Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 : Experience With Task Killers

Oct 28, 2010

I wanted to ask everyone what their experience is with task killers, because alot of people say their battery lasts longer with one but others say it does not make a difference. Can everyone post what task killer they use, and what difference it makes on their phone, or state that you do not use one, and why.
I used Advanced Task Killer Pro and when people were saying they were not needed, I uninstalled it, after 2 weeks I have noticed that my battery does not last as long as it did when I had the task killer installed, so I will be re-installing it.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini/pro :: Experience / Opinion - Positive And Negative Points

Oct 24, 2010

The X10 mini is a very cute phone, but also a very strange one!
I own the phone since July, and I would like to share my opinion about it with you!

Negative Points:
1) Bluetooth is not functional. Totally wrong!
2) I can't charge it when is turned off! It always turns on automatically!
3) The alarm is ringing every time it likes! if you snooze it continues ringing every 10 minutes! If you deactivate it with slide bar, then it is not ringing again next morning! You have to set it up again!
4) 5megapixel camera without zoom? it is unacceptable!
5) I can't organize my files into visible folders! All my photos, my videos or my music are presented altogether. Although I have made folders in the Videos and into Album application, the phone is still showing the files altogether! I have downloaded some applications about it (ASTRO, FileExplorer, AndExplprer) but they seem to be useless!

Positive Points:
1) Very good screen. Very good touch procedure. (I would like to have the zoom function of the i-phone)
2) Very good colors
3) Very good video player!
4) Cute!
5) Small!
6) Beautiful!

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 :: Task Bar Gone Into Hidden Mode

Jul 23, 2010

I notice the task bar goes into the hidden mode. I will see it and then it will goes up and disappear. Like in auto hide in window if you will. I look through all settings and I don't see any where you can remotely set it. The only way to get around to it is to power off and on the phone.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 :: Task Killer Opinion

Sep 9, 2010

There is a link around here that I read up on stating that Task Killers are not recommended.I was using one for a while and it seemed alright.Albeit, via the Task Killer I realized that all the proprietary software from carriers were trying to run, ie Moxier Mail etc.

I have since uninstalled my Task Killer, but know that there are these useless programs running does bother me somewhat.

Android :: Hiding An App From Task Killers?

Jan 12, 2010

I have an app on my daughters phone that will not allow her to text and drive. The problem is she can use any task killer and kill the app and bypass the application. So my question is, is there a way to hide an app from the task killers, or have the app check to see if it is running, and if not restart its self?

Android :: Task Killers Truly Not Needed?

May 10, 2010

I've read around alot about people saying task killers aren't needed because Android is Linux based (not windows) and can handle all the apps in the background so theres not need for a task killer. My question is arent there apps or services that take up alot of memory and shouldn't be constantly running (without you knowing that is) For example there are apps that constantly update (recieve data) like Mail or twitter or Anti-virus (which constantly is on the guard for new apps or settings being changed). I also noticed that after taking pictures with my phone camera it said the camera was running when i already closed it. i checked running services under the settings and the camera was taking 74% of my usage (i did refresh many times to make sure it was running). I've came to the conclusion that task killer is good for a few apps that are constantly running in the background but not as much for apps that don't constantly run in the background (like games, after you close them)

HTC EVO 4G : Task Killers / Special Calls

Jul 25, 2010

I understand the concept behind not needing to use them when it comes to ram usage; if a program isn't active its ram can be released so it can be used by other applications.however, how does the android OS deal with cpu use by applications not active? this is the only reason i would think apps should be killed; there's nothing preventing them from using up cpu cycles while in the background.do they need to make special api calls to use cycles if not active?

I've been reading a lot about the task killer and AV apps here, but I am wondering if

1 - are TK apps really nessessary? Does it help with battery life and why would you want to kill an app? I've read somewhere that TK apps are not nesscessary b/c android is a linux system.

2 - Can we get viruses on our phones? Are the Free AV apps we get here in Canada, since we cannot buy apps, good? Do they really protect our phones?

Android :: Want Task Killers That Work With Froyo

Aug 24, 2010

I get that some of you are strongly convinced that task killers are of the devil. But the simple fact is this. When I got my Evo I was told to download ATK by the rep at Sprint. I put the widget on my home screen and used it like a dope fiend. And maybe I was self medicating, but my battery life sucked, and using it made my battery life suck less. Then, along came froyo, ATK stopped working, I read all the forums and got rid of ATK. Now my battery is worse than its ever been. I want to be able to look my apps and have them remain dead until I say so because its MY phone. That being said are there ANY task killers that work with froyo?

