Before I found out about that adb shell doesn't have the permission to do much with /data/data I was using my unrooted Verizon Droid for development of a content provider. How do I get rid of the database I created there? Is my best option writing a small app that drops the database?

How to drop a database in Android SDK?
Did not see any methods in android.database.sqlite.SQLiteOpenHelper or android.database.sqlite.SQLiteDatabase classes.
If I already upgraded my Droid X Unrooted phone to Froyo 2.2 with an earlier version I assume I will have to roll back to 2.1 to get the automatic update tomorrow. Is there a way to wait for one of the android sites to get the latest version, download it and do the upgrade myself? If I have to roll it back, what is the best way to do it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedGot a HTC Droid Eris the other day and absolutely love it.However, when adding a new contact on the phone, the drop bown menu box only lists "Phone" and does NOT give a "Google" or "Exchange" option as is indicated on p. 72 of the pdf "User Guide for Droid HTC Eris" by Verizon. I have examined 3 others Droid Eris phones of friends/family, and on each of their phones when adding a new contact the drop down menu box does list the "Google" option in addition to the "Phone" option.The problem with not being able to select "Google" as the contact type is that the contact information does not "sync" with the Gmail "Contacts List" online.

But the computer doesn't recognize the phone at all. It could be a problem with my computer, but I'm checking here in case I just can't find the option on the phone to "allow USB connection" or something.

View 8 Replies View RelatedFolks, apologies ... I have a very urgent request. Tomorrow I want to present an Android application on the phone (not on the emulator) to a group of students. I have a Samsung Galaxy running on Android 1.5. I got it all hooked up and I can see the device using "adb devices". I can also see it in DDMS. So the connection is fine. I even can install the application on the device - but I cannot run it. The main problem seems to be that my application cannot access the corresponding local SQLite database. Everything works perfectly on the emulator. I figured out that I also cannot access the data/data folder on the devices. It says "permission denied". Then I found out that I have to "root" the device. But absolutely no clue how I can do that. Also installing the apk through "adb install ...." did not work. What can I do in order to get my SQLite db on the device? Do I have to root it?

At the end of the day i want to export this database to a web server. Could anyone point me in the right direction for this? Should I use httppost or put. I have researched this myself online but there seems to be so many different ways to explore. The server side does not exist yet either. I have access to an apache server so i am hoping to use that. Could anyone advise me the best/most simple way to do this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI thought I remember seeing a thread about this, but couldnt find it. got a new replacement from sprint a few weeks ago. Ever since, the internet (3g) is horribly slow. Speed tests confirm the 3g will not get above 200kbps ever, no matter where I am. So obviously, I know this is a hardware problem, as sprint has already refreshed my network, and made me do a hard reset.They want me to take it into a store so they can "check it out" before they send me a new one. Problem is, I'm rooted. I used unrevoked, and am still on the stock rom, so it should look normal. The only thing I rooted for is to be able to use wireless tether. So the question is, can I just remove the superuser app and wireless tether temporarily while they check it out? Or should (can) I flash S-on first too? I know how to unroot, but I really dont want to have to spend a few hours re-installing all my apps and settings after.

View 42 Replies View RelatedI had a Nexus S. Got some games and got pretty far in them. I did not root the phone. Now I have an N4. I want to pick up where I left off on the new phone with regards to the games.. let's say, They Need To Be Fed as an example.
Now, neither phone is rooted, so obviously this complicates things, but it is not impossible. I can easily use Carbon to backup my app data and restore it onto the new phone without requiring a root. However I want to explore alternative methods.
So in a perfect situation, I would like the app data (and/or the app itself) to be backed up into one nice file that can be saved onto the new phone and then opened up to put the saved data where it needs to be. I'm not sure, but do .apk's contain app data as well? Could I save my current progress on TNTBF along with the app itself into a .apk and then extract the file on my new phone to continue where I left off?
What Carbon does is create a folder specific for the app and its data, which is a bunch of files I'm not familiar with, and requires Carbon to restore the data itself. Although this app is phenomenal and will be my last resort, I'd like something that doesn't require the app itself to restore the data. I used to use something called Ultimate Backup I think. When I selected to backup an app, it would save a .apk to the sd card. I'm not sure if it was backing up just the app or the app data as well, but if it did save the app data then that would be optimal.
I just rooted my moto droid. Now I am wondering if it is possible to drop 1.5 or other versions of the OS on the phone and if so how? If anyone could explain how I do this or link some forums that explain this. Or is there maybe a dual boot option b/c I don't want to always us 1.5 only for testing purposes.

All I would have to do is reboot, pick the nandroid file and go back to 1.5? Also, if I do revert back to 1.5 will the phone be unrooted as well? The usb not working is and old problem, tried to shift it out with ha new part, but that didn`t work.

Is there a way to just drag and drop movies onto the evo or do i have to convert each one i want to put on the phone?

I was sitting next to my friend who just got a droid and is unrooted. I was explaining how great everything was, but he was skeptical to root as most of us have been.
I wanted to make a phone call so I picked up my droid, but I went between 0 bars to half a bar and had a weak to no signal. I dialed the number, but the call wasn't going through. He, on the other hand had 3-4 bars consistently. I was pretty embarrassed when I had to ask him to use unrooted droid. I even tried *228 but my reception was still poor.
How can you explain this? More importantly how can I get "more bars" and a stronger signal.
My phone is stuck on 2.01 (droid) when I try to go into recovery by holding power+x the menu doesn't show up only the caution logo/phone this happened after I unrooted from the dmupdater.

Is there any way to tether without paying Verizon for the hotspot. I wont use it enough to pay for the service. I (like a noob) uninstalled some of the bloatware apps from a list of safe to remove apps and now I have a fear of messing things up when froyo comes out.
I'm pretty much done with rooting, so i've unrooted with DM. However, I no longer have the android marketplace. The droidmod forums are a goddamn ghost town, so I've decided to update to 2.1. Hopefully it will fix my problem. Now that my phone is unrooted, how can I force it to check for the 2.1 update? I remember reading about a number sequence that one dials, which forces the phone to check for updates.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is what I'm dealing with. I Used astro to get my droid into the 2.2 FRG01B but I'm NOT rooted from stocked 2.1 just like in the Guide but i didn't Backup any files or i don't have SPRecovery, or anything like that. My recover screen reads as follow;
1:Reboot
2:apply update.zip (which is what i did the first time to get to 2.2)
3:wipe date/Factory reset
4:Wipe Cache partition
5:wipe baseband data
As you can see i don't have install or anything of that nature. Now my question is, is there a way to get me back to 2.1 Stocked like when i got it or am i pretty much screwed with what i've done? If i haven't totally messed up can somebody provide a step by step so i don't mess anything up further.
