Android :: So Whats Your Experience With Handcent SMS?

Dec 14, 2009

I have tried using handcent sms for quite sometime now without the cons out weighing pros. So far I have noticed that it tends to drain more battery, some messages are not recieved/sent, and recently today it deleted my entire library of text messages. I am not complaining abot the app at all. I just want to know if my issues are unique or if anyone else has witnessed these issues on their phone. Let me know if I am just an idiot, or if my phone is acting up, or you guys have also had these issues. I hate to get rid of handcent because I like how I can change the color of the notification LED but its not worth having if it means deleting all my text.

Sep 14, 2010

I dont get it, what am i missing that the masses seem to know? I see it allows you to change the colors and puts them in little bubbles.how cute, but they actually reduce the number of viewable messages on the screen. It is this customization feature that people like most? How else is it better than the stock messaging app?

Mar 24, 2010

So what's the point of blacklisting numbers with handcent if you can still freely read them in the stock messaging?? Like if I didn't notice it first... holy crap... so is there anyway to fix this? Cause not everyone is dumb and won't think about looking under the app called messaging.

Android :: Experience Device Vs Skinned?

Mar 22, 2010

I currently have a BB Tour and wanting to upgrade to android. I'm trying to decide if it would be best to get a google experience phone like the nexus one or get a skinned android device (Sense/Blur/ect...). The main thing i'm worried about is app compatability and secondary OS upgrades. Does skinning the device make it any less compatible for apps so you might have strange quirks with your phone? Also i would think if you bought a google experience device the OS upgrades would always come faster (or even if the come at all with a skinned device). I would especially think if you bought a google experience device like the nexus one then the upgrades would almost be immediate. I definitely think the companies that skin android (HTC/Motorola/Ect) have definitely made android look better and maybe a bit more functional but i'm concerned about the issues above with the app compatability being ther MOST important.

Android : Advice For A Free Lance Programmer With Limited Experience?

Sep 15, 2010

I have one year of experience in programming. After getting laid off in cuts I managed to get a job in telecommunications planning. I'm good at my new job and don't want to leave it but I miss programming. I'd like to be able to code in my free time (which is about 4 hours every evening 7 days a week.)

I can code pretty well in C#, reasonably well in SQL and poorly in a unix shell.

What sort of job should I get on the side? Would anyone hire me as a free lancer? Should I focus on making apps for phones (android) instead?

Android :: Client/Server Conversion Error - Ruining Desire Experience

Jun 5, 2010

I've had a Desire for two weeks now. I was in love with the phone... until this problem came up.

I use Outlook and Microsoft Exchange -- and had read all about how Android synced easily. And it did at first. Then, 10 days ago, the calendar stopped syncing. I got a "Client/Server conversion error," and no sync. The problem only effected my calendar -- mail and contacts were synced just fine. After reading a few forums, I did a "Remove account," re-installed the account. It worked fine again. No big deal.

Then it happened again today. I did the Remove/re-install thing again, and again it was cured. Until six hours later.

Is anyone else having this problem with their calendar/exchange sync? Any solution guesses?

Without being able to sync my phone to Outlook, the Desire I love so much is somewhere between frustrating and infuriating.

HTC Aria :: What's Durability Experience?

Oct 19, 2010

I (think) that I am going to purchase the HTC Aria but have gotten cold feet reading about the screens breaking. Can anyone comment on the screen durability with a case attached or a skin applied to the Aria. I'm hoping that if I purchase the phone and get a good case, or "skin" it, the glass would have a lot less chance of breaking if I drop it, which I surely will do.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Need Rom Experience / Comments

May 11, 2010

I finally made the jump. Rooted today, after much study, and seems to have gone well. Backed up, and ready to go with a ROM, ROM manager installed. So, after untold hours of reading and digging, I cannot come up with a ROM that I can pin down as a good, solid starting point -- or better yet, one I might stick with for a while at least. They are so many. Did much reading on the earlier Fresh RO, but keep gravitating back to the newer ones like Cyanogen, Bugles Beast, etc. But I cannot find any comprehensive talk about these Roms -- it is just scattered and piecemeal. So thought I would ask those who have actually downloaded and flashed these ROM as to their opinion. I use my phone for the basic services. I need solid phone, MSM, Market access and installation, etc. I do not need blazing speed -- much rather stability and function. Where to begin? What say folks?

HTC Incredible :: Defective / Experience A Zap / Numbness Down Arm

Jun 11, 2010

I have a HTC Incredible that I bought from Verizon Wireless. When holding the phone I experience a zap/numbness down the arm. I had three other people hold my phone and they all experienced the same problem. I tried reporting the problem to Verizon 9 times to help me get a temporary phone while the Incredible is on back order. However, they come back to me saying to either continue using the phone or you must get another phone and hold on to it for two years. I emailed the CEO and finally got a call back from executive relations. Now they keep calling me demanding to have the phone back.

HTC EVO 4G : Anyone Experience Bad Lag With Keyboard Switching To Landscape?

Jun 6, 2010

I'm not sure if it's normal, but for the built-in messaging app, it takes literally about 9-12 seconds to switch to landscape keyboard when tilted.

Similarly, with eBuddy, the messaging app, it tends to take 5-7 seconds. Is it just me or is that really slow? I don't expect it to be instantaneous, but taking more than 3 seconds or so seems a bit much. Anyone else having issues?

Sprint HTC Hero :: My Pre-Kitchen And Fresh 1.1 Experience.

