HTC EVO 4G :: How To Open Attachments From An Imap Account?
Aug 1, 2010We will be replacing our Palm Treo 755s with HTC EVOs. I have one now and am tasked with getting all the synchronization set up and working for the 30 attorneys and administrative staff I support. The only issue I am having is that I am unable to see, let alone open attachments on emails I receive on the phone. I can see that the message has an attachment because it has a paper clip next to the subject/sender in the email list. When I open the email, I see no evidence of an attachment. One thing I just figured out was that I can open PDF attachments as the phone came with a PDF viewer, but cannot open .DOCs even though I have installed the Docs Togo basic program. (It includes the DOC and XLS viewers). Is this not sufficient to open the attachments? If not is there some other FREE app that will allow me view these attachments on my EVO?

Jul 8, 2009I've written an app that can handle the VIEW action for a given mime Type, say "application/foo". By adding the following to Android Manifest.xml the Browser automatically uses my app to open downloads of that type. The G Mail app also tries to use my app to Preview attachments of that type, but it's passing a URI with scheme "g mail-ls://" rather than a "file://" URI. I guess I need to use a Content Provider to get the attachment data, I haven't looked into that yet. But the real mystery is the Email app there just doesn't seem any way to make it open the attachments. Any pointers? Opening attachments is a very common requirement of course, and I would expect the Android platform to encourage developers to write apps to handle more mime types. Instead I couldn't find any answers.

But when I get emails with attachments I have to save the attachments on the phone then navigate to where they are saved to be able to view them. Is there a setting that can be changed or an app to download that will allow me to view the files without saving them to the SD card?

Dec 25, 2011I cannot open email attachments of any type using the stock email or TouchDown app, which I use to pull email from my job's Exchange Server. Email functions fine otherwise. I can see that an email has an attachment, but when i click to download, the process begins then always ends with the message 'Not implemented". This happens will all file types.

Oct 4, 2010I have a non-rooted 2.2 Inc with the 2.3 version G mail app. Since updating to 2.3, I can no longer preview/download attachments. The app gets stuck on "Fetching Attachment" and eventually force closes. I've sought help from Google but there's no official answer to this issue. Does anyone here have any advice? I've even gone so far as to do a factory reset, but to no avail. Like many of you, the Incredible is my workhorse on the road and I desperately need the ability to open attachments.

We are both unable to see pictures sent to us as part of an email (like pictures in a joke). And she is unable to open pictures as email attachments in her Yahoo acct. Aug 31, 2010when receiving pictures through gmail (I simply use the gmail app) they don't automatically appear in the email, like it does on my girlfriends Captivate through the gmail app. She didn't do anything special, just set up email and when she receives pics when she opens the email they're just there. Now there is the download and preview button next to the attachments but when I hit those my phone just says "fetching attachment, please wait". I've left my phone for at least 5 minutes and it will just sit on that screen. On one pic I did let it sit for a few minutes, gave up waiting, but noticed the pic later in my dowloaded folder. But this is the only pic it's done that with. So I would a way to get the pics to just show up in my email when I open the email, or not have to wait minutes on end for a pic to maybe get downloaded. I feel like there should be some solution without me having to download some app, since my girl's phone can do it.

This can be done any which way, and I'm open to suggestions if you can tell me how to send over network or something like that. Currently, I'm looking at sending the file as an email attachment, but I haven't found any good documentation on how to do it. I need two things to accomplish this, be able to send my file (stored on sd card or somewhere on device) as an attachment, and have my app recognized by android as the app to open an attachment with the file extension (.lst).

Jul 1, 2010I've just got my HTC Desire and configured it all as standard i.e. followed the install walkthough. It is now up and running but I've noticed within my GMAIL account some IMAP folders have arrived, these are new folders all emails that are used on the phone now arrive with one of these labels on. I tried changing the titles of these within GMAIL but then it sets up the Imap ones again. anyone know if I can either get the phone to stop doing this, or if I can change the label?

