HTC EVO 4G :: How To Open Attachments From An Imap Account?
Aug 1, 2010We will be replacing our Palm Treo 755s with HTC EVOs. I have one now and am tasked with getting all the synchronization set up and working for the 30 attorneys and administrative staff I support. The only issue I am having is that I am unable to see, let alone open attachments on emails I receive on the phone. I can see that the message has an attachment because it has a paper clip next to the subject/sender in the email list. When I open the email, I see no evidence of an attachment. One thing I just figured out was that I can open PDF attachments as the phone came with a PDF viewer, but cannot open .DOCs even though I have installed the Docs Togo basic program. (It includes the DOC and XLS viewers). Is this not sufficient to open the attachments? If not is there some other FREE app that will allow me view these attachments on my EVO?

Dec 25, 2011I cannot open email attachments of any type using the stock email or TouchDown app, which I use to pull email from my job's Exchange Server. Email functions fine otherwise. I can see that an email has an attachment, but when i click to download, the process begins then always ends with the message 'Not implemented". This happens will all file types.
I'm using an AT&T SGSII with Android 2.3.6

Jul 8, 2009I've written an app that can handle the VIEW action for a given mime Type, say "application/foo". By adding the following to Android Manifest.xml the Browser automatically uses my app to open downloads of that type. The G Mail app also tries to use my app to Preview attachments of that type, but it's passing a URI with scheme "g mail-ls://" rather than a "file://" URI. I guess I need to use a Content Provider to get the attachment data, I haven't looked into that yet. But the real mystery is the Email app there just doesn't seem any way to make it open the attachments. Any pointers? Opening attachments is a very common requirement of course, and I would expect the Android platform to encourage developers to write apps to handle more mime types. Instead I couldn't find any answers.

We are both unable to see pictures sent to us as part of an email (like pictures in a joke). And she is unable to open pictures as email attachments in her Yahoo acct. But when I get emails with attachments I have to save the attachments on the phone then navigate to where they are saved to be able to view them. Is there a setting that can be changed or an app to download that will allow me to view the files without saving them to the SD card?

Oct 4, 2010I have a non-rooted 2.2 Inc with the 2.3 version G mail app. Since updating to 2.3, I can no longer preview/download attachments. The app gets stuck on "Fetching Attachment" and eventually force closes. I've sought help from Google but there's no official answer to this issue. Does anyone here have any advice? I've even gone so far as to do a factory reset, but to no avail. Like many of you, the Incredible is my workhorse on the road and I desperately need the ability to open attachments.

May 5, 2010Trying to figure out why I can't open file attachments from emails. Received some pdf files and two doc files today. Tried opening files from email with pdf reader program and quickoffice or whatever its called. Neither type of file would open. Tried to download then open files with same problem. Files are definitely .pdf and .doc, just opened and rad them on laptop now. Also confused...is there any way to look at my SD card folders and files through a phone app? Can't figure out how to see anything other then my music and photos.

May 4, 2010Did a search first. Is there any way to name an email attachment? Whenever my wife emails me a picture of our dogs (no kids so these are our kids) it always comes through as "photo" so when I download it saves as that. Now if I don't go back into the picture viewer and rename it the next time i try to save a photo attachment it tries to overwrite the last one as its comes in as "photo". Sep 9, 2010I am trying to set up a Pop account on my Inc. but it fails every time. I used the same settings on a Moto Droid and it worked. The Verizon rep tested it on his phones and it also worked on the Moto Droid but not his Incredible. Spent an hour on the phone with HTC and their only answer is a hard reset - which is bullshit because it doesn't work on 2 different incredibles.

Sprint updated my profile today (turn on the picture mail app) and every since that time, I have not been able to open attachments. Sep 10, 2010I have a POP email address for work, and it seems like it will go days at a time without notifying me of new email, then all of the sudden send my 50 new emails. I did download a file manager that allows me to copy apps to my sd card and then move the card from my computer to my incredible. I can open/view attachments that have been sent to me, however I cannot open/view attachments in email messages that I have sent.