Jan 24, 2010

In a word, this combo is *awesome*. Very easy to install once I figured out the .NET issue with my windows pc (just needed to update the .NET stuff, @ windowsupdate.com, pretty easy), and very easy to use, though it sure would be nice if the "Kitchen Tutorial" section of geekforme.com was completed. I'm a clicker and tweaker by nature and I knew I couldn't screw up too badly (just flash it back to stock and start over if things turn sour) so away I went. There really is no need to fear with this (pre) Kitchen set up.The auto-root was FAST and very easy. Pulling unwanted applications and pushing files to the device, also simple. Even swapping the theme and lock screen was pretty easy. A good, solid tutorial on the site (which I understand is in progress) would have helped, but there are good people in this and other forums who are happy to help if one gets stuck.

I had rooted my phone previously and removed many stock applications, so I did not notice as large of a performance jump that most do coming from a stock device, but it seems a bit snappier, post Fresh.I have noticed that my battery seems to be draining quicker post Fresh. I charged fully before bed, placed the phone in Airplane Mode and set it on the table. When I woke up this morning, the device had dropped to 50% in 6-7 hours of no use. I don't recall seeing any threads talking about speedy drain post root/fresh, so I'm looking into it. There are no apps installed that I didn't have on the phone before I noticed faster battery drain, save for those installed with Fresh.I'd say it was due to me playing with it more, but I was sleeping... Unless I'm fiddling with it in my sleep... The phone shows an up time of 8hr 27min with an awake percentage of 81%. It seems I've missed something that's keeping the phone awake. Suggestions?

Motorola Droid X :: Generic Chargers - Using Experience

Oct 18, 2010

Does anyone have any experience using generic, non-Verizon-sold chargers with their X?

I know the original Droid would get fussy with many aftermarket/generic chargers; that's the only reason I ask this.

The chargers Verizon sells are an absolute scam. I buy all my cables from monoprice.com and I was planning on buying 10 3' and 3 6' USB cables from them for charging my X (3' are currently on sale for $0.48 a piece!). I noticed that Monoprice also sells a few generic wall chargers but a few people mentioned issues with the Droid, so I'm a bit leery about ordering them with the intent of using them for the X.

Has Motorola been kind and decided to let us charge our X's off of any USB source of power, or are we locked in to Verizon-sold overpriced nonsense?

Motorola Droid :: Had Handcent / Switched To ChompSMS / Back To Handcent

Jan 22, 2010

when the stock Messaging app wasn't cutting it, I installed Handcent. But it started flaking out on me, so I dumped it and went to the more-reliable chompSMS.I liked it a lot.But to be completely honest, I missed some of the features of Handcent. But reliability is Job 1, so I kept chompSMS for a few weeks. Then I heard that Handcent received a major update a few days ago, so I replaced chompSMS with Handcent. So far so good. I got all the features back, and I haven't had one single issue in days of texting. So if you're like me and you left Handcent for chompSMS, you may want to give the new version a spin.

HTC Droid Eris :: Need To Aid Phone In More Swift / Userfriendly Experience?

Dec 25, 2009

I would like to start by saying that I am new to the android genre (I bought my eris 4 weeks ago) but I am not new to the smartphone industry. I have owned multiple blackberrys, which eventually led to the decision of buying the eris. Coming from blackberry I am used to "maintaining" my phone, i.e. closing apps, clearing caches. I make it a point to consistently use Advanced Task Killer on my device which was recommended to me by the VZW sales rep upon purchasing my phone. However, after the most recent OTA update I have started to experience significant lag and "soft resets." I recognize that the eris has an out of date processor, and it is foolish to expect that any phone will operate without some type of annoyance. With this being said, my phone lags to the point of user frustration. My best example of this occurred today, Dec 25. I was purging my SMS inbox from all the merry Christmas texts, and my phone consistently spent 3-5 seconds between the delete text screen, and returning to the inbox. I deleted 15 texts, and in this time the phone also managed to return to the HTC startup screen twice. In a given day I experience this soft reset upwards of 10-15 times, a major inconvenience for any type of phone user. Lastly, after receiving the update my phone has froze multiple times on the lock screen. It tends to happen when I recieve a text/e-mail, press the end button to unlock the screen and the phone freezes at the unlock screen. It is unresponsive to any button combinations, and any attempts to swipe the screen in all directions. So with my previously mentioned problems, I am coming here for advice.
A.) What can I do, aside from ATK, to aid my phone in a more swift and userfriendly experience?
B.) Could it be possible to have a "lemon"?

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 : Experience With Task Killers

Oct 28, 2010

I wanted to ask everyone what their experience is with task killers, because alot of people say their battery lasts longer with one but others say it does not make a difference. Can everyone post what task killer they use, and what difference it makes on their phone, or state that you do not use one, and why.
I used Advanced Task Killer Pro and when people were saying they were not needed, I uninstalled it, after 2 weeks I have noticed that my battery does not last as long as it did when I had the task killer installed, so I will be re-installing it.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini/pro :: Experience / Opinion - Positive And Negative Points

Oct 24, 2010

The X10 mini is a very cute phone, but also a very strange one!
I own the phone since July, and I would like to share my opinion about it with you!

Negative Points:
1) Bluetooth is not functional. Totally wrong!
2) I can't charge it when is turned off! It always turns on automatically!
3) The alarm is ringing every time it likes! if you snooze it continues ringing every 10 minutes! If you deactivate it with slide bar, then it is not ringing again next morning! You have to set it up again!
4) 5megapixel camera without zoom? it is unacceptable!
5) I can't organize my files into visible folders! All my photos, my videos or my music are presented altogether. Although I have made folders in the Videos and into Album application, the phone is still showing the files altogether! I have downloaded some applications about it (ASTRO, FileExplorer, AndExplprer) but they seem to be useless!

Positive Points:
1) Very good screen. Very good touch procedure. (I would like to have the zoom function of the i-phone)
2) Very good colors
3) Very good video player!
4) Cute!
5) Small!
6) Beautiful!