Jun 8, 2010I have 2 hotmail accounts, a gmail account, and another account. After doing some digging it seems that the only IMAP IDLE or other push-email support for hotmail is if you have a BB. There was something about a new feature coming out with the next windows live update but that is a while away.
1. What I'm trying to do is get my gmail set up in K-9 with the IMAP IDLE. As I understand it this is near enough instant email delivery which is exactly what I need. I entered my details into K-9 using the automatic account setup. Is there a drawback to this? What about security like SSL/TLS? and authentication? And whats this about compression on Mobile/WiFi/Other networks?
I sent an email from my hotmail to test if IMAP IDLE was working. It took a 3 minute delay for both my desktop and phone to pick up the email.
I am running K-9 2.6 on a Hero 1.5
2. It is likely it was just the latency between email servers at peak time, but are there any steps I could take to tune K-9 into a leaner meaner email receiver? In the options I see 1st class folders, 2nd class folders, folders to check with push, other folder options, configuring ingoing/outgoing mail servers.
3. I understand that the 1st/2nd class are priorities but what do the above options mean for me?
4. I'm going to forward both hotmails to my gmail. Any ideas for a better setup? Or have they tried similar and had problems?
Android : K9 Email - Set It Up Using IMAP
Jun 1, 2010I'm trying to set up K9 on my Incredible and am having one little problem (so far).
I'm trying to set it up using IMAP.
When I set up the account, I chose Push (though I don't see that option anywhere now that the account has been set up). I also have polling off.
That still seems to be checking email and notifying me upon arrival of new emails.
What I'm having trouble with, though, is it's not syncing correctly with my server. If I delete/mark read/etc an email on the server, that doesn't get automatically reflected in K9.
That's how IMAP is supposed to work.
If I delete it on K9, it does immediately delete it off my server.
Any idea what I might be missing?
Also, is using K9 w/Push going to be tougher on the battery than using the Gmail app?

Nov 14, 2009"Unable to open connection to server." That's the message I'm getting from my Droid every time I try to set up a connection to my web hosts SMTP server using IMAP. The settings I put in the Droid work fine on my laptop and on my blackberry.
I've tries using ports 25, 1025, 465 and 587. I even tried 143 and 585. Anyone have any clue why this is happening? Anyone else having trouble with SMTP/IMAP connections to their email server? Right now I can't send emails from the Droid and that's a HUGE problem.

Sprint updated my profile today (turn on the picture mail app) and every since that time, I have not been able to open attachments. I have rebooted several times, un installed and re-installed the yahoo app, updated my profile and PRL. Still no luck. Any ideas?

Nov 17, 2010When I get my activity chooser for my ACTION_GET_CONTENT Intent there is applications I don't want to be there, like the ones who will first create content and then pass the URI to me, like the Voice Recorder. When you use Gmail and try to attach a file you will only see the applications/activities that picks data from your SDCard like Gallery, and in my case Astro (file manager application).
So my question is, what kind of Intent does Gmail use for their Attach? Here is my code, something must be missing since I get applications like Voice Recorder and so on.

HTC EVO 4G :: Using IMAP With AT&T / Yahoo Email
Aug 11, 2010I've seen various threads about IMAP settings to use for Yahoo email, but it wasn't clear from most of the posts I read whether it was referring to free Yahoo email or a Yahoo-based account associated with home high speed internet. Some gave parameters not using SSL encryption, and I know that would not work for me, but some used very similar setup to what I currently use on my Palm Pre (which uses an IMAP server with "palm" at the beginning of the name, so I don't know if there's a "secret handshake" between the Pre and the server that disallows access via other devices).
I have AT&T DSL (swbell domain email) and am strongly considering dumping my Pre for an EVO, but IMAP access to my swbell account is a must-have. I have a gmail account, but I'm pretty well-established with the swbell account, and don't want to deal with auto-forwarding. So has anyone successfully set up IMAP access to an AT&T/Yahoo email account? I tried using an IMAP server and parameters I found here through Windows Live Mail, but I keep getting some sort of certificate error claiming my system doesn't support something the server is expecting. I have tried in the past with Thunderbird as well using the palm IMAP server, and never succeeded with that either. So I'm a little hesitant to take the plunge until I have a high level of confidence it'll work. Plus I'm waiting for the Android version of HanDBase anyway, since I use that via Classic on my Pre. I don't mind buying an email client if the standard android client doesn't support it. I may do that anyway if there are better ones out there.
