trying to boot, but nothing appears on the screen. I have tried to jump start the phone, hard reboot, bootload through the pc but nothing seems to be happening. I need my phone urgently as my wife is due to give birth anyday now, and she needs to be able to contact me at work.
