The call to System.currentTimeMillis() returns always 0 on Motorola Droid, Android 2.0.
There is no mentioning in changes to System in the API differences between 2.0 and 1.5, so either it was missed somehow or this is a Droid dependency.Does anyone know how to get the currentTimeMillis in a way that satisfies Android 1.5, Android 2.0, and all hardware? Best regards!

is there a way to use the System.currentTimeMillis(); to have convery that number into a basic output HH:MM in droid? I am using the sample code:
Toast.makeText(this,
String.valueOf(System.currentTimeMillis()),
Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
That outputs the current time in MS since the epoch. There has got to be a better way to do this rather than convert that large number and display the current time right?
I have struggled with overclocking performance and battery life. I use my phone for more than Linpack & Quadrant.I have noticed that when I have a higher clock speed of let's say 1.1GHZ and I compensate for battery life by using an on demand setting at 0.4/1.1 my droid runs a little hesitant at times when starting programs. Some times it takes up to 10 seconds for a program to load.If a have a performance setting at 550/800 everything runs much more reliable and the overall speed and battery life is very good. guess what I am saying is that high benchmarks don't always mean good overall performance.
View 26 Replies View RelatedI am testing my multiplayer game by running several instances of the emulator (which is, sadly, extremely slow and dis-satisfying). I depend on a little trick using currentTimeMillis() to keep a synchronized clock between the players (but NOT the absolute value of currentTimeMillis() since no two phones are probably set exactly the same)Anyway, I *do* naively assume that two emulators, running on the same PC would return near identical values for calls to currentTimeMillis(), and what I find is that they start off the same, but pull rapidly apart.Which makes me think the underlying implementation of currentTimeMillis() in the emulator is not at all based on the host PC's calendar, and rquires the emulator to get enough Windows compute cycles to be anything close to accurate. (and one emulator is always running at a lower priority to the other, depending on which one is on top)
If this is just an artifact of the emulator, then I can deal with it, but if it implies I have a fundamental misunderstanding of currentTimeMillis(), then that would be something i need to deal with. Part two of the question is: any way I can speed up the emulator? When I run two, are they sharing one of my cores? Can I split them onto separate cores?
I recently rooted my droid and then unrooted for the froyo OTA update. I found a file with took me back to stock recovery. this file wont let me apply the update.zip because it is android recovery 2e. Does anyone know where I can get android recovery 3e?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got my droid x about 2 days ago, and I've gone through about 2 full cycles. So far I haven't been able to squeeze more than 6 hrs of use on it, so I installed spare parts to see if the GPS bug was affecting it.
Going through some usage information, I found that the "Android System" sensor usage was huge! Since 1hr 29min unplugged the Sensor has been on for 1hr 36min...weird.
Checking the total time since boot the sensor has been on 19 hrs. I have autobrightness turned off and I haven't come across any other posts that explain what uses the sensor.
There are a bunch of threads out there talking about battery usage and how to figure out what's draining your battery.
Almost all of them say to go get Spare Parts app from the market and check you "partial wake usage".
I did that and 95% of my partial wake usage is from "Android System".
Is that normal? Anyone who is getting good battery life (20+ hours) - what do you see in the partial wake usage?

I am running GDE in the background (not my default home screen).
I just checked the system updates for giggles but it is saying that check for update was not available at this time. Try again later.Anyone else seeing this? I am just worried that it might be because I am rooted.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI changed the default Droid Sans font with Helvetica Neue (which looks gorgeous by the way) and rebooted, worked perfectly. I then decided to change the bold version as well, rebooted, but now I'm stuck at the red Droid eye loading screen over and over again (not the Motorola logo). It just loads for a couple seconds then flashes then repeats. I'm 100% sure I didn't misspell anything and I still have the backups of the fonts in the system folder but how can I now boot into the phone without factory resetting it?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just noticed a couple days ago that some of my sounds aren't working on my Droid X. Ringtones, alarms, notifications work. Audible touch tones, audible selection, keyboard typing and some other sounds in games are not working. Also, when rebooting the "droid" sound isn't playing (not sure if that was taken out with froyo.) About a week ago these sounds were all working so I know it wasn't the update that killed them. And yes I've looked and made sure that all the checks were selected for these sounds.

The last rom i used was apex and i was able to use the terminal to push it but the terminals on the app market wont do it. Do i need to change permissions so it will show up in my app drawer?

Something leads me to believe it's not possible/easy to do because I haven't seen too much of this but if it is possible, a link to a tutorial would be much appreciated. After about a third of the way into it an "!" icon appeared and the phone instantly rebooted. Upon reboot i got a message saying System update failed!I'm running 2.1 rooted - but all bloatware etc i've kept. Also running LP. Do i need to unroot before updating? I haven't read anything that says I need to.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been messing around with metamorph, and thank the members here for pointing me in the right direction to find the themes I am currently running the I.C.E. theme by tdawg. Everything applied correctly on top of Sholes 2.0.5, without messing up any performance tweaks. Only thing that did NOT apply(no surprise) is the font in the screenshots. I'd like to have this font- it is the same in the Droidinator theme and a few others I have seen screenshots of. So my question is.. where to I find this font, and how do I apply it(Hopefully through a terminal emulator since that is all I have set up so far)?

View 19 Replies View RelatedSo I was going to update to Froyo manually when I noticed that my 'check for system updates' is disabled in the about phone menu. I can only think of two reasons:
1. I'm rooted (doesn't seem likely)
2. I'm roaming but still on 3g (This would be annoying as I have to drive 20 miles to verizon towers)Any ideas? On a separate note maybe this is an advantage.I'm new to the Android platform and have heard of issues upgrading to 2.2. Maybe I should just wait until Moto puts out the patch?

Some seem to think in 2.1 Android's memory management is somehow messing with services that Pandora needs to run. Would installing it as a system app help in any way? I am running Cyanogen 5.0.5.7 if it matters at all.

Taking up more system memory then sense UI. Is there any way to stop them so they don't just start back up again, I'm using launcher pro but the Moto home keeps running in the background and it comes back even after force closes through task managers.