I've read enough to understand that task killing under froyo is not necessary to save the battery. However, I do not like the way applications tend to open in the exact same place that I "closed" them. More often than not, when i open an app, i would much rather start with the "home" page. This is especially true with the calendar and the web browser. Is there any app out there that can help with this?

HTC EVO 4G : Android Multitasking / Related To Task Killers

Jun 28, 2010

I just read this article:

Android Developers Blog: Multitasking the Android Way

and it talks about how Android itself handles multitasking. The problem I'm running into is this: I stopped using Advanced Task Killer because people are saying that it's not healthy for your device, which makes sense to me as it seems like you're using CTRL ALT DELETE to close a program every time, and that just doesn't seem like a good idea.I understand that this isn't windows and it works completely different, but I still stopped using it because it seemed a bit harsh. After reading the above article I realize that this is how Android itself closes apps, by "brutally killing them" as the article says.If this is how Android itself closes apps when it needs more memory, why are task killers not a good idea?
If somebody could dumb it down for me so I can understand I'd appreciate it, as I'm a total Android n00b.

HTC Incredible :: Battery Worse - Lack Of Task Killers

Sep 2, 2010

My battery has never been worse since upgrading to Froyo. I don't use an auto task killer but I did use SystemPanel to manually close applications once in awhile. Now that I can't kill tasks easily, I just let everything run to see how it would turn out. I'm not saying the battery life is horrible, but it is noticeably worse now. I realize users experience will vary based on how many applications they have installed and running. I have not installed any new applications since Froyo.

Samsung Moment :: Stopped Using Task Killers / Managers

Nov 22, 2009

There's a thread similar to this on one of the Hero forums. I tried to stop using the task managers on the hero, but I noticed a quite a bit of lag once stuff kept building up. On the Moment, I was running into several issues with apps, and I figured it was due to the task manager (i use advance task manager). So to test my theory I stopped using the task manager and the device works as it should. What i found was that even with a lot of usage, this device does not slow down. Not sure if it's the lack of the sense ui (i'm using open home), the fast processor, both or what but this phone can handle everything I'm throwing at it.My advice, stop using whatever task killer you're using. One less thing to worry about makes for a better phone experience.

What is worse that not everybody contacts me by email bug gives bad rating even if my application is not working incorrectly. I made remedy: wrote it to documentation (http://android.hubalek.net), wrote it to application main screen and wrote it do application description but people either don't know what exactly task killers do and how they work or just don't read doc.I think that Google should prohibit all task killers as they are malicious and are breaking other apps.

Sprint HTC Hero : Task Killers / The Legend Continues

Jul 17, 2010

When i first got my hero i was told to install a taskiller.I found this annoying and bothersome and my phone had several issues such as force closing and awake time. Then i read somewhere online that Android "is a smart os" and you don't need a task killer. So I uninstalled.Everything got better. My phone will lag or slow down here and there, but i think that's more the insufficient hardware of the hero.Usually I just wait a second and it's fine.Or press the home key.But here's the thing.I bought my wife an Intercept, and two best buy mobile employees told me to install a task killer - that this is how you "manage" android.Honestly, if this were true.Which I don't believe it is.I would not like the Android OS.But then a Sprint employee told me to also install a task killer.Only HTC has confirmed my earlier understanding that they're not necessary. So I've heard mixed things. In my own limited experience, it's not necessary. But i still see articles and forum posts talking about using them.So what is it? Are task killers a nagging and persistent myth.Or is there any real net benefit from using them? Or is it that they were more useful to version 1.5?

So I did some modding (unfortunately) to the framework-res.apk file and it worked the first time and a few other times but then I changed something and now when I turn on the phone it freezes at the "Sony Ericsson" screen before the logo. What do I do?

I tried pushing the backup framework file but it says "failed to copy framework-res.apk to /sdcard/framework-res.apk: Permission denied

However, when I use adb devices, it does show my device as being attached.

So what can I do now?

I was also able to pull files...

Also tried manually putting the framework-res.apk in the sdcard and then using adb to copy it to the framework folder. Doesnt work. Saids that the directory cannot be open for read. I guess the device cant read the SD card until it boots up.

I didn't fancy typing them all into the phone, so thought I would use the Sony Ericsson sync and put them into the pc first via the PC Companion sync application, and set up the sync to transfer them into my phone. I have tried a test run adding only a couple of addresses to my contacts on the pc, and adding one to my phone, but when I do a sync, the addresses don't transfer either way. I know that the actual sync is working because I added photos too and they transfer....... I must be doing something wrong that is easily rectified?
