Is there a list anywhere of what apps are on the unrooted phones?
If some one could run
adb shell
cd /system/app
ls
or something..
I (like a noob) uninstalled some of the bloatware apps from a list of safe to remove apps and now I have a fear of messing things up when froyo comes out.

View 4 Replies View RelatedJust got a Droid 2 and I'm tinkering around. I saw the "Running Apps" list and its pretty useful if I say so myself. However is it necessary to go in there and stop apps that I'm not using all the time to save battery life? Do apps still run after their closed, because Facebook was running after use. And when stopping apps my phone tells me that "this can have undesired consequences on the app" which scared me a bit. I haven't even done my first charge yet, but my battery went down about 40% in about 2 and a half hours.

I have purchased several root-only apps from the market and I would like to know if what will happen to them during the process. Of course I know that when I unroot I will lose everything and then not be able to use them. But once I root my new phone will I be able to reinstall them? And will the people be able to view them in my downloads?

I realise there are a few threads about this, but I thought I would make a new one for my easier guide, and hopefully people will find it more easily as they won't have to scroll through pages of other threads to find an answer. I am now successfully running most apps from my SD Card now. I just thought I would make an easier guide as the others are fairly complex for noobs like me............
Just followed instructions on how to move apps to sd card on an unrooted device....all worked well, moved what i wanted to, but would now like to put phone back to default settings to install apps to phone memory.
I tried to open run command on my pc with phone connected and typed pm setInstallLocation 0.....but all that comes up is command is not recognized.
I want to translate my app into all available markets. code...

it lacks : polish pl_PL and nl_NL
Now what I'm doing is creating values-fr values-es directories. But my phone only has English and Spanish locales.
Here's two things that would help:
1. A definitive list of all locale suffixes that are allowable as the values-?? directory names 2. A way to add more locales to my phone.
Where can i get a complete list of content providers that Android offers out of the box? I'm looking for a content provider that list received SMS.

is done. However calling it from the thread will crash Android. Did many google searches but found nothing. How can I call updateMediaList when the thread is complete? (from the UI thread)
I'm pretty much done with rooting, so i've unrooted with DM. However, I no longer have the android marketplace. The droidmod forums are a goddamn ghost town, so I've decided to update to 2.1. Hopefully it will fix my problem. Now that my phone is unrooted, how can I force it to check for the 2.1 update? I remember reading about a number sequence that one dials, which forces the phone to check for updates.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is what I'm dealing with. I Used astro to get my droid into the 2.2 FRG01B but I'm NOT rooted from stocked 2.1 just like in the Guide but i didn't Backup any files or i don't have SPRecovery, or anything like that. My recover screen reads as follow;
1:Reboot
2:apply update.zip (which is what i did the first time to get to 2.2)
3:wipe date/Factory reset
4:Wipe Cache partition
5:wipe baseband data
As you can see i don't have install or anything of that nature. Now my question is, is there a way to get me back to 2.1 Stocked like when i got it or am i pretty much screwed with what i've done? If i haven't totally messed up can somebody provide a step by step so i don't mess anything up further.
If I already upgraded my Droid X Unrooted phone to Froyo 2.2 with an earlier version I assume I will have to roll back to 2.1 to get the automatic update tomorrow. Is there a way to wait for one of the android sites to get the latest version, download it and do the upgrade myself? If I have to roll it back, what is the best way to do it?

I am trying to write an application with a list of items read in from a file. This item list and the fields that go with each item are fed into a DB. The item names are presented to the user as an auto- completing list. Once the list item is selected, I would like to get the value from the list and use it to query the database and display all the detail information.
The problem I am having is trapping the event using onItemSelectedListener and onItemSelected.

How to get an OnItemSelectedListener to work? and how I grab the value selected?
I searched on how to completely remove both of these and one method was using Terminal Emulate. When i tried this method and typed in su to start the process it would say "permission denied". Do i have to reroot my phone again in order to get rid of these two apps? I'm doing this in order to take my phone to verizon. Do you guys think its necessary to make it perfectly clean of any "rooted" things? It is now unrooted it just has those two icons!! so frustrating. read somewhere else that if these icons are still there that i am still rooted...is this true? also I do not care if i lose everything... I just want my phone restored to factory settings so i can take it in to verizon..

I was sitting next to my friend who just got a droid and is unrooted. I was explaining how great everything was, but he was skeptical to root as most of us have been.
I wanted to make a phone call so I picked up my droid, but I went between 0 bars to half a bar and had a weak to no signal. I dialed the number, but the call wasn't going through. He, on the other hand had 3-4 bars consistently. I was pretty embarrassed when I had to ask him to use unrooted droid. I even tried *228 but my reception was still poor.
How can you explain this? More importantly how can I get "more bars" and a stronger signal.
I recently got the G1 and used my Gmail account online (via computer) to setup my contact list and then sync it to my G1. Now when I compose an SMS message, and begin typing the name of the person in my contact list, only some of the names that match will appear in the drop down auto-complete list but others that match don't show up at all. To compose SMS to them I have to use the Contacts>Scroll to contact>Select text to mobile method. Any ideas why some of the contacts do not show up in the auto-complete list when composing an SMS and typing in a partial name in the To field?

I see there are multiple different customized firmwares that enable root. But are there any firmwares that are exactly the same as the stock 2.01 or 2.1 firmware, except for being rooted? My work-around is to open the physical keyboard and edit. Is there a way to disable predictive text for a single word? That way "GF" doesn't change to "Greg", for example.

Before 2.2 There was a vibrate only option if you rocked the volume down just before the silent all option. Now, I can either only have vibrate with audio and a complete silent option; or a vibrate all option with no complete silent.
The vibrate only was great for things like movies, meetings, etc. The silent was great also when the vibrate itself is loud enough for an entire room to hear the buzz. Is there a script or an option I'm overlooking that would allow me to get that back?

There seems to be lots of discussions on Battery life, so I did a test myself. I was getting about the same battery life as everybody else, about 6-7 hours with moderate usage. Which is what all the beta testers were getting pre release. I thought I would give something a try. First of all, when I picked up the phone it was about 75% charged. I charged it to 100%, and let it go down to about 30% that first day and then charged it. I followed this everyday for the first week, and was still getting the same battery life out of it. I never allowed the device to completely drain and shut off. Well I gave that a shot, and what did I find, My battery is lasting much longer, like doubled. So give this a try. I let the phone die, completely die so it shuts off. Then charge it 100% overnight. Worked for me, don't know if it will work for you, but give it a shot.
