If I already upgraded my Droid X Unrooted phone to Froyo 2.2 with an earlier version I assume I will have to roll back to 2.1 to get the automatic update tomorrow. Is there a way to wait for one of the android sites to get the latest version, download it and do the upgrade myself? If I have to roll it back, what is the best way to do it?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was able to change the boot animation before Froyu using the procedure at http://androidforums.com/tips-tricks-evo-4g/109120-how-install-new-boot-animation-without-root.html.After Froyo, I've tried to push the zip file as VZW_bootanimation.zip and bootanimation.zip to both /data/local and /system/customize/resource (I can't write to that location, I think it's for rooted phones only). None of these four options worked.What am I missing? That native boot animation is nasty.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhy does the Inc have to be rooted in order to install Froyo? My Motodroid1 was able to install a leaked Froyo without having to root. Is there something more difficult in the software that the Inc uses or is it the actual leaked versions were never designed for an Incredible or what? I really don't understand why we seem to be lagging the Motodroid community in being able to install this. I'm sure someone has a perfectly good explanation and I obviously don't have a clue. I am a newbie with the Inc and I did love my Droid1 until it got run over and no replacements were available. I have to say that so far I am not that impressed with my Incredible. It's slimmer, I rarely used the slide out keyboard on the Droid 1-so I don't miss that, a few things seem to respond a little quicker, but overall I liked my old Droid1 better. The 2.2 I forced on the Droid was a huge improvement over 2.1. The 3d gallery glitches were gone, the mass updates were great, camera worked super. Battery life was always excellent, pics were clear, no dropped calls, always had a signal. Output volume to headphones was a little weak on a motorcycle but I solved that with a nice little pocket amp. I don't mean to knock our phones but... I never had to worry about battery life, poor signal strength,etc. And I miss the 3D gallery after the fix but I did find a thread here to help me install it in the Inc. When 2.2 gets here it should be a nice improvement but I wish battery life wasn't an issue and signal strength was better. I don't feel like spending some pretty good change for a high output battery.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm actually more disappointed than I am happy with the update. This is just a minor vent, ignore if you don't want to read. I'm coming from Windows Mobile. Having apps running or not, was a simple thing. With android, why does it have to be an annoyance? I understand Android handles programs in the background well esp Froyo. But why does it have to be a pain, esp for the OCD types, when you close apps you don't want running, they just open themselves again? You can go as far as going into the services, and shutting down that service, not only the app, and have that service restart itself. With 2.1, using Advanced Task Killer, the apps were closed and never really opened again. Unless I lost service or something, which for some reason triggers the internet related apps to open again.
Now I did a hard reset earlier hoping to fix some of the problems I'm having. It didn't really help at all. One problem I'm having is, my Evo NEVER sleeps. Currently synchronized at 0:52:xx Up/Awake times, restarted earlier hoping for change. 2.1, I never had this issue. And after hard resetting, I'd think it would be normal as it is the bare OS itself. Didn't work. Downloaded System Panel lite, forced closed some apps, also from settings-applications. Still same results. 2.1, I had a very good standby time when I wasn't using it.............
I don't know a ton about Android but I rooted my wife's EVO using Unrevoked (I think the 2nd rev of Unrevoked) earlier this year. I have been having her ignore the upgrade notice that keeps popping up until now - I'd like to upgrade her to 2.2 so we can have video chat w/ Yahoo Messenger. I downloaded the update and went to install and got the Android guy w/ the Exclamation Mark triangle thing. I've read thru a bunch of posts and it seems like most people recommend either unrooting by various methods then doing OTA update, or flashing a rooted 2.2 ROM.
Most of these posts are a couple months old from when the OTA came out and I was just wondering if there was a better way to go about doing this now that I am not finding. Bascially I want to: Upgrade from rooted 2.1 to rooted, standard Sprint 2.2 without losing any data/apps. Can someone point me to a step-by-step on how to do this or possibly a video walkthrough?
My phone is stuck on 2.01 (droid) when I try to go into recovery by holding power+x the menu doesn't show up only the caution logo/phone this happened after I unrooted from the dmupdater.

I (like a noob) uninstalled some of the bloatware apps from a list of safe to remove apps and now I have a fear of messing things up when froyo comes out.
I'm pretty much done with rooting, so i've unrooted with DM. However, I no longer have the android marketplace. The droidmod forums are a goddamn ghost town, so I've decided to update to 2.1. Hopefully it will fix my problem. Now that my phone is unrooted, how can I force it to check for the 2.1 update? I remember reading about a number sequence that one dials, which forces the phone to check for updates.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is what I'm dealing with. I Used astro to get my droid into the 2.2 FRG01B but I'm NOT rooted from stocked 2.1 just like in the Guide but i didn't Backup any files or i don't have SPRecovery, or anything like that. My recover screen reads as follow;
1:Reboot
2:apply update.zip (which is what i did the first time to get to 2.2)
3:wipe date/Factory reset
4:Wipe Cache partition
5:wipe baseband data
As you can see i don't have install or anything of that nature. Now my question is, is there a way to get me back to 2.1 Stocked like when i got it or am i pretty much screwed with what i've done? If i haven't totally messed up can somebody provide a step by step so i don't mess anything up further.
I'm looking for a stock unrooted FRG22D ROM to keep on my sd card. I used to have one to flash to set my phone back to stock, just in case I had to return it. I cant remember where I got it and can't find the thread it was in.

