I've seen this topic with other Android phones, but I'm still not sure if changing a memory card in the Desire is really as easy as it should be. eg. copy the stock card content to a folder on my PC, move all that to the new card, mount it to the phone and done? Apps, settings, etc unchanged? Anyone out there been through this?

I'm not sure if it's normal, but for the built-in messaging app, it takes literally about 9-12 seconds to switch to landscape keyboard when tilted.
Similarly, with eBuddy, the messaging app, it tends to take 5-7 seconds. Is it just me or is that really slow? I don't expect it to be instantaneous, but taking more than 3 seconds or so seems a bit much. Anyone else having issues?
I currently have a yahoo email address and have setup my email fine on my desire. I sync my contacts and calendar items in Outlook via HTC and all is working fine.My question is.. since its a google device, would i have a better "experience" if i set the gmail email address as my primary address? is there anything special that you can do with a gmail address on the desire that you cna't do without one?

I use Outlook and Microsoft Exchange -- and had read all about how Android synced easily. And it did at first. Then, 10 days ago, the calendar stopped syncing. I got a "Client/Server conversion error," and no sync. The problem only effected my calendar -- mail and contacts were synced just fine. After reading a few forums, I did a "Remove account," re-installed the account. It worked fine again. No big deal.
Then it happened again today. I did the Remove/re-install thing again, and again it was cured. Until six hours later.
Is anyone else having this problem with their calendar/exchange sync? Any solution guesses?
Without being able to sync my phone to Outlook, the Desire I love so much is somewhere between frustrating and infuriating.
can't get my class 6 working. put all files from my class 2 onto my desktop then all those files onto my class 6. not showing that my apps are one my phone now. using apps2sd if that matters. maybe thats the problem? didn't partition my class 6
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an LG Optimus L5 II (LG-E450B) running stock Android 4.1.2 (non-rooted) Kernel Version 3.4.0. My carrier is Virgin Mobile (Canada). I recently realized that the stock 2GB of internal memory is not nearly enough for me, so I went out and bought a 16GB Sandisk microSD card. I put music on it, set photos to autosave on it, etc. which all worked great. However, I have been unable to get some apps to move over correctly.
I realize that some apps can't really get moved (at least without rooting, etc). The app I am specifically trying to work with is iBird pro. It's App Info appears as such:
Total: 641 MB
App: 12.68 MB
USB storage app: 628 MB
Data: 4.00 KB
SD Card: 0.00B
The "Move to SD Card" option is available, but when I do it all that it does is drop the App to 3.51MB and up the USB storage app to 637MB. All of which stays on the internal memory. Obviously it is only moving 9MB or so of App to the virtual SD internal memory (which I believe is what shows up in my files manager as /storage /sdcard0, so it doesn't actually move it to the SD card (though a few other apps have sucessfully been moved).
I have tried using App2SD, but it says that the program is not supported by my device (and the iBird Pro shows up as "Phone Only" anyway).
I have tried the ADB hack trick set-install-location 2 and reinstalled the app and still nothing, it just saved on the internal memory.
Finally, when I open the app, it also downloads another ~600MB of database data (bird songs, pictures, etc), which also saves on the internal memory. Or at least tries to but the memory gets full and it stops the download.
How to read a specific file from sd card. I have pushed the file in sd card through DDMS and I am trying to read it though this way but this give me exception. Can anybody tell me how to point exactly on that file? My code is this.

AFAIK accessing thumbnails for images via MediaStore.Images.Thumbnails would generate thumbnails at first attempt, and that's what i need to perform against specific location on sd card.
The question is how to make valid URI to content under specific folder?
All answers i can find use just MediaStore.Images.Thumbnails.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI as uri to make managedQuery. And result of it is Cursor that points to all sdcard images, while none examples can be found on how to access only specific folder.
I would like to import my contacts from a disabled sim card (which is possible on older models, W800 to be exact). But, the phone does not switch on. Also, is there no way of checking SIM contacts without importing them?

Looked at the original 2 gb card and has lots of folders. Question is: do I have to copy and paste the old folders to the new card or will the phone automatically set up new folders? Phone's relatively new so I don't care about the existing photos and whatnot and do I create specific folders myself i.e. mp3, pics, etc.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe way I do it is a full backup with my backup pro, wipe the phone completely, wipe the a2sd partition, clear the dalvik etc., load new ROM and then proceed to re install everything from backup but my god what a fudge about. Is it really necessary to wipe everytime? I see people talking about changing ROMs often so do you really go through this every time or am I just being over cautious?

The QWERTY keyboard is too difficult to use while on the move, so I like to use the keypad (mobile set up) when sending text messages. The rest of the time I find the keyboard easier to use but it is a pain to switch between the 2. Is there anyway of setting different defaults, or an easier way of switching between the 2?

I'm using 3G watchdog and i've noticed over last few days my quota for received data is alot higher than it has been in previous month... my question is does anyone know of an app than can show me which apps on my phone are transmitting / downloading the most data, like a breakdown of data per app?
My phone was all ok until i tried to change to a new sd card..when i changed to a new sd card and tried to switch on my phone, my phone stop on the htc logo and went blank and will not switch on! and when i switched back the previous sd card, the same thing happened and the phone will not switch on.

Thus far, I have hard reset 3 times and also tried powering on and off the device a few times. I also tried to Force Close it, use Task Killer and stop the service, but none of these have worked. 1. Is there any way of getting the home screen to show what network you are currently connected to?
2. I live in Northern Ireland and have a 3uk phone but work near the border between the republic of ireland and northern ireland. All other phones that I have had allowed me to have a 3uk network connection within my workplace, but now with this phone it will not come off 3Irl and sometimes transfers into O2 Irl, which will cost me a lot if I answer. On 3Irl I can receive calls and messages free but it cost to send out.
I noticed my phone has a tendency to drop calls when switching from HSDPA to 3G. My phone dropped calls about 5 times today, so I thought I'd do a little test... I rang someone (display showing 3G) then refreshed my GoogleMail app (display went to H) to see if the call stayed connected... well... it dropped the call. I did the exact same thing again... dropped the call. I tried this about 5 or 6 times using different apps to basically put my phone in HSDPA mode and it is dropping the call when switching between 3G and HSDPA...

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm new here, hope I can post this here Does anyone know if you can set a specific time for the reminder for a specific event, i.e 9:12am, I couldn't find the feature and it really annoys me as in my 8 year old nokia I could set a specific time for the reminder to go off at for the calendar event. In the desire you can only set 5,10min..1,2,3,12,24hrs.. etc, but I need the reminder to go off i.e. 4 hours before the scheduled event or at 9:12. Any app suggestions? I've got the phone for like a day so maybe the feature is there but don't think so.

I have had androids for over two years now and am getting more and more concerned every time I download an app and seeing that it wants to READ my SMS message and Contacts.
Is there a way I can disable reading of SMS messages or any one of the other permissions by specific apps, or all apps?
Are we living in a world where any "joe schmo" can upload an app the to the app store and wait for those inadvertent downloads and collect all your personal information, and that's after all the time we spend protecting our identity and personal details?