1. I run an application called "lockpicker" which allows me to bypass the Exchange Lock screen, which made me put in a password every time I would turn my phone off, or every time I would shut off the screen (which was VERY annoying). I have had no problems with my work email, connecting to it, or with the exchange lock screen since installing lockpicker. In fact, its like the lock screen doesnt even exist, which I love. I hear that lockpicker is NOT compatible with Froyo 2.2, which makes me extremely nervous about upgrading, because if I have to put in a code every time my phone goes to sleep, I will like the phone a lot less.
2. Google Listen - I use this program to listen to 5-6 podcasts that I subscribe to and I find that while it does have some bugs, its simple and the easiest way I have found to organize my podcasts and listen to them. I hear that this doesnt work anymore with 2.2 either (although I could be wrong).........
I searched on how to completely remove both of these and one method was using Terminal Emulate. When i tried this method and typed in su to start the process it would say "permission denied". Do i have to reroot my phone again in order to get rid of these two apps? I'm doing this in order to take my phone to verizon. Do you guys think its necessary to make it perfectly clean of any "rooted" things? It is now unrooted it just has those two icons!! so frustrating. read somewhere else that if these icons are still there that i am still rooted...is this true? also I do not care if i lose everything... I just want my phone restored to factory settings so i can take it in to verizon..

I was sitting next to my friend who just got a droid and is unrooted. I was explaining how great everything was, but he was skeptical to root as most of us have been.
I wanted to make a phone call so I picked up my droid, but I went between 0 bars to half a bar and had a weak to no signal. I dialed the number, but the call wasn't going through. He, on the other hand had 3-4 bars consistently. I was pretty embarrassed when I had to ask him to use unrooted droid. I even tried *228 but my reception was still poor.
How can you explain this? More importantly how can I get "more bars" and a stronger signal.
I just got my Eris and upgraded to the unrooted 2.1 Eris. Does anyone know how to launch live wall papers with the unrooted 2.1 update?

It's been working great but I keep getting messages about installing OTA updates but they always fail (says E: No signature (575 files) E: Verification Failed) I tried manually downloading the FRF85 and FRF91 update, copying as update.zip to my SD updating from the recovery menu but it still gives the same error. From the little info I've found online it may be an issue with the ROM but I can't tell for sure. My ultimate goal would be to go back to stock Android with the latest official Froyo build.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an application which resides on the phone memory but downloads large data to the SD card on first launch (the app needs to be able to work without an internet connection most of the time) When using the recommend directory given in Froyo it seems all files on the SD card are deleted when I install a newer version of the .apk. I'd preferably like the files removed on uninstall, but not on upgrade since the files on the SD card aren't going to change between application versions, and forcing the user to re-download a large file that is independent of the application version does not seem reasonable. At the moment it seems I'm forced to use a different directory to the recommended one in order to stop Froyo deleting all the files when the application is upgraded. Am I doing something wrong, or is this how it is supposed to work (I'm guessing it is)?

Does that mean I can upgrade to nexbeast 1.0 from BB 0.9? How is this different from installing a new rom? I have also never tried to upgrade from one build to the next, how would i go about doing this?

I have ever owned a smart phone and this is the first time I am flashing a new ROM onto said smart phone. I am not looking for anything special or edited, just simply an OEM ROM of 2.2. or retail I guess if that exists. I want an unedited Froyo ROM on my phone, that updates and everything and works as if the phone came with it. Is this possible? In that guide it seems like the person named "ryan" that commented that the ROM isn't the "official build" and that made me a little nervous. I am assuming that everything that I am suggesting and asking for is legal and such, as I recall all of the android ROMs being open source (I think).
I installed Froyo earlier today manually. I am trying to see where this speed increase is because right now,as it has been all day,my phone lags,it takes forever for my icons on my home screen to come up when I exit an application,and I don't notice the browser being faster.it seems less responsive to touch(not like that with 2.1)and it has locked up a couple of times. What is going on?I thought froyo should make it run smoother?and I have done a couple of battery pulls already.

Just like many of you probably are, I am in need of more storage. 14 GB is evaporating fast, and I'm not sure the SD card is upgradable yet. I don't fully understand exactly what an SD card does besides provide storage (ie: does it function as a hard drive, etc). Basically, how are those who are upgrading their SD cards doing so without having to reload all your apps, re-buying apps you paid for, and having to otherwise completely set up your Droid all over again from scratch?
